I have both, I use the kirby shampooer every spring on our NON stained carpet to keep the carpet nice and clean. I use the steam cleaner for spills and stains that WILL happen through the year. They both have their place in my home.

My late grandfather used to have both the Kirby and the Hoover SteamVac. I agree that Kirby are great vacuum cleaners, I never used it as a carpet shampooer and I also find it as very complicated to turn it into w carpet shampooer. Our old Hoover SteamVac on the other hand, I actually love it a lot better because I like seeing the dirt being extracted out of the carpet. My father has the SteamVac and it still works to this day.

Just shampooed my carpet with the Kirby today. The carpet is around 44 years old (haven't gotten around to replacing it) and turned out really well. The dirt is deposited into the tray, plus, I only have one machine to store. The Kirby set up probably doesn't take any more time than prepping the SteamVac.

As much as i love the Kirby it really is more of a carpet refresher then a deep carpet shampooer, though if you have minimal stains and use a pretreat it will work fine for you as the vacuum is so powerful it takes care of most dirt and dust just dry vacuuming That being said if you have alot of stains be prepared to pretreat or just get a water extraction shampooer

Thank You Its about time people see the difference between a Shampooer and an extractor! Also these shampooing systems leave soap in the carpet and it attracts more dirt and oil!

I personally love my Kirby for shampooing carpets. But you have to use the pretreatment for stains, it's just like your laundry, you don't throw a stained shirt into the washer expecting your detergent to get the whole job done, you have to use a pretreatment. The Kirby makes my carpets feel softer and smell better, the system doesn't start smelling gross because of nasty water like Bissells since it all comes apart and is easy to clean. You have to understand your system and it's purpose before you buy it and use it. But that's just my opinion. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What pretreatment do you use?
@heatherfields4869
@heatherfields4869 3 жыл бұрын
@@aprilalonzo6158 Kirby has their own pretreatment you can buy, I usually just buy all the extra supplies through Amazon for my kirby.. Sometimes the stain needs a little scrubbing by hand after letting the pretreatment soak though, just depends on the stain. Its also helpful to not have the expectation that all stains are removable, because there are some that won't come out no matter what you use.

Good test, but I'd never use the Kirby shampooer for stains anyway, that's not exactly what it's for. That system is basically an enhancement to deep carpet cleaning of dust and dirt. For stain fighting, you need full liquid and extraction like the SteamVac.

@@Kubulek17 most people , I'd guess, don't buy carpet cleaners...some do, but many pay to have their carpets cleaned every once in a while , but many also just rent a cleaner when they do it every couple of years. the kirby is an outstanding vacuum and extremely versatile, but its not a serious carpet cleaner for stains. I think some people like a all in one machine that saves space compared to multiple machines too.

As an ex kirby salesman who was in thousands of homes, I can attest that I've never seen a red clay stain! Grape juice, mustard and marinara sauce were also never on my radar, but I'm sure I saw a small stain occasionally. Most stains are due to oils and greases that trap dirt. Kirby is the king. Also, forget using an extractor if the carpets are heavily soiled because you need a kirby to get the dirt out or you're making mud!

I am not a curvy salesman however I can attest to the mud in the carpet. I have been using a Curby for the past 16 years and I’ve never had any issues removing deep stains using the current solution. Here however is the caveat to that although the shampoo solution is very good I recently applied it to my carpet using a different carpet cleaner and the results were far superior than using the Curby shampoo attachment.

Pretreating is a necessary part of the process. It is 90% of the cleaning, in fact. The foam is only a soil suspension agent, that's all. It's not intended to remove stains. This is really key. Professional nano chemistry will make all the difference. You can't compare apples to oranges like this. That being said the Kirby system is a cumbersome clunky way to do dry foam extraction. Professionals use rotary brush machines followed by professional vacuum post vac.

I can see where the comments are coming from but no one ever mentions the stench of trapped water. The amount of passes used and lack of suction means water gets trapped in the underlay. Within 1 day you have an embarrassing stench. Ask me how I know. I’ve also owned many extraction systems...

Use a "steam cleaner" and expect resoil. It gets your pad wet. Therefore allowing the stain on the pad to bleed back through because the machine cannot dry the pad.

this is a derivative from an industry standard test, but looking at Carpet-rug.org, Kirby’s performance for soil removal with dry foam was rated gold, meanwhile rug doctor earned platinum. No idea how they perform the test, but I guess their test method delivers shocking results sometimes. I think the Hoover steamvac was ranked lower than rug doctor, but in another test, it seemed to be that rug doctor wasn’t too much worth the hype. I’d say go slower with the Kirby for this test, but then you’d have to go slower as well with the Hoover to ensure fairness.

Yeah its difficult to get perfect results. I did call Kirby several times on the best practices for carpet cleaning and tried to follow their instructions.
@johnerikson7094
@johnerikson7094 5 жыл бұрын
Vacuum Wars in fairness though, when compared to other methods/machines for dry foam cleaning, Kirby is likely the best since it uses a brush roll and not spinning scrub brushes (think Hoover but with 2 brushes and much larger) like those found on commercial grade scrubbers like those from koblenz (and also the resedential-grade one from Aerus) allowing for better agitation. I’d go on about all the small(er) advantages Kirby has over others, but they don’t really relate to cleaning performance.
@VacuumWars
@VacuumWars 5 жыл бұрын
@@johnerikson7094 I tend to disagree, I think the consensus among carpet cleaning experts is that the main advantage for the Dry Foam method is its fast drying time, but it is know not to be a good deep cleaner for stains ect. www.angieslist.com/articles/4-carpet-cleaning-methods-pros-and-cons.htm
@johnerikson7094
@johnerikson7094 5 жыл бұрын
Vacuum Wars true, though, again, when Kirby’s dry foam system is compared to other dry foam systems, there tends to be an advantage over the others due to the style of brush used. As for stains, you’re not wrong. I’ve experienced different amounts of success when dealing with non-pretreated stains and dry foam shampooing. Sometimes the stains disappear virtually, sometimes they don’t. If it’s a light stain it typically disappears. If it’s a heavier/deeper stain, then it will disappear partly. I’d like to say that it depends on what kind of stain it is and or the type of carpet, but it’s hard to judge since I’ve really only tackled untreated stains on a kitchen rug.
