During the madness of the used car market from 2020-2022 I flipped several vehicles. One of them was a 2014 Ghibli SQ4 that I had for about 6 months. It was a fully loaded one owner Texas car with 28k miles on it. The only issue I had was cosmetic. The leather on the upper dash had come up in a couple of places. It was taken care of through Carvana's warranty to the tune of nearly $10k, and I had to wait a month for the replacement to be made and shipped over from Italy. The car sounded amazing but was too heavy to be agile. Maintenance costs on the F160 engine are pretty ridiculous and the interior, even with the extended leather package, was just ok. I put about 6k miles on it and traded it in for the same price I paid for it. It checked a box on my automotive bucket list to own something Italian, but it wasn't all that special apart from the engine and the badge.

Once a car has overheated and spat out a lot of coolant, the gauge WILL often read normal, or even cold, because the sensor is surrounded by air instead of liquid and it'll be cooled by the air flowing through the radiator.
@shaunportlock492411 ай бұрын
Then it goes up again...... head gone.
@Ksoism11 ай бұрын
@@shaunportlock4924, yep, you heat the engine, and then that water decides to start running for some reason, it'll unevenly cool the engine. From experience, engine can get pretty toasty and survive if there is coolant all around. When you have practically dry engine, water enters it or a bit of it evaporates from the depths of the water channels, it raises the pressure (evaporated water is something like 1000 times the displacement of the liquid) which gets cooling system running a bit again, water shoots in and then you get warped heads and all the good stuff. Actually, in those cases it might be better to not have water at all, but I guess it's all down to luck at some point.

@ralphinator210 ай бұрын
Where do you get this fairy tale? The sensor will be the same temperature as the hot engine part that it is attached to.
@SiCrewe10 ай бұрын
@@ralphinator2 Think about it. The radiator is attached to the engine by rubber hoses filled (in the absence of coolant) with air. How, exactly, is the heat of the engine supposed to get to the radiator? Through the rubber hoses and air? The temperature sensor is usually in the radiator - NOT in the engine - so all it reads is the temperature of the air inside the radiator, which is being cooled by ambiant air blowing through the radiator as the car moves. To say that's a "fairy tale" is to admit you've never actually been in a car with a burst radiator or examined an engine with a ruptured head gasket that's pissing boiling water while the radiator hoses are stone cold. Beats me why some people become aggressive when confronted with something they don't understand.

I bought this car used (a 2014) and its no less reliable that any other European marque. In fact its been MORE reliable than two Audi's Ive had in the past. The engine is designed by Maserati and built by Ferrari, so its made to push the limits. And with that, regular maintenance is expensive and necessary (an oil change costs $500 at the dealer lol). You either buy a car like this if you have the money for upkeep or you know you can service it yourself. Oil quality in these cars is very important and Maserati's recommended 12,000 mi change intervals are too long in my opinion. I change mine myself every 6000 mi. My guess is an oiling problem caused by negligence (i.e. wrong oil used or extended change interval) caused the engine to overheat. BTW my car smells like clean leather and the faint whiff of Burberry Hero 😛

That V6 is a downstroked & boosted Pentastar spruced up by Ferrari. The one in the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the good one (flat crank goodness) derived from the Ferrari California V8.
@chynacash313811 ай бұрын
I was wondering where the engine in these came from - Makes sense that they're just based off the ubiquitous Pentastar V6 considering how much else about this car is shared with generic Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep models - The 3.6L and 3.2L Pentastar's aren't terribly unreliable from what I've read though so I don't see how these would be all that much different aside from the added complexity of twin turbochargers I guess.
@kurtjammer956810 ай бұрын
It's a totally different casting .based on the pentastar..with ferrari heads..better crank..rods..thicker cylinder walls.sharing most components from the f154...so to say it's a pentastar is a lie..

A friend who has several cars bought a Quattroporte here in San Antonio Texas. About 2 ½ years later the leather on the dashboard began lifting. The dealer said they’d address it on the next service. My cousin's wife pushed him into buying a new Maserati Bi-Turbo for $34,000. They game me a ride home. Before leaving they put on their Italian driving gloves and driving shoes. After 1 year--most of it in the shop--they traded it in on a Jaguar XJ6. The Jaguar dealer gave them $9,000. People who lease a car, almost never change the oil, or do any maintenance. I worked at a dealership, many years ago, and the car's that came in were in bad shape. I know someone who leased a vehicle, never even checked the oil, and at 53,000 miles, the tires were bald, the motor had lower end noise, the dipstick wasn't even registering, and was sludged up. People now, still abuse these vehicle's, and do zero maintenance, and i would never buy a previously leased vehicle for this reason. Many of these leased vehicle's are auctioned off because they are so bad, at least that's what a guy i know who sells car's tells me. You know it's bad if a person gets free oil changes when leasing a vehicle, but just don't have the time, or just don't care, because they are turning it in to just trash the next one. G-d bless.

This is when I rely on Carfax to show me the service history, I don’t take the word of the seller that routine service was done by the owner. Also that’s why I take my vehicle into the dealer for routine services that way it is properly documented on Carfax so when I sell it I get top dollar.

Seems to be a good deal to lease a car in the US, in europe you have to pay (at least where I am) for everything that is not considered normal wear and they are picky at the return inspection, some have payed equal to 10.000$ for having kids scratching the interior and some minor scratches in the paint. Even the tires need to have about 50% left at the return otherwise they will charge for new tires as well. Severely overdue service I dont know what happens but it wont be cheap. My turbo charged LS1 had a cooling issue. Kept bubbling out the over flow tank after turning the car off. Found the problem going down the quarter mile. Combustion was working like an oxy torch from the inside of the cylinder. Hit the water jacket, filled the cooling system with 160psi, and blew the radiator apart. Good times. Needed a new block and heads.
