This is a very cool channel, and I've not been viewing it lately. Some of the oldest tribesmen and women, to include Ethnic European one's, have hundreds of years of tool and weapon exchange, livestock exchange, and agricultural and medicinal exchange intercontinentally. Periods of extended peace highlight that. Hope the best for you and for the people of the regions where you spend most of your time. Your channel is informative, and it's cool to see individuals doing what, as a child, I was only able to view on outdoor channels and Saturday and Sunday morning ESPN networks. You seem respectful of the places and people, and it's fun to watch! Wish that I could donate!

Good to see another video - I subscribed to Jake's channel. Interesting to see hedgehogs there are invasive and a pest - a shame as I don't see enough of them here in the UK - but good to see that NZ takes reduction/prevention of invasive pests seriously.
@PetegNZ9 ай бұрын
It's not just the fact that they're an invasive pest. New Zealand split away from other land masses very early on and we didn't have any mammalian predators - so we ended up with a lot of very weird bird species that had literally no idea what a predator looked like, other than other bird species filling that predator role. Many of them became ground dwellers, and more than a few gave up flying. And many of them respond to something unusual by making a lot of noise and thus attracting attention. So when people arrived and bought predators (rats initially, and then mustelids, possums etc) many of a beautiful and very unique birds were wiped out. If we want to keep the ones that still exist, we really have no option but to take pest control very seriously.

Odd, NZ allows suppressors and night vision hunting, but here in the US my state of California has made both of those things illegal. Crazy!
@DomingoDeSantaClara10 ай бұрын
Guns in NZ are almost exclusively owned for hunting purposes, there's a big problem with invasive species so it's important they have access to the right tools for the job. Gun ownership in the US is very different.

@richardmeyer41810 ай бұрын
I see that nobody has answered you, but Jake put the same videos up on his channel and I asked there and Jake was kind enough to answer - the rifle is a Chinese Norinco JW15 - basically a clone of the old Brno Model 1. I didn't ask about the thermal. Cheers.

They were hollowpoints. We used solids to shoot steel earlier in the day, but hollowpoints for hunting.

@farhorizons390110 ай бұрын
Introduced from the UK. They eat almost anything including the eggs and young of our ground-nesting native birds.

The at one stock is garbage. It's way too heavy to be a viable carrying sized stock, and its hard edges make it uncomfortable, as well as the quality mine was it wasn't unletted very well at all. The corrosion resistance on the metal pieces sucked. Rusted in months. I was just very unimpressed.
