But it's impossible to land both feet totally simultaneously. One foot will always land first, so you can call every 2nd jump stop a travel. So I'd say Rondo had a travel, but Lance and Lebron were closer to a jump stop.

And very faulty reasoning by the refs. Just because new players are creative enough to do a new move they dont recognize they make up a new rule to not allow it. Regardless what rondo did was take his 2 steps after gathering the ball. Suddenly we have a new very specific rule to not allow what he did?

luo XW Ok. I need a second opinion on the video where Hakeem Olajuwon is teaching Kobe Bryant post moves. In one of the moves, he does a power dribble and hops into a fade away and steps into it first with the same foot he hops with. Still confused on whether its a travel. Any opinions are much appreciated.
@maxwelljose2241

+Dallas Gainey on a pro hop, the first just isn't actually a step because you pick the ball up as it's bouncing, so then you jump, and whether you land on both feet or a little staggered, you still didn't exceed two steps. My friends always make that mistake and call a travel. The only way it would be a travel is if you somehow grabbed the ball while both feet were in the air, then landed, then made your first jump and landed staggered, which is way to close to call anyway.

the example they have given is a travel violation because they have done this yugo step incorrectly. I saw some of this from nba but they have not called it travel because they did it correctly.. You will do this by dribbling the ball on either left or right ex. right then grab the ball in the air then drop your pivot right foot then lift your pivot foot and shoot the ball. that means its only 2 step.. the video above was a travel because they acquire 3 steps..

the video above shows, example Lebron james, He gather the ball when his right foot touches the floor meaning it is consider one step then he hop and landed his right foot again so that is 2 step then before he releases the ball he take extra step which is his left foot. now that is his third step..

Everyone thinks when you have a pivot foot you can only jump straight up off two legs but you can step through with one leg and raise your pivot foot it just can't hit the ground before you pass or shoot! The only time it's a travel is if you try to dribble! Please NBA make a vid showing this and helping all the ppl that can't read the rules

Worst segment ever... or at least the worst title. Nobody EVER mentioned a jump stop. It would have been nice for you to explain it. For those that don't know... a jump stop involves the same sort of hop, but you land on both feet at the same time instead of just one foot and it is legal. Also, stop saying that when they "GATHER" it has anything to do with a travel! Every time someone takes the ball to the basket, they "gather" and explode through. "Gathering", whatever that is, is not an indicator of traveling.

People listen. Stop with the it was only two steps after the dribble end stuff. We get that but that’s not the rule that was broken. They made it illegal to take your first step with the foot that you land on because it’s technically your pivot foot and your pivot foot can’t come back to the ground without a dribble(that’s my guess for their thinking on it but I can’t find an explanation). So it’s kinda like an up-down. You did violate the number of steps it’s about that pivot foot. I think it should be legal because in my mind it’s different. But it’s literally illegal because they decided it is. Just how traveling is illegal because they decided it is.

Very stupid rule, there are plenty of situations where landing on same foot feels very organic and is by far the best basketball move. Been playing for 25 years and agreed with most if not all of the rule changes are good but this one is just stupid and useless.

In all those examples its a travel regardless because they have 3 steps with the ball gathered. So this video is just confusing players and how traveling would occur. Whats worse is that they dont even include how to do a proper jump stop, that is landing on both feet at the same time after gathering on that pivot foot... which is legal.

Not a third step when you put your foot down. Basically a pivot foot.
@johnsurs22
@johnsurs22 8 жыл бұрын
neoknux009 It should be a travel based on stricter rules, because the player is technically lifting his pivot foot after the hop. However, there are several exceptions made in the NBA rule book along the lines of "two steps before the shot." Traditionally, the two steps before a shot was really just setting your pivot foot and moving your non-pivot foot in succession really quickly. But the game is no longer called this way.

The problem in this video is the Host, Greenberg, Scott, Borgia. They show in a video a hop that acquire a 3 step literally. All there example are acquiring 3 step that is travelling.. The very basic of basketball specially on our topic "travelling" is do not step more than 2.. The example of their hop step is illegal since the player control the ball while their foot is on the floor example, LJ he hold the ball or control the ball when his right foot on the floor therefore that right foot will be his pivot foot but he hop that right foot which is his pivot foot meaning he lift his pivot foot and not yet shoot the ball instead he take extra step with his left foot before the lay up.. so how many step, yes its 3 step.. aside from that he lifted his pivot foot which is the right foot and not releasing the ball and return his pivot foot on the floor.. Ive seen nba player doing hop step but the ref didnt call it travel.. aside from that NBA rule has no clarification on Hop Step.. But NBA has a rule that not more than 2 step should be acquired before shooting the ball or pass it. How to do Hop step..? gather the ball or control the ball while your both feet in the air, not literally jumping. when we are running there are times that both feet is not touching the ground when the other foot is landing and the other foot is pushing to run.. Right? then gather the ball in the air then the first foot touches the floor is your pivot foot then lift your pivot foot then shoot.. example.. you are dribbling on the left arm then hop step on your right foot then gather the ball, Then your right foot touches the floor first since that foot is the one you used when you hop therefore that would be your pivot foot and that is your 1st step then 2nd step is your left foot and after that lift your pivot foot and shoot or pass.. That is counted.. if you return your pivot foot on the ground without releasing the ball therefore that is your third step and its travel.. Hope this will help.. you can watch videos on nba that doing some hop step but not called for a travel because they do it correctly.. That is my reference and my instinct is my reference. Just do this and count your step.. Travel is simple make 3 step

Hopping is already an innovation in itself. To be safe if you really want to employ that move to your arsenal, just try your best to land on both feet. Another thing, it's a pump fake in itself and faking after that move is also overkill. Much like the dude that got called for 5 second violation despite pivoting back and forth to fake opponents.
