I think the proliferation of retro AR's and lever action rifles is just a natural response to people being burned out on the copy+paste tactical freefloat AR-15's we have had for so long. People just want something different now, and once the consumer market for these guns is met the popularity will die back down again. But the fact that PSA is bringing old designs like the Department of Energy 9mm AR to market is very cool and they will become collector pieces in my estimation since the originals basically don't exist anymore, at least for the common man.

Tactical tube magazine/classical design lever actions make no sense (short of quality of life upgrades like better or easier mounting of optics and lights). Now magazine fed tactical lever actions...they're Welrods on steroids. No gas issues from shooting suppressed, you control the cycle noise, and you can shoot fairly fast if required. You can also make shots pretty far out on modern sub-sonic chamberings due to their high bc bullets and rotational inertia. So a proper rifle setup helps you take advantage of braced/supported shots.
@irregularrex40048 ай бұрын
@@UnderBakedOverEngineeredIn a scout or recon roll a tube feed lever gun isn't a bad choice. Not the worst option honestly.

@@ljfitz Taking account how many options market already have for CC guns and both CZ and Beretta are least most part european manufacturers. So CC is not their market area in europe where most of their products are meant for competion. Just personal though but i think they dont see it worth while to invest too much for CC guns which are already more than saturated by cheaper manufacturers in states. Specially when people tend to whine why this is so expensive. I can get that and that for one third of price. So there you have it in nutshell.

@@Kesssuli this is very true, really I'd be happy if they just started optics cuts from the factory for the sp01 and p01. They probably offer it for le in Europe but I think they have a deal with CGW in the US.
@Kesssuli8 ай бұрын
@@ljfitz Unfortunately im sure both guns you mentioned have been discontinued a while. First steel frame gun what they offer with factory ready optics cut is shadow 2 OR and second shadow 2 compact. Then we have p-10 series which have model with cut. But not even their most expensive competion line have those from factory. So it is up to local machinist to make those if you dont want to use plate for rear sight. So we have exacly same shit in europe. In all honestly i dont understand why they are so stingy to offer their guns with factory ready cuts. Even though it is already kind of standard for everyone else. Even Beretta have understood that fact.

Marlin dropped off the radar for a couple years and are just getting back to production. I think the other makers are rushing in to fill the void. Lever actions _with tube magazines_ DO work better with rimmed cartridges, simply because of how the dual cartridge stops work to control feed from the tube magazine. It is _possible_ to chamber rimless cartridges in tube magazine lever guns, such as the .35 Remington, but they have had issues with reliability (cue all the Marlin 336 owners to say "I've shot my 336 20 rounds per year for decades with no problems!") That's why VERY FEW rimless cartridges have _ever_ been chambered in tube feed lever guns. None of that applies to _box magazine_ lever guns such as the Winchester Models 1895 and Model 88, Savage Model 99, Browning BLR, or the Henry Long Ranger which can work well with rimmed or rimless cases.

5.7 is the most useless meme trend of 23 and 24 🤣 Caliber is terrible but everyone ran out of ideas so resurrecting old calibers that never took off and old guns is the trend. Cough 10mm cough cough you too buddy. It's the same as movies, no one has an original thought in their head anymore so they just regurgitate old hits.
@stevem47838 ай бұрын
Love the "10mm offers you .357 power!" dudes. No, it doesn't, and frankly it's stupid in a carry weapon as you can fire more quickly and accurately in a comparably-sized pistol with 9mm. Speed and accuracy far trump any minor ballistic difference especially against human targets. Not talking about bears here. And past that you can actually afford to train with 9mm.

My useless opinions: Any Beretta 92 I can get with a frame safety instead of a slide safety is good in my books. May be too big to conceal but for home use, target use and comp use its one of the most pleasing pistols to shoot imo. As for the lever guns. I like the classic styled lever guns, I prefer wood or laminate stocks and blued steel not stainless. Like mentioned before there is largely no point in MLOK rails when you aren't going to put anything on it other than a light at most. I certainly don't like the skeletal stocks either, unless it could fold or something. But I do think lever guns do need some modernization, we need some inexpensive lever guns that come with pic rail on top for optics and there needs to be a detatchable mag fed lever gun that doesn't suck. The Henry did seem appealing as it took AR mags so as long as it runs well that offers a lot to have larger capacities and shorter barrels and cartridges that would not work as well in a tube. I like the rail on top, and a detatchable magazine, everyone is stuck with longer barrel lengths in order to gain capacity, but past 16 inch its largely useless in .357. Maybe if Ruger could bring back the 96 but in 9mm, .45 ACP, 10mm etc with a magazine that holds a decent amount that would be good. Yes I get it, why bother when you can get a PCC, but there are a lot of countries that can't have semi autos, so a detachable mag fed lever gun is the next best thing. The main issue with these is price. Currently there is no point. We need inexpensive lever guns of good quality and so far everything is more expensive than mid tier ARs. The DD PCC looks kinda cool being a smaller frame with that skorp mag, but I feel like any PCC over 1200 or so should probably have some sort of better recoil mitigation system. For the price of that one you can get a lot better.

well they aren't really killing it because they have more quality control issues than ever because of massive employee turnover in their production line. They have horrible retention and the working conditions there right now are pretty shitty. So their quality control has gone off a cliff the last year and half, I think it was when they started going crazy with the new releases like the premium saber lines, the JAKL, the Krink, and a few other guns. They're spreading themselves too thin and now we are suffering for it. They didn't even get my barrel + handguard on my rifle straight. Both of them are crooked and tilted off axis

And Bond Arms and FIghtlite are making lever action AR-15 lowers. Edit: Also Henry has had the box fed lever guns for a while but they took proprietary mags but people in the comments are saying they have a new one that takes stanag mags. I dunno, I like the idea of them simply because it sounds like it would be fun to shoot. Just like a bolt action would be fun to shoot, I'm not sure it's entirely practical.
