Dear Jeri. Watching your videos is like taking a wonderful spa for all of the senses. You have picked a theme, roses, and turned it into someting magical. Planting roses in Autumn, setting a beautiful rose themed table, rose tea, books, and showed us all the possibilities roses can be in our lives in other ways. Your calm voice, your careful investigation of your themes, the sharing of "love" in the things you love yourself, is such a rich and miraculous gift to us viewers. I also enjoy your mini series - Emporium - a lot, and I rewatch many of your themed tea videos, particularly the Jane Austin, Beatrix Potter, Tasha Tudor and so on, ones. I also love to see all the lovely interiour of your home, for it is just my "cup of tea" ... when I stayed in the USA (1991 until 1995) I fell in love with American Country, antiques, quilts and so on, but when residing in the States, I also use to buy the Victoria magazine, which made me fall in love with all things English as well. @@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow You are so welcome. Yes, I embrace the german x-mas ornaments as well and traditional german style country living. I have an old kitchen stove, dating back from before WWII, a lot of old furniture and dishes as well. The old house was also filled with treasures when I bought it. There is still some of it in the attic I have not unpacked, old farm utensils as well, from the 40s and so on. We have an antique market twice a year where I live. It is a small town built next to a monastary. The market takes place on the meadow next to it. It is very beautiful there. We even have an anual open air theatrical week, (when there is no pandemic), with performances such as Hamlet, musicals and band concerts. The whole area is situated at a big lake surrounded by forest as well. There are some magical paths surrounding the forest. We even have a fairy tale path with dragons carved in trees and huge wooden mushrooms, magic wells and mirrors and a pedagogical learning path for children to study trees, and the forest in general. Every year we have a small enchanting Christams market around the monastary with wooden boths and lots of venders, selling their handcrafted wares. I participated twice in it with my textile crafts. I wish I could beam you over to take you there some day. You would love it very much. Huggs, Christina

A lovely yellow floribunda, Sunsprite, does beautifully in quite a bit of shade. She has. Hybrid tea type flowers and a glorious fragrance. Very black spot resistant and very vigerous

A couple of years ago, My Darling and I put a Tiny Bee Garden across the road from our place, in a small Park . We used some donated blocks as edging around a small Lavender plant that had come through a fence next to the Kindergarten . We planted a small Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley around it. We live IN the woods so do not get much light , so apart from a tiny strip along either side of our driveway , it is so lovely to have fresh Herbs and Flowers for us as well as the Bees. One year we noticed a very small Rose baby coming up in a crack in the pathway, so my Darling gently eased it out and popped it next to the Rosemary ....it loved it and they have grown up together , and they are as tall as I am . Just the other day I noticed the first of the buds, then we went over to have another look. The scent of the very small flowers hit us before we noticed the first blooms tucked in the back ...so lovely .I have collected Rosehips too for teas ...So enjoying Spring down here in New Zealand ...thanks for sharing Your Delightful home and Garden xx

I LOVE Roses!! Without a doubt my favourite flower. I learnt a trick from a horticulturist some time ago. Take a cutting of a soft shoot from the rose, get an old potato, poke a hole in the potato and slice the bottom so it stands. Take the cutting, remove leaves, buds and flowers, slit the bottom of cutting and stick it in the potato. Put the potato in some water, when roots start growing plant into a pot. This all should be kept in a warm place, I keep mine in my bathroom as it's always warm. The potato feeds the rose and acts as a root booster without using those nasty hormone powders. I'm currently doing this with camellias and so far so good😊

I love roses. We added 3 new knock outs this past spring-... I rooted a knock out one year and planted it in a pot kept it there for a year then p!anted it on the side of the house and it grew beautifully and big...looks so good. The smell of roses is breath taking. My favorite.

I love Roses, I so far have four David Austin Roses, Boscobel, Silas Marner, Compassion and sceptred Isle there are three more that I would love, Crimson Glory, Lady Emma Hamilton and Munster wood but have to wait until they are back in stock. I love roses and have grown them for years. The extreme cold (-20 to -35°C) is my biggest challenge here in Eastern Ontario. I have several Rosa Rugosa shrubs that I have started from seed. In southern Ontario my favorite was my New Dawn climbing rose. It would put on blooms in June and keep going until snow fell. Another beautiful video Jeri, thank you. Take care my friend - Marcie 🌹

Oh Jeri i needed this escape today perfect timing. I had to bury my cat this morning she got hit out on the road and i had a stressful night at work so this video was very nice! Those roses are going to be beautiful against your house. I have several roses, one of my favorites its one i have by my front walk. It is a yellow rose, the blooms start out yellow then fade to a white, but its the most fragrant rose ive ever smelled. You could be in the back yard and smell it lol I wish i could remember the name of it! I planted two new roses this spring from David Austin, they are the Bathsheba Climbing rose. I planted those along my white picket fence as a back drop then i have Purple salvia and purple and white Veronica in front of them im pretty happy with them they are still giving me blooms. I also have 2 other David Austins pink and peach they were my grandmas roses so they are sentimental. Do you prune yours now or wait till spring? Thanks for the vid! 😍🌹🌿

I am so sorry about kitty. If you remember the name of the yellow rose, let me know. Your planting arrangement sounds perfect and the Bathsheba is divine... I don't have it yet. I did prune my roses way down in Sept. but some experts say to wait till the rose is dormant and then cut it back by about 1/3rd using cuts at a 45 degree angle.

My favorite rose is Mr. Lincoln by Jackson & Perkins. My healthiest rose is Lady Banksia (yellow) and a pink Carolina heirloom rose. I would rather have hydrangeas. A friend gave me blue hydrangeas. I am thinking of cutting a leather leaf Mahonia and planting hydrangeas there. I have mostly althea and crepe myrtles. I have 70 buckets of winter sowing that may die this winter. The plants are really bigger than any kind of dome could cover. Today I decoupaged your basket cutout print I bought on a canvas. I have so many frames and this didn't fit any, and I don't have the money to frame it at any store. I am going to have a bit of a spot under the couple basket weaving. I am going to paint "2 in 2 out" since I had a nonprofit for the Buddy System for 10 years. I think it makes sense for 2 people weaving to say 2 in 2 out. My husband and I may not weave. We do use the Buddy System and we are getting older! I wish you had a glove "store" so more people could also wear those beautiful goves!

I am a Rose fanatic- very very in love with David Austin roses. They’re weak. I had in my last garden 63 different varieties- You said it Jeri- Right plant- right place. I am unable to grow lavender. Oh - I buy it every year. After a month - it is dead as a door nail. In containers, in the ground, in raised beds. - no matter . I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ANTIQUE ROSE EMPORIUM- They used to be here in Georgia.

When I moved here a few years ago I thought would roses grow here in this hard dry soil? Well yes they do. They love it here and are so beautiful. I have pinks and reds. The only two I could think of their names is my garden are the Tiffany rose which is a soft pink and the Seven Sisters which is a deep pink. At one time I had 96 Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Climbers, Florabundas, and Old English Roses from David Austin. I moved and transplanted the roses but I moved far into the country and the deer loved them as much as I did. I have maybe 5 or 6 left.

I grew up with rose gardens that my father had. So I naturally grew to love them as he did. Well, I have roses too and can't get enough of them. Just this year I grew for the first time Miniature roses and thought well they wouldn't get too big. To my surprise, after I fertilized them for the second time they grew three feet, lol. I didn't know that they could get that large and they are full of roses. As you said, they love to be fed, watered with a lot of sun.

You will love Alchemyst Rose….I’ve had mine for about 17 years now & it’s my favorite climber! The colors and petal fall are delightful! Eden is a another very pretty climber if you love old fashioned cabbages.💕☺️

Jeri, I enjoyed this video as I have 18 rose bushes around my house and four of the bushes are miniature roses. As you said, roses are easy to grow and to care for. When in doubt, I either plant roses or lavender. The wonderful thing about roses is I can enjoy them long after the season as I will dry them naturally or in silica. The larger dried blooms are all gathered and set in an old wooden wine box from France. It's always a treat to see your beautiful gardens. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Jeri, I absolutely love this! I've fallen in love with roses and planted many in the past few years. Like you, I added a number of pot roses this fall. I'm excited to see how yours do. Abraham Darby is my favorite rose, glorious scent, but it has trouble with black spot. That's my main challenge with some of them. I'm so glad you are featuring more roses. I'm zone 6 so have mine in.

I love a shrub rose Carefree Wonder. The pink buds dry perfectly for potpourri and are very fragrant. I highly recommend it. Very disease resistant.

I love all flowers, especially the English Country Gardens .7. I live in southern Ky and the high humidity necositates frequent and thorough spraying for black spot.

I had to remove my Lady Banks rose as it was on an arbor over the gate to the back yard. It grew so large and so fast I couldn't keep up with it. It is known as a barn eater! LOL I think a corner that needs to be filled with this extra large cascading arching rose better suits me. I can just let it grow and do it's thing. I swear I could stand and watch the inches grow on that Lady Banks! Not much on the thorns but that growth rate! WOW! 😝 I do love my roses! Especially the climbers and ramblers. I've got a Generous Gardener and a New Dawn on the arbor now.

It's a good thing I have a very long fence! The lady banks I purchased were in small quart pots, I will measure the growth. Generous Gardener looks good to me... on my wishlist.

Roses are tough here in zone 4/5 ; I often lose them over the winter. I have tried David Austin's many times without success and those cabbage roses are my favorites. My best luck is with shrub type , but the blooms don't have much of a vase life. Love all your celluloid dresser boxes strewn with roses. They are also a favorite of mine. Looking forward to seeing your roses in bloom.

Mister Linclon, Sally Holmes, and Iceberg do well in shade, but only Mr L has much scent, they are also healthy and vigorous, and they tolerate my terrible clay

I love the David Austin climbing Iceburg, but their site says it requires full sun; maybe a different Iceburg? There are several roses with that name.

Thank you for this wonderful video!! I am totally obsessed with 1. roses, and 2. fragrant plants. Yes, obsessed, I can't stop. I have almost 100 varieties and keep buying. I've already purchased maybe 30 more that will come in the spring. Hopefully I can stop then and just learn to propagate from the ones I have that are especially successful. My hope is to have so many fragrant plants in my yard that I can sit in my garden and smell the fragrance in the air. Other plants I'm trying are lilacs, gardenias, honeysuckle, jasmine, lavender, nicotiana, lots of herbs, daffodils, and many more. I also love rose perfumes. My favorite is Chloe, but I also love Paris, and Joy, Miss Dior Rose, and several others which are primarily the scent of roses. I haven't tried the Penhaligon one though. Maybe I'll suggest it to hubby for an early Christmas gift! Oh, other rose sellers worth checking out for bare root roses are Edmunds Roses, Jung Seed, and Jackson & Perkins; I've gotten great roses at nice prices from them. New ones to me are Regan Nursery, and Bay Laurel Nursery, though I won't get my orders from them until next spring. Bay Laurel was the only place I've found which has Ives Piaget rose available for sale, a rose I've been coveting. I will say, David Austen Roses USA is my favorite; they have such great service and the best warranty service, a 5 year warranty. Heirloom is the most expensive I've found too, but they have great product, a great variety to choose from and great service too. Some things are worth paying extra for. And of course I love Antique Rose Emporium, which has antique "own root roses" you can't find anywhere else. Again, thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed this!! I've already watched it twice, so far. :)

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Hopefully, it will be glorious someday. Right now we're in the establishment phase, so it's very much a work in progress. I did enjoy many roses this year though and more are coming! I lost my sense of smell for a full year, June 2003-June 2004, following an upper respiratory infection in 2003. Actually, it wasn't gone, it was distorted in a very bad way (look up "Parosmia" and "Phantosmia" sometime, I had both), which is almost worse than no ability to smell at all (Aka: Anosmia). Imagine absolutely everything smelling like a combination of car fumes, sulfur, burning trash and rotting meat, that's sort of what I endured for a whole year. The stench was horrible! Even my beloved flowers and favorite foods all smelled the same and it was all very bad. But thankfully my olfactory nerves regenerated and my normal sense of smell returned. For some people it's permanent. Since then fragrance has been vitally important to me, with food smells and florals being the most desired. I hope to create some walkways too where I brush the plants as I walk through. I think I would love that. Thank you for your response!! I know you put in so much work into doing these videos, but I hope you realize too how much of a blessing they are to all of us out here.

@@DLynne222 That sounds awful! It's no wonder you appreciate scent so much after going through such a dreadful experience. My husband has a quote "It doesn't matter how beautiful the flower is, if it stinks, you don't want it in the house". Of course, he is speaking allegorically. Nearly everything I order must have a fragrance. I love the spicy scents best. But I also love the moss roses just because of the foliage and interesting buds.

Do you have Pileated Woodpeckers where you live by chance? I thought I heard one at the beginning. Anyway, love this video. You can never have too many roses, but my husband doesn’t agree unfortunately. I’ve started a lot of old ones from cuttings. I’ve found the climbers work best where I live because the deer can’t get them and they don’t seem to be interested as much in them. Your garden is really charming. Thank you for sharing. 🥀

Another spectacular video!! So well thought out and presented. If you are going to make another rose video to discuss shade roses can you also include how to move roses in the garden? How to prune them? I have some roses that are not performing well so I know I need to move them, I didn't realize you could. Not sure how. Some of my roses do very well however, some years they get these green caterpillars all over them and destroy all the foliage. This past summer I had Japanese Beatles destroy my Double Delight Rose even though I put up the trap bag for these nuisance insects. This is one of my favourite roses, so fragrant. My growing zone is 5b however, I have been living here all my life and if it's not rated for zone 4 or lower, it will not return after our harsh winters. Merry Christmas!
