@@Niemand1947 the modern hairstyles of the characters of colour, their chinos and Eighth air force leather jackets, the fact that apart from the red Tails P51 pilots, the airforce was segregated, I don't think any multi crew aircraft were flown by persons of colour, and the general inaccuracies in the German uniforms, mountain troop cap edelweiss on infantry, etc. I accept this is a modern drama, but it would be nice if it reflected history , do you think? It's like King Arthur in Ray Bans.
@normanharbinson54872 жыл бұрын
Well on the surface Mathew is correct. It's a movie don't get me going on a list movies with the same and bigger mistakes fury comes to mind . But the Tuskegee airman had the following squadrons not just the 99th the 100th, 301,and yes 302nd. And ready for this the 477th bomb group oops yes a bomb group. But did not see action as war ended. They were fighter pilots and opening a shot up convoy guess they were in the convoy. One airman was captured after he was shot down. The germanscwere part of a kampfgruppe. So it's a mix. Also men thrown together in a confused area. Mountain units were in this sector. Also at this point men were put in any uniform they could find handed a gun and sent into battle. Even ones off wounded and dead. All this can not be explained in a movie as it's boring. Most of the Germans were reenactors from several units wearing 100 percent reproduction or original uniform parts or gear. Before you comment on growing standards on German read regs as we did. Americans yes but in field wasn't look at too much. Thank you
@rsitarsi48042 жыл бұрын
@@normanharbinson5487good points, well made. I was interested to find out about the putative bomber unit, that didn't serve until after WW2. I particularly liked your "Fury" reference, and the reference to ad hoc German units. With thanks, RS

I have never made a film, short or long, and for that I can only guess how much work, planning, coordination, and funding that it must require. Between obtaining and properly using all of the camera equipment, lighting, sound, hiring actors, obtaining costumes (especially when it's supposed to be from 80 years ago), editing, all of that, it must be a monumental effort. I can definitely recognize all of that and I commend the producers of this short film for it. With that said though, I really am left scratching my head when it comes to the accuracy of the military-specific stuff that i'm seeing. I can't help but think there wasn't much, if any, research or consultation done when it came to WW2-era military tactics, equipment, etc. In the first 20 seconds of the film, a German soldier is seemingly troubleshooting a radio. He's seen turning, what I assume to be, the frequency tuning knob basically from the entire range both directions. The frequencies for each net would be very specific and every communications soldier would know them so it looks very silly to see this. A couple minutes later two German soldiers are seen leaving on an ATV, which is hilariously inaccurate. I'm assuming the American POWs are Tuskegee Airmen? The bomber jackets are pointing me in that direction. Their uniform isn't accurate, as pilots combat uniforms consisted of olive drab jumpsuits. The German soldier firing at the fighter plane that was strafing their patrol with his small arms SMG is hilarious and certainly wouldn't have been done with him standing in the open, if it would have been done at all. Typically, infantry on the ground could hear a fighter before the pilot could be close enough to see them on the ground, especially in concealment of a forested area. Upon hearing an enemy aircraft they would have hit the deck and gotten into concealment if possible. No one is dumb enough to try and take an aircraft out with his 9mm Mp40. The POW looked like he had never fired a weapon in his life, or been told how to do so, when he recovered the mp40 and fired on the germans. I also enjoyed how the two germans decided to run away for some reason instead of firing back at the POW. Some very unaggressive soldiers. Especially after seeing how inept the attacker looked with his weapon... Just comes off to me like the history and subject matter was given no respect. It really gave the film an amateur-ish feel to it and distracted me from what was supposed to be a serious film, when it was just comical to me due to such lack of attention to detail.
@normanharbinson54872 жыл бұрын
First off the "atv" is a for real documented 1939 R75 war trophy motorcycle with authentic plates. So is the MG 34 on it. 2nd you are correct on the radio but he's looking for public radio the music as atenticated by a wwii German radio operator. The tan uniforms were often worn in med as flight suites were too hot authenticated by a 98 year old Tuskegee airman. Documented general Patton in fact jumped out a window shooting hand guns at aircraft documented at his home in Massachusetts by his grand daughter so why not a German doing almost same in heat of combat. Last us pilots were not trained on German weapons he never saw one but quickly figured it out. If I threw a German weapon down you had never seen could you figure it out. There were six us military vets in the film. And two wwii history professionals on set German and american.thank you very much.
