@mrgreggles99810 жыл бұрын
I'm only commenting because that was so much better than most big-budget stuff. Critiques that came to mind: The guys were already executed so why intervene, which was not part of the mission; running in open ground in direct sunlight? Some of the shooting towards the end was "Hollowoodishly accurate" (quick, standing burst hits at 300m), most of the shooting seemed quite realistic though; the knife throw just seemed to easy (too accurate & effective, especially for an underhand throw?) - can the elite really pull that off consistently? Did all the bad guys happen to die just as the mortar was taken out? The banter was great - it felt natural and real, like a real team would interact and the overall feel of the film & cinematography was really nice. You could really develop this. I hardly ever comment on vids. Please remember that the only reason I'm doing so here is because this really was good!
@EmptyCanFilms10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the critiques and the view! Those are very welcomed here. I'm Glad you enjoyed the film. Here are a few answers to some of your questions: 1) The reason the LT had his team intervened, despite the fact that the civilians were already killed was definitely a poor decision on his part, and almost got his team killed in the process. It was purely out of emotion and rage. We were originally going to continue the story on in several parts, having this be one of several questionable decisions the LT would make throughout their mission, making his team slowly lose confidence in his command, and build character tension. Unfortunately we didn't have the time, Money, actors, or locations to continue with the project. 2) As far as the movement in sunlight and open ground, you are right, this is not realistic. This was mostly done to capture better looking shots and/or the sun wasn't cooperating in the short time we had to film :) 3) As far as the enemies all being wiped out after the mortar team was killed, you can hear over the Sniper's radio before the knife kill that the LT shouts "All Targets are down! Now take out that mortar team!" So yes in hindsight this did seem a little too convenient as you watch it through and I wish I would have had the battles end more fluidly. Thanks again for you constructive criticism and comments. I appreciate the view!

+Gregg Cleland Hi just to comment on the knife throw, I've tried it with a lighter and smaller knife, makes it even less predictable in it's flow of direction. I found throwing from below the hip is actually more accurate and faster than from the head, and at close range of 2 metres the chances are very much higher.

this was a beautiful ambush. good tacticalmovement to the ambush sight. Awesome communication. weapons placement was on point. and accurate fires into the kill zone. the 249 gunner delivered a high volume of fire upon initiation of the ambush. This shit was gorgeous. it wasn't a near ambush so the assault element wasn't gonna assault through. but still though this shit was gorgeous. This is an accurate depiction of what the ambush is supposed to look like. Good shit...no negative comment from me

Very cool film. my complements to the crew and cast. loved the dialogue. acting was good. obvious research went into this. a few pieces of criticism: a spec ops team would be more mobile than that, especially again a force with superior firepower and numbers. when the mortar threatened they should have changed position immediately. also, flash suppressors should have made pinpointing their pos much more difficult for enemy calling in artillery. should not have been able to see muzzle flashes in the tree line. that said, great film. great tribute to the real warriors.
@EmptyCanFilms9 жыл бұрын

+OldDaddyDarkness lets say you were in the military and if you were in a fire fight you would try to stay immobile to maintain cover if you were mobile you have a higher chance of getting shot
@RussellPartyof59 жыл бұрын
+OldDaddyDarkness but yes everything else i agree with
@OldDaddyDarkness9 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. Any Army infantryman out of Basic Training will tell you that the motto of firefight tactics is to "shoot and move". Staying behind cover prompts the enemy to take up positions to counter yours. By staying mobile, you can deny your enemy the opportunity to adequately defend against your position. To avoid taking fire while mobile, your squad lays down a suppressing fire to force your enemy behind cover while you move to flank. This way, you can get around your enemy's defensive cover and assault them from a direction from which they're not defended. You can also use this tactic to retreat, laying down a suppressing fire to prevent the enemy from firing on your position while your teammates withdraw. Staying stationary in a firefight invites the enemy to call artillery strikes on your position. Staying mobile ensures they're only shooting at where you were, not where you are. While this is an essential concept for squad tactics and discretionary warfare, it's also a principle of mobile armor and naval warfare.
@seanreeves54939 жыл бұрын
right. shoot move communicate.....but this was a far ambush. if they would've pushed an assault element through the kill zone I can see that whole assault element being killed assaulting through would not be a good idea for em

A but of constructive criticism: when the civilians got shot, they wouldn't just slump forward. A .45 round (I assume) point blank would slam their head forward, they would drop almost immediately. Great movie guys!
@collinbarham59858 жыл бұрын
Ok, I am going to start off with what I loved about it. I thought that your story was fantabulous. I was engaged in the video, I liked the characters, everything was good. From the beginning to about 12:10 all the cuts were well timed, the action seemed real and I don't have many complaints about it. But once it reached 12:10 there were too many cuts in places where it all could have been one. They were poorly timed and just didn't blend well in general. A great film should blend the cuts so well that no one would ever know. I also thought that the VFX was a bit unnecessary at times. Like with the bullets hitting the ground it is good that dust popped up but when it hit a tree it should not be the same dust. The coloring of the film, I think, is a bit heavy and could be toned down a bit but in all, I enjoy all your videos very much and think that you are a very good filmmaker.

Great action. Examplary and all by the book movement and engagement process. Exactly as taught by all NATO armies. My best to the director and the military consultant. If there's room for just a notice i would expect a less "Hollywood approach" at 14:34 where the side arm of the sniper jams (!!) during his assault against the mortar crew, and he stabs the enemy officer by throwing his knife...That is soooooo John Wayne! I'd rather pass... Yet the overall action is excellent. Keep up the good work guys!

Problem with the plot. The team (besides acting like a bunch of paintball players on a weekend jaunt) compromised their position and mission because of what, exactly? The two people were already dead. Nobody was being rescued, nobody was being saved. The team risked themselves, their mission, and the larger stance of US neutrality for no valid operational reason.

Maybe not. They're fighting terrorist wannabes, not war-veteran Russians with real experiences. In that kind of distance, it'd be pretty hard to hit anything but some weak suppression fires with AKs, and machinegunes. When the gap is between inexperienced terrorist wannabes and US Navy SEALs, this could be realistic. Now if the opponent was more experienced terrorists, Georgian or Russian forces... it would've been complicated. We don't pull off COD style missions unless we know they're just fanatical idiots.
@countrywild43411 жыл бұрын
pekau hmmm makes since, but it seemed like they were speaking Russian?? so what you're saying though is that they were just Russian gangsters with guns.
@blub212111 жыл бұрын
pekau I realize this may sound wrong (not my intention) but the sad truth is that "Terrorists wannabees" have been killing Americans for some time and it doesn't take war-veteran Russians to kill a soldier. So, get of your high horse if you please. And if you haven't heard about Afghanistan, what about Vietnam?
@HeadshotWaffle11 жыл бұрын
blub2121 No, it really doesn't take much. Just a bullet with the right name on it. But there are still a lot of factors that shift the odds as to whether or not the one for you is in the other guy's magazine.
@pekau11 жыл бұрын
blub2121 Of course. Even French forces killed some Germans during the early stage of WWII. When you have so many militias and you have the option to attack first by blending in and ambushing at any moment in open field, of course terrorists will score some kills. All I am saying is marksmanship especially in that range under the heat of battle is not something easily achieved without serious training and battle experiences. (I know COD series say otherwise) And it so happens that US Navy SEALs are among the top warriors in United States military, some of the most well-funded and experienced military force on Earth and easy access to various ethnic groups from over 300 million population. Typical terrorists fighting Navy SEALs is like college brat like me challenging an Olympic gold-medalist in gymnastics. Having said that, there are some skilled terrorists. I've met some Serbian war-veterans that actually engaged military troops including NATO forces and lived to tell the tale. They can pull some mean swings with Cold-War era rifles. Some Iraqi are war-veterans from Iran-Iraq war, and some Afghans learned from veterans who fought Soviet-Afghan War. Some are trained by foreign special forces. All I am saying is the vast majority of terrorists do not have standard training. Their weapons are badly maintained. Some are not often fed properly, and physically unfit to wage battle for long-period of time. Marksmanship and battle endurance is an art. It takes years to master it. And most of the time, fanatical terrorist cells are not skilled warriors. Their jobs is to cause terror, not to achieve military superiority.

Uh... why the hell did they engage? It was too late to save the civilians; the opposing force had unknown assets in the barn and unknown reinforcements easily called by radio. The description says that their primary goal was extraction to return valuable intel. Now they've got five kilometers to go with a wounded man and even more enemy reinforcements possibly en route. Great action; goofy premise.
@BACKWARDSgameREVIEWS8 жыл бұрын
Also, how the hell did they get out with no casualties? That kind of fight would not have ended that well, hell the probably should have lost. They were attacking an entrenched position with small arms fire. The entrenched position had and MG. mortars and more men. Simply put they should have either lost that fight or been seriously injured winning it.
@snipinmonsta8 жыл бұрын
You also have to remember they they came by surprise and were able to eliminate a lot of hostile Steiger revealing their position also they had sniper support to protect them from the MG that the enemy had and the sniper never revealed his position so they had a huge advantage in that department by the time they realized exactly where the marines were they were already destroyed they had too many casualties

Nicely done, well thought out and one of the better video's with effects (bullets hitting in the trees, bullet impacts ect) Again, Well thought out and presented. Congratulations. As a Soldier, I watch these films and usually yell at the screen like a madman, and when my Girlfriend is here, she asks "Who are you talking to? The TV/Computer cant hear you, you know" but this time, aside from the "oh shit, my pistol's empty, lemme throw my knife at him and kill him". You just really,really lost me at that point,lol. I see some people-and I used to be one, who just tear kids down, instead of encouraging, and offering "CONSTRUCTIVE criticism", not just ragging for raggings sake, and offering pointers and tips/ideas to make your next work better...and I do hope there is a next work. You kids really have some talent, you just need to be a bit more 'dialed in' so to speak. Constructive Criticism-- *the immaculate and seemingly clean uniforms and gear, *the 1 dude chewing that weed like some stereotypical high school douche-bag jock, *the non- glare covered bino's/glass (old school we used our girlfriends old pantyhose, cut up and taped over ends of bino glass to prevent glare and shine, although now they make honeycomb devices specifically for this purpose), *The out-loud conversation...from the time you leave the "wire", you communicate in hand and arm signals, or at least a very quiet whisper if need be, *Stereotypical "Do Rag" as seen on every black dude in every movie it seems, especially Military-themed movies, you can always see them with these black head rags. Dont believe me-watch for a black guy in a military or gang movie next time, and I bet you you'll start to notice this. *Did I mention brand new and spotless (No dirt at all on uniforms or headgear, despite what I would assume to be days if not weeks om operation, and sweat and dirt would make things much dirtier than shown here, BUT, you are portraying SEALs, so nice spotless uniforms,hair gel and cologne are acceptable,lol *Obvious comms gear, but where are the antenna for the invisible radios with only mouthpiece'? *ALICE pack,Large, but looks empty. In this case, a ALICE Medium with or without frame may have been the better choice, or any one of hundreds of assault packs on the market around the portrayed time-frame. This was a small niggle however. * and in the last shot,where they are all walking towards the enemy compound, in what I am guessing was supposed to be a "Lazy W" formation, wouldnt have happened most likely, as overwatch would have more than likely been used, however, I know you must take "Artistic License" with some things, the same as "SPR" ,"", and "Blackhawk Down" did as well. Some people seem to forget that these are MOVIES, and sometimes artistic license has to trump tactics ect, to make the story more interesting, for continuity, or just to keep the viewer emotionally invested in the characters and plot. Again, well gone guys. For the most part. this was a very good work. You should be proud. If you ever need tactical/Military advice, feel free to contact me and I will do what I can to help you.

I could be one of those dicks who likes to pigeon-hole every little detail... or I could just say Well Damn Done! I think I'll go with the latter.

Guys. it's a freaking movie. shut up and Enjoy. if you don't like it go to another channel. it's not a historic event where specifics are important. it's an action flick.

No heroics looks like a training film that every new recruit should watch to show a "band of brothers" doing what they were trained for

Thanks for the comment. To answer your questions shortly: 1) The mortar explosions as well as blood hits were composited using After Effects CS6 with the use of third party plug-in Action Essentials 2. I used some of this stock footage in combination with some of my own personal creations, blended them together and that's how it turned out. 2) Render setting for export: From Adobe Premiere Pro, h.264 compression with the default HD 1080p 23.976 fps, compressed KZbin Bitrate of about 9.

Don't skirt the tree line be in the tree line. The point was to get to the border not to engage the enemy. I understand why they felt they needed to engage but that wasn't the mission.Stray from the mission and you CO will be pissed.Very well done I like all your short films and I have seen many of them.
