I have two sets of these and rebuilt them both, but after the first one I realized the bushings are not supposed to be pressed in so far into the pedal body. When you look inside there is a little groove and that is where the bushing needs to sit. If you push it to far in it won't spin on the polished area. It will feel solid first, but quickly will develop play due to the axle being tapered. Bearings will be absorbing all the load.

Oh interesting not noticed an issue myself yet... but will keep an eye out! my replacement bushings didn't look the same as the ones that came in the pedals so maybe there a slight difference there. thanks for the heads up.

@@prototypecomponents I noticed that when you extracted them. They looked like DU metal bushings. Did you buy them new? The original Hope bushings are the composite yellow ones.

@@prototypecomponents I see. So I'm sure someone rebuilt them before using aftermarket bushings.

I've been maintaining bikes for 25 years, and I'd say that's just enough grease! Keeps the water out 👍

A 1/8 NPT tap fits perfekt for removing the bushing Just put the tap in a vice, screw the pedal on it and pull. As mentioned before the bushing is not all the way in. Mine was at 14.5mm and the screw cap with the o-ring removed has the perfect size to push the bushing in.

You are a hack master! Your bushing extractor tool and utilising a ratchet clamp as a bushing/bearing press to optimise the socket press method is absolutely fantastic!!!!! What a legend.

Good way of creating a bearing remover. Nice work.

Thanks your right it might work for bearings too but really best just for bushes in my experience removing bearing is its so much easier to buy a cheep blind bearing pulling kit, makes a job that can be a real head ache almost fun..! I have one like this for frame bearing changes: www.amazon.co.uk/YUAN-Bearing-Puller-Remover-Internal/dp/B07DXKRB4V/ref=sr_1_5?adgrpid=109601851382&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwytOEBhD5ARIsANnRjVilK6EjMbpkkGXLvh-UUke5JxMCWDjs5H0sjrvHDW5sA8YJ3w8ju1saApK0EALw_wcB&hvadid=476462594134&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1007464&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10163200049294640747&hvtargid=kwd-298283770308&hydadcr=24889_1723786&keywords=blind+bearing+tool&qid=1620374118&sr=8-5

@@prototypecomponents I got new Hope F20s and an upgraded Ti axle set here: www.superstarcomponents.com/en/hope-f20-titanium-axles.htm. Do I need to use anti seize for all the grease application instead of lithium grease? Thanks. Superstar told me to eff off when I asked them.
@prototypecomponents
@prototypecomponents 3 жыл бұрын
@@demetrimouratis154Ti and alloy do tend to bind together but in this instance they are not in direct contact as the axle sits on the busshing and SS bearings. I think normal grease would be best, anti seize has small bit of soft metal in it which might get in your bearings and cause them to have a shorter lifespan.
@demetrimouratis154
@demetrimouratis154 3 жыл бұрын
@@prototypecomponents Awesome, on the axle thread interface with the cranks and on the end cap nut, I'd do anti-seize only there right? Ti/Aluminum interface.
@prototypecomponents
@prototypecomponents 3 жыл бұрын
@@demetrimouratis154 Axel to crank is a bit of a personal preference thing if your fitting them and not planning on taking them off for 3years maybe anti seize but for me they come on and off quite often to switch between flats and spds so normal grease works for me. as for the end cap I would use normal grease this bit is stainless to alloy.
