The Stem Cells are Grown on a scaffold or matrix that is microscopic,think of an ice cube tray with an RPE cell in each slot.Then a special surgical tool was developed to insert / slide the cells like a tiny rug under the macular. This was taken on by the US NIH and is in clinical trials. It is my understanding that this process and the extremely delicate micro surgery is very difficult to do and that how to do this at scale is still being worked out. I believe this is still many years away from hopefully receiving requlatory approval. There are other articles on the internet about this development but not a lot.
