You didn’t fail, it was trial #1. Next year maybe try raised beds. I couldn’t get anything to grow and a nursery owner suggested I try doing raised beds. Worked great for me. Only thing I would do differently is I would raise the bed more. Makes it so much easier on the back.

If there are enough trees left in town to produce leaves - Consider putting a layer 1/2" to 6" of barn cleanings and maunuer down on your tilled garden space. Then put a layer of leaves a couple of leaves deep to 12". To keep the leaves in place top them with cardboard, tarps, or even thrift store bed sheets. - Clear until Feb-Apr ypu can lift the cardboard et al to toss some additional manuer based material, wood chips, clean (no preservative type wood) saw dust, and even coffee grounds. If you wash all the forever chemicals off your produce, you can lift the top covering along the edges to do in-ground composting or veggie pitting; dig a hole, dump your veggie scraps, cover with 2"-4" of dirt.

The ducks swimming and pooping in the drinking water can make the other animals sick, especially the goats. Maybe attach panels over the top with squares big enough for the animals to drink out of but not so big the ducks can get in them. You may have to fill them more often to make sure to keep the water high enough t for the goats to reach in and drink. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good luck. Ducks are very determined to get into buckets/ troughs of water.
