After finishing watching this video, before coming down to the comment section to express my opinion, i had the exact same thought in mind. Wherever the anc moves, in some form or another there is a result of destruction in some way or another. Very little to nothing is done for taxpayers, and anc is like a parasite just taking however suits them.

Nonsense: hyacinth seeds can lie dormant for 25 years. This physical removal is a way of managing the issue but short term. What is needed is a totally lateral approach to the challenge. Such as killing the plants with harmonic frequency vibrations.

Early yesterday morning I watched a Carte Blanche video showing how the anc collapsed the Knysna municipality. This morning I learned that the anc is a MAJOR contributor to the destruction of the Haarties dam. Seems like, wherever the anc goes, in some shape or form destruction follows down its path. And that, to me, sounds like a big problem. A problem that must be resolved on 29 May 2024, in the elections!

Another problem with hyacinth is that it increases evaporation 3-fold by means of evapotranspiration through the leaves. We need to conserve our water resources. The hopper is not the only insect that feeds on hyacinth. I have tried a weevil and a moth as biocontrol agents. Both unsuccessful. Maybe with the breeding programme in place, the hopper will be more successful.

The problem starts with the law. The law should state that no house should be built less than 100 m from rivers. I believe there was a rule like that many years back. Now they built houses and estates on islands in rivers below flood levels etc. although environmental impact studies had been done obviously with money under the table. Things done wrong will never get right. The pollution of the Rhine river was such an example. Maybe we should learn what they have done.

In False Bay, sewerage flows into the ocean (with NO distaster cause). Nelson Mandela Bay? Knysna? The DA is TERRIBLE at water management - historically! The hyacinths are an excellent animal and ostrich food. Animals in drought areas are dying of hunger and thirst. Carotenoids in flowers. Herbicides killed the plants...then the toxic mix sank to the bottom...fish died by the millions, the clear water was no longer filtered by the roots... WE LIVED AT HARTEBEESPOORT DAM AT THAT TIME..changed from fishing paradise to a large developement around a sewerage system. NB..what will the hoppers eat when the hyacinths are gone? Pelindaba Uranium plant also contributed to massive multiplication of algae..witnesses reports...plus Jukskei river pollution from surrounding settlements.

Megamelus was introduced to South Africa in 2013. Other insects have been around since the 70s and they contribute to the reduction of the water hyacinth as well. Because of how heavily the plants were sprayed historically the insects could not survive in high enough numbers to damage the plants. Now, between mass rearing and the cessation of spraying the insects are having an impact. The records do exist.
