Honestly Craig can’t thank you enough for this man, you have gone above and beyond with this, I was happy just having the rusty old thing back with an Xbox connection wired in 😂 can’t wait to try it. Thank you again mate. 👍

🤣 thank you. I'm no wizard, more like when it all goes wrong in Fantasia. I thought I'd show that as it was one of the biggest parts of the project even if it wasn't the most technical, it took me a few weeks to sort the whole thing with each change and the finding time to run off the next print. Cheers for watching.

Thanks Pete. Yeah I bet a lot went in the bin with the rust issue that seems to be common on them. I fancy doing more but even finding faulty ones at a decent price is difficult. I fancy doing a Neo Geo one for myself.

Enjoyed a few new channels on Swap Shop last night. Nothing wrong with looking at another guys joystick. 🤣 It turned out great, I'm up for doing more but it's getting a good solid base to start with is the expensive bit, those Hori sticks ain't cheap and not seen anything similar with enough space inside to do the PCB swap. The swap out isn't that much work really, just a lot of wires to some small pads.

Nice Craig, I wondered how you was gonna convert it Xbox. Shame you didn’t replace them crappy buttons with some nice arcade quality ones but from the sounds of it, it would have come out of your pocket so totally get it. Nice job on the wrapping and spraying. Shame you didn’t go in to much detail and have footage of the fault finding when you removed the sticks. That would have been very interesting I think. Favorite bit was when you described the torx fitting as ‘like a star’ very smooth 😂
@GoodwinsPlace3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, glad you liked it. Scott is covering cost of parts but I think he was happy with the buttons. I agree though a different set could be a cool upgrade. Other than me scratching my head and then reading the continuity on the old joystick pots it wasn't much more detail to sorting the joysticks but will try and get bits like that included in the future. Torx smorx, star shape is more on my level. 🤣🤣 I honestly don't know why I didn't call it Torx at the time. Cheers for watching.

That is an absolutely cracking job Craig. Very smart indeed. I'm after a "ball" for a PC Engine arcade stick I've got. Where did you get your bits from?
@GoodwinsPlace3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It turned out quite smart in the end, really enjoyed doing a bit of everything on this one. That ball is from Arcade World UK, think it was a fiver posted. They are normally a standard thread size on most sticks.

🤣 thank you. The strange thing is none of the screws underneath or anything else had rust on it. I think it is just the metal they used seems to like to attract moisture. Hopefully it will stop or at least slow it down now.

Lovely job 👍 the perfect amount of hot glue too 🙂 I wondered how you were going to interface it, reusing a controller board was a good idea. It is close to USB iirc.
@GoodwinsPlace3 жыл бұрын
😂👍Hot glue comes a close second on my danger list after super glue. Yeah the original Xbox pad is pretty much a fancy USB connection, I've done some memory card modifications too in the past where you can plug a USB stick straight in to either the port or in to the controller memory card slot, the system is pretty much a basic gaming PC when you think of it. Thanks as always for watching.
@RetroClaire3 жыл бұрын
With you there! Super glue is pure evil, and not all that super either. I only ever dab a bit on with the end of a wooden skewer and try to stay several inches clear. KFC do useful skewers incidentally, stuck into their corn cobs. Loved the paint effect btw, big 👍
@GoodwinsPlace3 жыл бұрын
Great tip on the skewer. I thought it would add a little bit of a different vibe to the bottom of the unit rather than the previous rust effect.

I have that exact same joystick for my Sega Saturn, but one of the buttons no longer works..I've been sitting on it for years..I don't want to get rid of it, since I still use my Saturn but I don't have a good joystick to use with it anymore. Not sure I can get it fixed anywhere locally.

Might be able to just clean the contacts on that button. I'd start by opening it up and testing the continuity to make sure it's still functional.

So first question is that is it possible to put sanwa jlf lever? And will fit using typical fightboard (brook board) ?
@GoodwinsPlace3 жыл бұрын
Yes to the JST connector on the Samwa they run same style microswitches and have a common ground on the 5th pin. Not sure on the fit, you can get the depth dimensions on a lot of websites, you'd need to find out if the depth is right but it shouldn't be much more than the standard. Are you looking to do an original Xbox stick or something else?
