I feel that ya'll missed the part with Kyosuke being established with the other characters, and the relations. It was a showing and not telling part. While Hori-san is rather abusive towards him (because of how childish he acts and can be dismissive of things, also possibly her own abandonment issues) she still loves him enough to make him some food. And his wife is surprised to see him, but quickly jumps into being worried about there not being enough food for him. Which the whole thing does get played off for laughs, but that's the character of Kyosuke. He is hardly ever serious, as you both shall find out. We don't need to know about his job, just that he has one that keeps him away from his family a lot. This show isn't about Kyosuke, so unimportant factors like his job don't get brought up. My opinion, Kyosuke has an amazing introduction into this serious. Not only does he walk in on Hori-san and Miyamura talking about what was said, he ends up putting Hori-san into a position that forces her to choose on the spot.

Remi wasn't actually pushing her work on Hori. The student council president was kinda doing that as revenge for the way she used to treat him when they were growing up. They even went over that at the end of the episode.

It’s just a joke about how he’s never home due to work and his family gets rid of his things little by little. And about Remi........ you need to chill a bit??? The story isn’t about redemption?? It’s just people becoming friends and starting to get along with each other. This isn’t supposed to be a serious story. If that’s what you’re expecting don’t be surprised. The point is people aren’t one thing. Hori and Miyamura literally have sides to them that others don’t see. It’s not all black and white, there is no real villain in this story, just life.

Well the anime is really fast, Everything was more natural in the manga I guess. I think in one of the earlier episodes there was interaction between Toru ad Sakura. I guess they also didn't have time to keep all character interactions from the manga. The manga is more than a 100 chapters and this anime is 12 episodes.

Miyamura becomes Hori’s boyfriend - Tohru feels down - Sakura becomes worried - Remi notices her behavior and asks her about it - Sakura’s own insecurities about her looks come out. All of it felt like a natural flow to me. Sure, they packed a few of the chapters in one episode, but I think they still kept the flow of this show going.

I watched the series but I haven't read the manga yet, I always read manga AFTER because it's nicer to read "extra content" than to read the manga first and spend the whole anime looking at "missing" content. Personally the pacing feels wonderful, I was able to relax and enjoy everything so much sooner knowing they started trying to say "i like you" as early as episode 3 and they settled the whole topic by episode 5, it just meant the rest of the show was about what happens next. All the cut content seems fine, I've peaked at a couple moments in the manga here and there but my thought was never "ohhh the anime would have been better if they didn't skip this" it was more like "oh i see this explains why I felt this way when I saw that scene". The feelings matter, the context doesn't always need to be there in advance and that's why it works so well. I felt the right emotions when Cloverworks wanted me to, which means they did their job as far as I'm concerned.

carson says that remi did nothing to deserve linesey's forgiveness but i honestly dont know what remi did of so serious to deserve to be hated forever by carson and to have to redeem herself somehow. it seems that he just wants to hate her. I think his pride is in the way of liking her, cause i really dont understand so much hate on a kid. If i am missunderstanding something please explain, cause in my country its okay to be wrong once or twice and its okay to commit mistakes. Maybe there is a cultural barrier happening here and maybe canadians dont tolerate mistakes, after all canada is almost perfect country

I think people are getting angry cuz they have basically 'sided' with Hori since shes the mc and have seen more of her than Remi. If you look at it from an outsiders perspective, it just looks like 2 girls fighting for one guy but one girl apparently got angry because she can't accept the fact that the other girl is also going for her crush. They also weren't officially dating at that point so she doesn't have the right to be angry

I agree. Sure Remi may be a dick in the beginning but as the series progresses, she becomes more likable. She's not my favorite character but I do start to like her character regardless and her ways of joking and her being lazy starts to grow on me.

They are living separately, but they aren't divorced. The reason isn't clear even in the webcomic, but Hori said the main reason is that her mom is "helplessly pathetic." (instead of Kyosuke, surprisingly) The reason, Kyosuke's job, is just added when the webcomic was adapted as the manga. It seems they weren't doing well as a wife and a husband, but they didn't hate each other! Not all scenes are like this but HoriMiya shows and doesn't tell! @BoldCast

I think the main problem they have had with this series is that they come with a lot of prejudices and assumptions from other romantic comedy anime, and they are preparing for the worst. They should get away from the idea that this anime is like other series where to maintain the status quo the characters act out of character and in a stupid way just to lengthen the drama. These characters are not perfect, but if they make mistakes it is because they are teenagers, with racing minds that get jealous or change their mood very easily, but at the end of the day what they want is to connect with each other. And by God this series is more efficient and less dramatic than others, in only this episode a love confusion was solved, they became a couple, hold hands, they established a friendship with a couple of secondary characters, all without losing their comical side. for other romance series only one of those things would take a full season

Of course I hope that the show itself will change those ideas preconceived but many people, not all but many, may not enjoy this wholesome anime simply because they expected something very different

She made an honest careless mistake in Ep 2 and made a stupid prank on Hori but she's not an evil villain overlord, she's just a teenager living her teenage life. She's not even mean to anyone and she's not even a bully. I get not liking characters who get in the way of the main couple but she's literally not even a threat, she has a boyfriend and she's not a cheater. I'm kind of scared of what you'll later say about Yuki later.

In response to Remi, I have to say Lindsey hit the nail head on, although admittedly I was equally as harsh as Carson and misinterpreted her jokes. Simply speaking, she is kind of a troll, who likes to push people's nerves, kinda the opposite of Miyamura, who wants to be just on the best side of everyone and do no wrong! :) Edit: Also I love how Carson said, 'Using stupidity for good'! I may make that a superpower of one of my DnD characters! :D

One thing to keep in mind is the manga give more space for stories and several shorter arc are cut out (in the first episode, the friend having a small crush for the mysterious barrier-jumper-egg-seeker unknown student is just flash-introduced and cut out). As for the mom, she lied about food for the sad, she is cold toward her husband just like Thoru, he work away and come back time to time. Prez's girlfriend: dude, you project your pre-assumption on her way much more than her character is shown. She never tried to steal our man, she teased Thoru because she saw she was attracted to Izumi, just like a friend (or a mom) do when they notice those things.

They basically animated the greatest hits from the manga because after a certain point, the main storyline ended and it became an episodic slice of life.

I haven't read the manga, but I assume everything here is cannon. Aside from that bit with the side characters this episode was about first names, since everything else related to that topic. I'm sure you know by now how intimate it is for the Japanese to call a non-relative by their first name. That bit with Hori's father reminded me of when Kaguya was talking to Miyuki's father, and he kept pointing that was his name too. Of course Kyosuke played it up for his own amusement. I watched episode 5 on Funimation right before watching this because it makes things easier to follow along.

The biggest problem with this anime is that they condensed a 100+ chapter monthly manga down to only 12 episodes. So they skipped A LOT. They are basically only touching on a few moments here and there. Like her dads job, the manga actually talked about it. The anime is just not that great of an adaptation because it's way too condensed. Like it's only 5 episodes and we're over 30 chapters in.

The Horimiya anime covers in a single season over 120 manga chapters. The anime skips a TON of stuff covered in the manga. It's kind of like a season long commercial for the manga. Basically, that means it skips a lot, there time skips where things happen in the manga, but you won't see it in the anime, and there's a sh*t load of details missing.
