So I just spent 4 hours doing a dangerous upgrade and completely disassembled my laptop and added liquid metal thermal paste. I benchmarked in zero dawn before and after, and I knocked down 15 degrees C on average! It never throttled, it looked way better than before, and I'm now more excited for FW than before! It took my lowest fps from 9 to 30 and boosted my average by 10! Super risky but massive payoff

That would be really cool! I don't expect it at launch, but Nixxes has added this PSN-Steam link feature in a few other games they've ported recently, like the Spider-Man games and Ratchet and Clank. I wouldn't be surprised if all these games with the PSN-Steam link eventually receive an update to add cross save. I hope so anyway!

Awesome! Glad you're excited, especially for shredders. They're my favorite 😁 I think a 3080 should be able to hit 4K 60FPS if you're willing to turn down some settings. You can bet I'll have a detailed settings guide as soon as I get a chance to play around with it! I'm guessing recommended specs for 1080p 60FPS to be in the ballpark of an RTX 2070. That's just my guess based on the Zero Dawn specs and the specs for other Nixxes ports though. Could be a bit higher or lower. Hopefully they provided recommended 1440p and 4K settings as well.

Ah yeah I think a lot of people are wondering about that! Will it run? Probably. Will you be satisfied with 15-30 FPS on low settings? That's for you to decide 😉 Haha, but seriously, idk what FPS it will run at on Deck exactly, or how much you'll have to turn down settings, but I'd be shocked if you're able to hold a steady 30FPS at anything above low settings. It may even struggle at low settings. I anticipate the port to be good, as it's being handled by Nixxes, but the Deck just has limitations, as I know you're aware.

So I have a 3070ti laptop and 12900k. I know with zero dawn I could run it at 4k 50 fps but I don’t remember if I was running with dlss or not. I also don’t know if it had dlss integrated really well or not. Before I preorder, will I be able to run this game at high 4k with dlss 2.0? (3 doesn’t work on 30 series)

It’s very hard to say at this point since we don’t have recommended specs. I’ll be sure to let people know when the recommended specs are out! That being said, I would think you’ll be able to run the game at 4K high on your 3070ti, but definitely not at 60FPS. Maybe 30FPS. Forbidden West is more graphically intensive than Zero Dawn.

From my understanding, does 3 is frame generation where 2 is resolution generation at its core. I could run 2k 60 native without dlss, so with an improved dlss I think I can get a consistent 45 if my estimate is right. Either way I guess I just have to wait

Yeah it’s hard to predict if DLSS 2 will be better implemented here than in Zero Dawn. I don’t think the implementation in Zero Dawn is bad, so I would expect about the same uplift from DLSS 2 in Forbidden West. But, of course, we’ll be starting with more demanding graphics, so I would definitely expect lower FPS than what you’re able to get in Zero Dawn. Perhaps it won’t be that much less though.

Oh so that's called overdraw. Most weapons in Forbidden West have the overdraw mechanic, but it needs to be unlocked by upgrading the weapon at least 1 level first.

I want to get Horizon Forbidden West on PC someday. I'm not sure if my laptop, with an i7 8th gen and RTX 2060, will run it smoothly. However, my ultimate wish is to own a PS5 so I can experience the PS5 version and Burning Shores. I've already invested 125 hours into the PS4 version, having purchased the special edition on launch day, and there's still plenty left to do. I hope to a PS5 to start fresh and complete all the errands and sidequests, along with playing Burning Shores. Hopefully, that day will come in a few months. I'm hoping to secure a job next month, which would be the best birthday present, today is my birthday! Haha

Actually, not sure if you caught it in the video, but the PC version is the Complete Edition, so it comes with the Burning Shores DLC! Forbidden West might be a bit tough on an RTX 2060, but I think it would run the game ok at 1080p with reduced settings. I'll definitely be covering the specs once they're released and will be able to make hardware recommendations at that time. Best of luck with securing a job, and happy birthday! 🥳

​@@ArktixOfficial Sorry for the long text: Yes, I'm aware. I already own the PS4 version, but I'm also interested in acquiring the physical release of the complete edition someday. Considering the performance on PS4 and PS4 Pro, I believe it could run smoothly at 1080p. While most people won't achieve the same level of output as the PS5, with a good configuration like 12GB of VRAM that many don't have, it can come close. Even with 6/8GB of VRAM, it could surpass the PS4 Pro experience. I think my laptop should perform close to a PS4 Pro experience, even surpassing it in some areas, but it will never quite match up to the PS5. Forbidden West's motion looks better than Zero Dawn on PS4, except in instances where there's a lot going on, like settlements, which can impact performance due to CPU and data streaming. I also platinumed Zero Dawn on PS4, and now I'm working on doing the same on PC (I'm close). However, my experience on Windows 11 isn't the same as before on Windows 10, I'm facing performance issues regardless of the graphic settings. I may need to factory reset or use a cleaner version of Windows to resolve them. But I know Nixxes port will be better than Zero Dawn; it needs to run as smoothly as Death Stranding, if not better.

Gotcha. Yeah I think you're right that your laptop should be able to run Forbidden West approximately as good as the PS4 Pro. Hopefully you'll be able to reduce some settings to push closer to 60FPS on the laptop though. Not sure why Windows 11 is causing you issues. Like you said, maybe a reset/clean install of Windows is needed.

Im really excited still about playing Horizon Forbidden West launch day on PC atleast getting ready, hoping to preorder and finishing my Horizon Zero Dawn game. But its been three weeks since I last played because my laptop needs fixing and I'm waiting for parts. Im still unsure about the cost from a third party, as HP's services are asking for a high amount to replace the fans. Im awaiting a budget/estimate. On the bright side, I achieved 100% completion in Zero Dawn. Unfortunately, my laptop's GPU started overheating during The Frozen Wilds, prompting further investigation. Nonetheless, I have good news I finally secured a job that may start in March or by the end of March Im really happy I may start drawing again too.

god I hope it will have fsr 3 support. I just finally want to see amd's frame gen in a game I'd actually play and in an actual BIG game. I'm so hyped to finally play it in a propper way. I played it on release on ps5 but man that hardware just doesn't hold up, didn't since it's release, so glad to finally see the blighted parts of the world in actual 4k withou shimmering in the air but actual like fog and dust and clean edges in full 60! GOD I waited so long for this. I just need ghost of tsushima on pc now and tlou 2 on pc, they were great on mother consoles, but I just need the perfection. Preferably ported by nixxes as well :DD

Ghost and TLOU Part 2 on PC would be great. I'm sure they'll happen. Horizon on PC should be excellent 😁 Not sure if the FSR implementation will be FSR 3. Unfortunately, that's not clear yet. But if it doesn't have it at launch, I would assume they'll add it at some point.

And if they start porting sucker punch games to pc, that would be a bye bye from me on the next generation of playstation. No point in getting an underpowered console :D

Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything about cross-save. So, I wouldn’t expect it at launch, but I bet they’ll add it eventually. Sony seems to want to integrate with PC as much as possible.

On that train of thought, the PC port for the remake also came around the release of the show. Who knows if it'll shake out that way, I dunno how involved the creators of the games will be in the show.

HFW animations have a lot of motion capture, and going back and redoing HZD to use motion capture in the dialogs would be a LOT of work. Maybe Guerilla feels that the franchise has lots of potential, and maybe Guerilla feels that the lore from HZD is so important that the older game needs to be really shiny to properly represent the franchise, so maybe Guerilla makes the investment. Maybe. (Do I sound skeptical? I might be.)

True that's a good point. I think the Netflix show is at least a year out though and I doubt they wanted to wait to release Forbidden West on PC for that long. Hopefully the HZD remaster comes sooner than we think!

@@dondumitru7093 I do get that it would be a technical challenge, but then so was the TLOU remake. Shortcuts they can take is preserving the original mocap data for most things with extra hand-animated stuff, but for most like normal conversation, what they can do is use a smaller number of actors to create a new set of mocap data to use during conversation. For example: the way Life Is Strange remaster team added new facial animation to the characters was just hiring new actors to do a big set of facial expressions that they used throughout the game to heighten the expressiveness of the characters. Point is, there are ways to go about it without getting the original actors back to rerecord stuff.

We haven’t heard anything about PS-PC cross save and I don’t believe any PlayStation Studios titles ported to PC have had it yet. So, I would expect you’ll have to start a new save on PC. But I would also expect we’ll see cross save at some point in the future. We just have no idea when. Not soon though.

Yah, that final Frozen Wilds fight really was groundbreaking, far more interesting than the lame final boss in Burning Shores. /s (Though I really do find the terrain in Burning Shores to have too much sameness and difficulty traversing. The Frozen Wilds zone was less jarring to explore and felt more varied.)

Both DLCs are amazing in there own way. Frozen Wilds is actually a very interesting and fun DLC from Zero Dawn and I’m very excited into playing Burning Shores after I 100% Forbidden West. (from what I saw from teasers) I’m a fan of Horizon as a whole and I’m eager to see what’s to come in the upcoming future.

If it runs on PS5, it will run on anything above 2070 super. Add in DLSS and FSR and you should be good to go

Hmm. Maybe 60FPS at 1080p if you turn settings down, but honestly, you might have to render at 720p…and you’re definitely going to need more storage space. I expect install size will be at least 4tb…lol 😂

Yes, that is almost certainly the case. Very few PC games launch with discs anymore and I have not heard any mention of it for Forbidden West. It can be purchased digitally through Steam or the Epic Games store.

Shame, because I really wanted a disc (or discs) to go in the empty Steel Case that came with my 'Collector's Edition'. Depends on what resolution and FPS you want to play at. You’ll probably have to turn all graphics settings down to lowest and use 720p resolution. Sata SSDa are pretty cheap now though. I would recommend getting one for a big improvement to your experience (and any other games you install on it)
