Brian, I just got mine a few days ago as well. I moved the aileron's to the furthest outside hole and solved the aileron issue. I liked it on the outside hole because i was then able to reduce my rates a bit in the TX for better control of things. I noticed the flare issue as well you could slow it down great but nose seemed to not want to come up for a nice flare. Also I had a servo strip out on me for my second flight the exterior gear is metal but the inner gear's are all plastic. I rebuilt the servo with an old one I had laying around to fix the aileron servo. Plane flies amazing but servo's are pretty crap. Also the recommended throws in the manual to me are a little to conservative and need to be extended out. Going to be replacing the flap servo's next as they buzz really badly. The only other thing I hated was getting the wing on and everything through that small hole was difficult for me. I had to put extension's on each wire push it through then remove extension.

I agree with the issue about all that wire through a hole the size of 2-3 servo ends...why is wring always a complete after though??? Did they think we were just gonna hang it on the wall for looks??!?! LOL I really want to flare more on landings, so I can STOL the plane :)

Seems like I’m always late to comment, but it may help someone. If you need to change the position of the control rod on the servo horn, it’s easier and faster (in my opinion) to pop the ball link off and reposition the rod than it is to remove the servo horn from the servo. Just my opinion. Then you can also adjust the linkage if you need to for mechanically neutral control surfaces all without removing any screws.

Perhaps the aileron control link hit the edge of the basketball court after the main gear dropped off the edge. There’s no way you damaged that in flight.

Get a better set of retracts ;( - I know...that's a sucky answer, but it's true. The FMS Futura has AWESOME retracts and similar size. Might take a look at that (it's in my videos too...then you can follow the link to see the parts available)

Just got my Viper.......the back landing gears froze up......how do I unfreeze them.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can press them as though you're trying to push them in past fully retracted. Then get them to come out, and then you can straighten them. What USUALLY happens, is the gear get bent on landing, and they fail to hit "CLOSED" end stop sensor, therefore they "time out". If you can just mechanically get them to push all the way in, they'll many times just spring to life.

Hi Brian, If the flap linkage is the same length as the aileron, swap them on the right side. The aileron is more important than the flaps..
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 5 жыл бұрын
I'll have to disagree with you on this one :) If you've ever had a flap on ONE side fail, you'll know what I'm talking about.... The aileron is a redundant control surface, so if you lose one side, you may not even know it happened, unless you notice a sluggishly roll rate, ironically, I've also had this happen to me, ON THE SAME PLANE, now that I think of it!!! When you have one flap fail UP or DOWN, you will create a nasty YAW and ROLL from the "other one" that's not behaving. It's kinda dicey to land with a half operating flap system. I believe this is why the ailerons, flaps, and spoilers on large aircraft are split up between two or more hydraulic systems in sections that alternate on BOTH sides. This helps to prevent a complete failure. Hope this makes sense!
@DonDegidio
@DonDegidio 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, As someone who lost control of an aileron, it was not pleasant and resulted in a crash. It was the slowing speed coming in for a landing is what did it in for the plane. Better waiting for a new link, or salvage one from another plane for now.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 5 жыл бұрын
Oh no!!! I'm sorry to hear that happened! The plane that it happened to be on was my P-51D Blondie 1.2m...both aileron and flap, not at the same flight.
@DonDegidio
@DonDegidio 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, That was 30 or more years ago. What happened, as the plane slowed for landing into a 10 or so mph wind the aileron started flapping causing right and left rolling and I couldn't compensate fast enough. Now if a control linkage is suspect, I replace it before next flight.

Brian, if one would be looking to get a first jet, and one thinks the habu is super ugly, would the viper be the way to go? Or is the f-16 just as good, since it also has safe?

@@BrianPhillipsRC I just had my first flight with the Viper today, it went really well. First landing with full flaps and cut power was a bit jumpy, 2nd landing with full flaps and like 5-10% power was smooth as butter. This thing is perfect as a beginner edf! This was my 10th flight with an rc plane in real life and I have about 24 hours in RF 9.5. Just shows that the sim really makes a big difference. Thanks for your videos, I learn a lot.

Hi Brian, I have been watching your Viper build and adjustments. I had concerns in regard to how close the receiver antenna is to the battery. In this model Viper do you relocate the main antenna towards the tail? Or have you left the receiver antenna as per the original build? I was worried about signal loss being so close to the battery. What are your thoughts?
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't had any issues, but having a lipo on TOP of the antenna is generally preferable to having the antenna on the TOP of the battery....since we fly from the ground ;) This plane has one issue...battery bay is too small for a big pack. It's a LOT of work to get it all the way back, and ironically enough, the F-16 is similar - go figure ;) LOL

@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andreas! I think you might be pushing it a little bit with an XT60...and XT90 would be better. I can't speak to "T" Plugs in great detail, as I haven't spent a lot of time with them. Here's what you might use as a rule of thumb...look at the ESC to help you decide what type of connector to consider. This is a 70 amp ESC, so you might exceed this mythical 60 amp rating on the XT60...I say mythical, as I know that these XT60's will generally handle a LOT more than 60 amps, but for how long, and under what conditions would the plastic start to melt is something I can't honestly say, so like you, I'll err on the safe side.

You should experiment (to a point) with the COG, a little tail heavy will have a better elevator control and in some cases will fly a lot nicer, with my flying style i like a tail heavy plane and I like nice a responsive elevator.
