This is a song about being homesick, and missing your loved ones. I started writing this song in Scotland in 2016 and finally finished it in 2020. I decided to record the song as a layered hurdy-gurdy-"orchestra" version again, but this time with more percussion for the epic-ness. Here's the result! I hope you enjoy it. #hurdygurdy #folkmusic
This traditional instrument is called "hurdy gurdy" and has its roots in the medieval times. It works like a mechanical violin with a wheel bow, that can play bass, melody and rhythm all at once. Most layers of this song are recorded using only the hurdy gurdy, except the epic percussion - played by the producer Simon Michael! I knew about the Loreley that she saw her lovers face in the waters and jumped. I did not know that she or the sirens whispered to seamen in order to drown them. I learn more every day.
