As someone who went down the indie path as a coder, It's fascinating to watch as someone who's more artistically inclined work on something as simple as trees. Never would have though to turn a half torus and a rounded off cylinder into a tree. Bonus points because it came out looking pretty good in a surreal/dreamlike way.

Great video series, thank you! I've watched many of your videos and am learning a ton. You do go very fast sometimes though. I usually watch a video, put on my headset and try things out. I find myself re-watching your videos once I've tried things out and concepts click. I have to say though the building tools are very basic. I hope Meta is planning on improving the tools and adding features so we can slice, dice and hollow out object. I also think the snapping function need so additional features such as locking a snap point so when you snap another point on an object the first one stays in place. They also really need to add the ability to bring in our own textures so we can apply them to objects. I did a lot of building in Second Life back in the day and their build tools are so much more advanced. I'm also looking for a place I can provide the Horizon World team with some feedback and ideas but I haven't found where I can so that. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I have 4 questions. 1. I can not for the life of me get the snapping tool. It jumps about and causes it to be further from the point to join than It was before I pressed down for snapping. Do I go to snapping , let go, then go to first point and then second point? Cause then it pulls it away from opposite side. Then I go there and snap and it pulls away from previous one. Then do I hit trigger to snap or pull down on joystick. Ive looked at many people explanation but no one really says what there hands are doing completely. They say hit snap. But there is something they do when it turns green they snap to. 2 nd question How do you know what needs a script and what doesn't 3 Is there a way to make things like a cube window like. 4. I want to start a poetry world .where they can post there poems. How would I be able to do that. Like a art gallery but poems to look at it instead Thank you so much
@Vidyuu
@Vidyuu 2 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend checking out the official learn hub, it’s got some great tutorials on snapping: www.oculus.com/horizon-worlds/learn/ I really enjoy your poetry world idea, I don’t know exactly how it would work… but with some ingenuity most things are possible :-) As far as windows go, you can use the text gizmo with the following code typed in: “[tab]” Notice that the first six digits are RGB color code in hexadecimal, and the last two digits are the alpha/opacity. Tab is the key you press in the top left, it basically makes a transparent cube as it’s just a blank space :-)

The worlds environment is static so you’ll want to trick the viewer by creating your own skybox-this can be done by very carefully using transparent text. Or by making a cube for the players to stand inside and painting it with the unlit material type :)

Does anyone know if there are any best practices for minimizing capacity? I'm building detailed objects out of basic ones and there's nowhere near enough capacity to do that practically, it doesn't appear that grouping those objects sums them all into one as far as overall capacity is concerned. I've seen some pretty amazing detailed worlds on here, I have to be missing something really simple. For example, I created a steel box with ribs along the sides and rivets on each rib, so like 40 objects plus the rivets, maybe 100 total objects summing into a grouped object. The first time I duplicated it the headset screamed at me and slapped me in my junk. Any ideas?

@Vidyuu

This is a really hard topic, and something I won’t be trying anytime soon… It’s worth noting that to do this right requires a ton of math, and to make an asset could very easily break worlds of those who don’t know how to use it. Perhaps in the future there will be a more stable local scripting system. I do like the oculus but I was hoping for bigger drive. Even as external box would be nice. One thing for sure is that this will be the future. The possibilities are really endless. There is only one thing I do not like, the monitoring and have some Overlord telling people what they can say or not. That is VERY restrictive.

To be fair this is just one corner of the metaverse that hasn't even reached opening day.... There's a lot more features yet to be added. Horizon is focused on optimizing user experience to prevent lag and other issues (this is the goal anyway). That said, if you want complete control now there are other options like Unity and other social apps. I personally love Horizon and being on the ground of this new and upcoming world creation tool. But longterm, all of these experiences and apps will be interconnected. 😁

Hmmm, I heard there was a bug that they’re working on right now, it sounds like you might be experiencing that, I would definitely try back in the next couple days and see if it is working. Also check and see if you have your Oculus settings set to left-handed, that could cause the button to be overridden. I think you need to turn it back to right handed for it to work. But I thought this bug might’ve been solved. So maybe you just use your other recessed button on your right controller? Hmmmm… Technically it is North America only, but if you have the app downloaded then you should have access. No idea how you got it, but great to have you! :-)

So im a couple wks into building my first world on 'Horizons World'. In my world i have 2 staircases kinda mirroring one another on each side of a stage . They both kinda loop up. It was very hard to make them ..well in ur video where u snapped and duplicated the trees next to one another, i realized tht my stairs coulda been created a lot easier and faster.. if u were me would u remake them with this new knowledge or keep them as is? i spent the most time on them than anything else in my world thus far. They look nice but they're not perfect.. there's a different amt of steps on each side and they both aren't a perfect mirrior image of one another like i originally intended. the 'rail' has ribbon going up it tht kinda hides the fact tht they're not perfect tho..
@Vidyuu
@Vidyuu 2 жыл бұрын
This is one of the hardest truths in life, often we sink so many hours into something, then to only learn a new approach that’s faster better and more efficient, it is almost always better to let go of work and move forward with a higher quality better experience. This trap is called the sunk cost fallacy, and it gets me all the time too. So I totally get where you’re coming from. But you’re absolutely right it’s gonna be a lot better if you delete it and re-create it, and then on the opposite side you do have to manually start the array in the opposite direction, there isn’t a mirror tool-yet… But using array and snapping it will end up perfectly mirrored. Thanks so much for commenting, and I appreciate you sharing your experience, keep up the great work! 🙌💜

how do i remove the background noise from a world preset? there's no sound object...
@Vidyuu
@Vidyuu 2 жыл бұрын
This is a very interesting problem, I have never heard of a world having a background sound without there being a sound or music gizmo located somewhere. Perhaps look around in build mode underneath the world as well as above the world… You might also try using the large selection tool. That’s when you press down on your index trigger and while holding you can thumb stick to the right to enlarge the selection tool size. If there are a lot of creations in your world, try looking inside of the creations…

I think if they made build mode easier on horizon then more people would want to play it. The controls in building are difficult and it's hard to turn and zoom in. Objects get stuck and you can no longer grab them, it's just too much. building games use to be so easy but now their more difficult, which will keep a lot of people from wanting to play it.
