This IS AN EXCELLENT 3 part series! Thank you! As another has commented, very easy to understand and contains the information we need to setup!

Thank you for this video. The 16 part series left a lot to be desired. Your hands on showing what the adjustments actually do to the plane clears up a lot of questions.... well done.

I’ve been using the AS3X 7350 in two nitro planes for a while. Love the as3x system and I find it’s a breeze to setup on my iPhone with Bluetooth. One thing that some may not be aware of is that there is an 8 channel on the 7350 or a 10th channel on the 9350 which is AUX 3. It’s considered a “ghost” channel and I use it to control my three way toggle switch for flight modes. This keeps the 7 channel ports on the 7350 open for servos or as I use an optical CDI ignition kill switch on the 7th channel with my plane with flaps.

I agree this video is helpful. It got me closer to bright but I still had to call Horizon and speak with a tech support person. I'm glad I did as my specific issues could not have been solved without expert help. The system is impressive when it works, but getting it to work can be a challenge. If you are stuck and fighting with the software as I was, call for help.

Brilliant. Ali does such a good job of conveying these concepts. Have to laugh when I see all of the old school guys raging against this tech. They must enjoy rebuilding planes more than they enjoy flying them.

Hi, I am programming my ar636. When I set it up with telemetry in the transmitter so that I can adjust the gains during the flight am I able to use the roller knob for this. I have a DX8 it only adjust the gains with the roller wheel, not the knob. If you know please let me know. thanks

With the original silver case DX8 the gain can be adjusted from the Knob. In function mode go to the Mix Menu and select knob as the master and whatever channel is selected in the AR636 to adjust gain as the mix to channel. @@horizonhobby I'd say that most of us that really want to program the AS3X in a responsible way have seen John's videos many times. A couple sayings for you to consider. First, Easier said than done. Second, a little knowledge is dangerous. Understanding the concepts is not a problem, executing them is. A demonstration at the field by one of the guys that actually determines the gains in flight for the different planes would go a LONG way in calming our nerves in trying to do the same thing. The DX9 is capable of 5 flight modes for air and 10 for sail planes. I imagine that it's similar to the other DX transmitters. I really hope you guys can do this for all of us nimrods out here.

When you are talking about heading rate on the rudder, what if you mix the ailerons and the rudder together so the rudder moves when the aileron stick is moved in a turn. Will the heading on the rudder stop the turn or will both surfaces then work together?

We will send this to the Spektrum team and see what their response is. Stay tuned! - Kyle

That's a good question Francis. I was wondering the same thing.
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 5 жыл бұрын
Okay, so if you do the aileron to rudder mix in the transmitter, anytime the aileron or the rudder stick is moved, heading hold will turn off on both Roll and Yaw. If the mixing is done in the application the input for aileron will only turn off roll and the input for rudder will only turn off the yaw heading gain.
@bernfranfrancis3012
@bernfranfrancis3012 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick reply and your answer is as I suspected, but wanted someone else to confirm. I remember one of the club members putting in Yaw Heading in programing and as you said in the video, it just kept flying straight when he gave input to the ailerons, crashing the plane. So from your answer then by programing/using heading rate/hold in both Yaw and Roll and then mixing in the transmitter you have the best of both worlds.

Is it possible to play with AS3X programming on an AS3X enabled plane (like Timber X) inside RF9?

Ok so im setting up a as3x receiver when I get home is the heading gain will it work like safe and hold were I set the plane at its for an fpv build on a timber 1.5
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. Heading hold is NOT safe. Heading hold will attempt to keep the plane "heading" a specific direction. Also, if you were to change from a non-heading hold flight mode to one that has heading hold (during flight), the plane would then lock into that position and try to remain "heading" that way.

Now having dived in to my new AS3X receiver one thing I'd like to see - As I am understanding it, the dual rate function on the app is linked to the Flight Modes. These I think should be unlinked. Like, maybe you want to fly with the AS3X disabled, say flight mode 1, but still take advantage of dual rates on a different switch. So I'm setting up dual rates on my transmitter and will have that on a different switch and set the gains and priority on the app. so far it seems to work ok and not cause a problem, but it is a little weird.....

Steve, yes, but only if you are using one remote receiver. If you have two remote receivers plugged in, it basically "shorts" the system.

Hello HH. This series is nice BUT it would be even nicer if you could do a similar series based on using the PC instead of the app. (You may have heard that the app is REALLY problematic and does not work well. Everyone I know has ditched the app and uses only their computer.)

So, is heading hold SAFE select
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 3 жыл бұрын
No, but that's a great question. Heading hold doesn't take into account the original flat/level position as a SAFE enabled receiver will. It ONLY accounts for the aircraft position when that flight mode is selected. So, if you are upside down and switch from a non-heading hold flight mode to one with heading hold, it would fight to keep the plane UPSIDE DOWN. Does this make sense?

I happen to think a lot of inexperienced flyers not familiar with these 'helper' systems consider them as anti-crash devices. Gyro systems are not a substitute for learning proper flying technique. There is your disclaimer.

The relationship between Tx and Rx is NOT clear. On an AR636 for example, what IS a six channel rx? how many actual channels exist ? six ? can you run six active channels plus Flight Mode plus Gain adjustment ? How do you run flight modes from the tx ? which channel ? why is there apparently no facility to upgrade the apps ? I'm running an early version because there seems to be NO upgrade option. Lots of questions and for some reason I am getting NO ANSWERS. BTW, I'm a fan of AS3X, more or less the only one at my club, but I can't sell the benefits of the system because there is still so much that I don't understand and there seems to be very little support or education. The 'manual' supplied with new receivers is insultingly basic, and utterly FAILS to explain obviously vital questions. There should be a downloadable book by now. Are people actually being paid for sitting on their hands? I've invested in several of these receivers and am... frustrated shall we say.

Basically you have an AS3X off flight mode, a mild AS3X flight mode, and an aggressive AS3X flight mode. There isn't much to show detailing it.
