Spektrum AS3X Step 15: Relative Gain Settings (Final Model Setup)

After a hiatus since 2010, I’m just starting to get back into the hobby!!! As such, watching these AS3X videos has REALLY GOT ME SO LOST!!!! I used to just fly and have fun. Now, it seems we have to be dead steady or everyone will be thinking I don’t know how to fly, which is basically true and why I will be flying alone until I get good enough to where I’m not laughed off the runway once my plane gets airborne!!!!

I've had to watch these videos several times, then fly, then watch again in order to understand all the ins and outs of AS3X. But once I was able to tune the Rx gains my plane flies beautifully: nice and stable.

At 4:30, he says "nothing's changing", but the GAIN value in the lower left corner of the screen above INPUT: L Trim is indeed changing. What does that GAIN value mean? Thanks.

im really struggling to understand this set up I have the pc programm which is hard work I have the Bluetooth cable but wont connect to my android phone I would not bother with the hassle of setting up the as3x if I wasent crashing as much as I do

I also have the DX8 Gen 2 and am not able to select input switch. The cursor just skips over it. The input switch is on "roller" and again I can't highlight this setting so for now roller is the only switch option.

I had the same issue with DX8G2. I've since upgraded to the DX9 and now that selection highlights as in the video.

Hay Jon what should the heading gain be at ballpark? I have my AS3x gain set at 40-50-60 but did not set the heading gain so I don’t have any movement on the control.

Heading gain can be pretty sensitive and it is hard to give a suggestion without first knowing more about the model. I would suggest starting at 10% and moving up 1% at a time until you feel it is doing what you want it to.

Hi, I have a question. Hope you can help me. Does the AR636B have the ability to use SAFE technology? I’ve been trying to get information online and it’s quite confusing among all different versions (a,b,h, etc). I read somewhere that different firmware can be flashed to according to each versions and therefore activate SAFE. Bottom line is I have a AR636B and would like to know if by any chance I can use panic button, SAFE technology. Sorry for the long text and thanks for your help.

I have an AR 7350 on a Stuka with a DLE 20. I have fixed gear so Port 5 is my Tech Aero IBEC and i have a total of 4 Flaps so i have two on Port 6 and two on Port 7. I have my engine kill(Port 5 Tech Aero) assigned to my bind button so i can kill the engine from my DX9. On switch G i have 3 flight modes High rates position 1 no AS3X active , Low rates position 2 no AS3X active and position 3 i have low rates plus AS3X active. Since all my channels are used is it possible to still add TX gain control on the right trim switch or would i need a RX with more than 7 channels? Port 1 - Throttle Port 2 - Aileron Port 3 - Elevator Port 4 - Rudder Port 5 - Tech Aero Ibec Port 6 - Flaps Port 7 - Flaps

I am glad i got mine free when i bought my dx7, the phone programming software is really buggy, the relative factor doesn't work on the DX7, well, it has an option, it just doesn't work. I found another bug on the DX7 and tried to report it, they don't care. Very disappointing.

yes, it doesnt work BUT you can program a mix,and work perfectly

I've also had to watch the videos several times, fly, and then re-program. As nearly as I can tell the stabilization system does not work at all, I'm doing something wrong. I've probably spent thirty hours trying to get one receiver to work and am not there yet. I don't even know what to ask.

How can I use the dual elevator with as3x, only the elevator channel works, the auxiliary does not work with as3x, how can I solve this?

Depending on the receiver, it needs to be programmed into the receiver for this to work. I can help point you in the right direction if you can provide more detail :)

Ok thanks! My radio didn't come with a receiver or cord to use the App so is this all programmable on the radio itself? My kid is only here till Sunday and it's taken 3 days and I'm still not sure I understand how to program this to fly the Timber I bought for him.. there was no quick start guide like this series says to get the QR code from either and I can't figure out how to set dual rates to a switch or set the rates so I can fly. I'm new to this electric stuff too and not sure how long to fly with this 2800 mah battery but, I'm guessing till it pulses

The Timber comes programmed if you bought the BNF version. No need to program the RX. The radio is super simple to setup for this model. Essentially just setup the flaps and you are good to go. Also I can get you a preset if you want. Hit us up on FB messenger and I can send you one.

Det biggest problem now is that Spektrum ignores the fact that the App doesn't work for most android users. I cant even download it. I have to send my AS3X back..

Works OK on my Samsung Galaxy S5. Also, works fine via USB connection to my Win7 laptop.

This seems really over complicated to me why not just have it program from the transmitter the device programing though the audio port sucks. I could understand if you had something which had sophisticated programming but to just set some gains.

It's the little "+" and "-" rocker switch on the immediate left side of the DX9 label in the center. Mine literally says "L Trim" right on the TX. LOL

Mordem Tasci - nope, RELATIVE gains I.e. adjusting them in flight needs a compatible radio, gains per se do not. If you don’t have a suitable radio use the flight mode switches. Using the app connected to the Receiver, Set FM1 to zero gains, and then set FM2 and FM3 to two levels of gain, say 30% and 50%. Take off in FM1 and then switch to FM2 and FM3 in flight. If either oscillates switch back to FM1. Land and lower the gains. If neither oscillates then the gains can be set higher, etc. Much longer winded then using relative in flight but not exactly a deal breaker is it. P.S. if you cannot set gains or make changes with the app, you may have an AR636A I.e. a preprogrammed one out of an eFlight plane, those often cannot be reprogrammed to other models.

The average guy that flys RC is not an expert at computers. This stuff is far beyond most of them, making having gyros and the "smart" products impossible for them to use. I am sure it is disappointing for the fliers that would like to have some of the new technology. I couldn't find anyone to help me, other modelers, hobby store owners, even members of my club. I bought an AS3X receiver and ended up putting it back in the box and not using it, because no one could program it.
