This is a tutorial on how to use a horn tap when installed and programmed by Code 1 Solutions
When installed, we take the vehicle's existing horn, and wire it through the siren this way you can control the horn's function directly from the siren keypad.
By default the horn is a regular horn (customer preference, can be changed in programing)
Horn Siren: vehicle's horn acts as a momentary siren
Hands Free: vehicle's horn acts as a hands free siren. 1 press to turn on, another press to go to the next siren tone, another press to go to the next siren tone, etc. To turn it off, double tap the horn.
Switching between horn siren to hands free, or back from hands free to horn siren, one will shut the other off.
With the hands free button on, if you activate a siren tone from the keypad, you will deactivate the hands free button.
Siren: Whelen HHS3200
Vehicle: 2020 Honda Pilot

Love your work. Especially on vehicles that are not made for emergency use, especially this Honda Pilot!

Do you do engineering work on Federal Signal Corporation, or do you only stick to Whelen? Our department only ever has Federal Signal since I’ve only worked uniform division for over 35 years, I remember that even the cars we used at the academy for training were only equipped with FSC. Some colleagues that worked for other Police, Sheriffs, Constables Office used Whelen, GE, Sound off, etc. But our department has about 2800 officers, and I’m not sure how many marked Police cars, but they always outfit with the bare minimum on our patrol cars, because we only have a minimal light bar headlights & taillights wigwag switch & dual tone 200 watt Federal Signal from our last patrol cars Probably back about 20 years. But because our agency only buys from Federal, at least they started to replace all overheads with LEDs only about in 2010? About 10 years after even small & tiny departments all used LED & top line WHELEN , Federal, Soundoff etc etc.. All our detectives cars are old patrol cars with 100K miles, only about 5 years ago they purchased Ford Police Tarus sedans, and they actually had the least & tiniest engines placed in the cars, but no laptops, and only a metal writing area w/white or red map light, hand held spotlight, halogen red teardrop connected to cigar lighter, front & tail light Federal wig wag, Federal dual tone dual 100 watt Federal sirens about 25 years old. Federal actually re did these sirens about 10 years ago, but I don’t understand why every time we meet other law Enforcement officers at trainings , they want to look at our patrol & detective cars, yet they can’t believe they’re so extremely shallow when it comes to bells & whistles. Even though they buy about 1/2 the fleet because they must change over to knew Police cars once they pass 100K miles. By the way we probably have over 200 administrators that must have at least one supervisor for every 11 officers, but even so they have take home cars & detectives get a take home assigned to 2 detectives, but Admin gets the oldest detectives cars w/out any bells & whistles, even without a mobile Motorola 900MHZ encrypted radio. They do have a charging dock inside the staff cars, but not even tinted windows. So watching all your awesome equipment makes me think about the high-end equipment that others maintain for their officers, our administration justifies it by saying that they are able to purchase many more Police cars when they reuse equipment from cars to be replaced. Thank you for sharing the awesome engineering & methodologies you utilize, I wish our technicians could be taught by you, seemingly they are way behind the times , because they have sent back patrol cars that were worse off when they sent them back to the line.

Ah but we don’t need. In Ph its illegal under the “wang-wang act” Edit: as @Nite pointed out. If it’s a governmental emergency vehicle, it’s legal. But in an ordinary civilian vehicle, it is illegal for you to have emergency lights
@NiteFPS

Its actually not illegal if you are an operator of an emergency vehicle. But if you are pointing out the use of these sirens with ordinary vehicles by civilians it is definitely illegal not just in the PH but everywhere.

In NYC, as a volunteer or paid EMT or paramedic, one is allowed legally to use red lights and sirens just like NYPD, FDNY, and any other ems ambulance in the city and state
