Fred, I use the Hornady "Precision" Hunter 162 grain ELD-X bullets in my Savage 110 7mm Magnum setup for Elk and they shoot with unmatched precision and accuracy! Hornady Custom 154 grain Interlock SP rounds in .277 Winchester for White tail deer in My Ruger No 1. With good accuracy and it delivers. The Hornady Custom Lites 120 grain SST for 41% reduced recoil for my oldest Grandson in the Weatherby Vanguard rifle. Hornady is at the top of the list for quality and bullet design I my book. As a reloader I know Hornady brass is good stuff. BUT, I wonder why their .357 magnum cases are just a smidge shorter (about .002 / .003 inch) than 'standard' other brand cases? Just enough shorter to mess up your crimp zone when loading the bullet. So, I cull all my Hornady cases & when I've got a couple hundred stashed, then I readjust my dies to make the short brass work.

In my CZ-527, 22 Hornet, the Hornady 35-gr VMax factory round, will shoot 3/8" groups all day long. I only wish they would provide it to hand loaders with the cannelure, as the factory loaded round has one. I pulled apart a factory cartridge and found 11.2 grains of what is either H-110 or W-296. My load is the same, but my bullet is smooth sided, and shoots 1/2 inch groups. That's good, I know, but it's not 3/8". Must be that darn cannelure.

@drubradley88213 жыл бұрын
I realize this is an older video, but beings I just now found it. Please allow me to give my 1.5 cents worth of input, not that anybody asked or cares.. But, over the past 31 years, I have sent close to 50,000 to 51,000 Hornady brand ammo in either hunting or screwing around at the ranges, or heck, knocking bottle and soda cans off of fence posts in my back yard. I have yet to ever experience a Hornady round that had an issue, like failure to fire or a dead fire, or a squib issue or over charged double shot filled cartridge, NOT ONCE. I have had issues with a few firearms, either in a pistol or rifle format that caused the ammo to have an issue, but that is not on the ammo shoulders, rather, just my equipment. Even the Hornady rounds that didn't pop off, due from the machine failure, that ammo as clean as it is, always assisted in honing in on the mechanical issue so much easier and faster, by seeing odd scratches, or no firing pin indentation on the primer, or lite primer strike, again, failure of the machine and not the ammo. When I need to be serious, as per, hunting, I grab the Hunting series Hornady stuff or if I am playing with a new machine, and desire to get it dialed in, I grab the Match series ammo. I even trust Hornady over my loaded / reloaded stuff from raw building materials, which doesn't say much about my reloading confidence, (smiley face). Now, I am not saying that somebody else has never had an issue with Hornady's ammo product lines, but, I am just saying, that I have yet to have any or ever an issue. With that stated, other brands of ammo, and the list is long, form the few name branded ammo manufacturers, that are made in my beloved United States of America, and not to exclude the 20 to 30 foreign ammo manufacturers from all over the world, that I have either tried or currently still use, but all of those, I have had uncountable issues. To add to the numbers game show I am explaining, of the other brands, foreign and domestic ammo brands, (the last I documented that I remember from a few months ago), I have shoot approx 140,500 rounds of other brands of ammo in that 31. That does not include reloaded ammo, by me or other private loaders / reloaders which are vet'd and trusted by me. My data base has segregated all rim fire sent ammo, it is counted, but not for this example I am explaining. The .22 rim fire numbers is just a count, and not really any point in going nuts over, so I never added them to the primary database, this is only for center fire cartridges that I have sent only. PLEASE NOTE. unless you know the person doing loading/reloading, it is highly recommended that you do not do that. Especially if you do not know that person. It is dangerous, and costly if things go left on you, so do not do that. But, I have two buddy's, who load and reload, with a measure of OCD 5 times what I have and I have worked side by side with them while loading/reloading for 20 years, so, my example is the exception to the rules, out side of the normal. DO NOT USE SOMEBODY ELSE'S SELF LOADED or RELOADED AMMO, unless you are factually/highly certain they are secure and confident in their skill set and attention to detail and love you enough to never slack off a second or ever doubt that their knowledge and skill set is on point. Please be careful. Also, Please note, I am not talking bad about those other ammo manufactures at all, as I fully understand and highly respect that it is just how things go, or rather, to say: "IT HAPPENS" and not a huge deal to me. I keep the failed round(s) and when I get a five gallon bucket full of failed to fire rounds, I will sort, disassemble each caliber as groups, by size, brand, etc., then analyze each group, by blue printing every aspect dimensionally upon the shell case, projectile type & gr weight, powder type, and many other reasons. I do that just to look for a pattern or issue of the construction process. May sound time consuming, but, I find it relaxing and peaceful to do that, plus, I do it on a spread sheet, entering all the data collected. Can then graph out charts... blah..blah..blah.. you get the point, just a touch of OCD. I run the powder through my mass spectrometer and do a few burn off metering, gasification collection onto a scrubber, while other measuring tools are checking the temp during the testing. Some day, I would enjoy the use of one of those super duper high speed video camera that does something like a few million frames per second to add to the database, (more OCD). Then I rebuild that group with often times with the same building parts that came apart, other then the primer. Now, all of that, and the only Hornady in the database is of the loaded cartridges from new raw building components or reloaded shells with new parts. But none of the "failure to fire" database has any info from the Hornady brand.. For a guy with a case of OCD issues, that is kind of a "double edged sward sward". No, I don't want any of Hornady's ammo product lines in my database of "failure to fire", but my list/database is missing that information.. LOL. Okay, now that I just showed the world my silliness and OCD issues, I will leave you all to it. Enjoy your 2nd Amendment, and practice being safe, ALL the time. Do your best to learn something new at least once a day.

The factory may be state of the art and the components may be A1 quality but that is window dressing. I bought two boxes of 38 SPL 158 GR ammo to practice with in my Henry rifle. The 7th round I fired did not have powder in the round which resulted in a round lodged in the barrel. I went to Hornad's Web page and found that there was no way to contact customer service and no phone number to call. What I did find was that other lots of Hornady ammo had been recalled for that very resson. So I wrote them a letter asking about returning the 2 boxes I purchased for a refund. I sent the letter two weeks ago and have not gotten any sort of response. Perhaps Hornady is quality in advertising only. What do you think?
