Hornbeck Boats - New Tricks 13 - My First Paddle - Review - Impressions - Compared to Classic - HD4K

One morning while perusing Facebook Marketplace I happened to see a listing not to far from my house. It said "Hornbeck Kayak" and for a moment I was slightly confused. Scanning thru the pictures I began to realize what I was actually looking at was a near mint New Tricks 13 and it was just a stone's throw away from me. I quickly realized how good my day was about to get! This video depicts my first paddle with the boat. It contains mostly paddle footage and I give my honest first impressions of the boat. I also highlight the exact specifications of my NT13 and how is contrasts with the "Classic" model in both design and material.

I went up to Olmsteadville, NY this past spring to Hornbeck Boats. I tried some different boats in their pond, they were very helpful, informative and genuinely friendly and nice to work with. I picked out a New Tricks 14' and put down a deposit, They called my one month later in June and I drove up there to pick up my boat. I have used it all summer this year on both salt and fresh water, coves, lakes and rivers. I did a week long camping trip in my Hornbeck and I use it frequently for day trips as well. it's a great boat, I love it. I also bought a Werner paddle and it is worth it! thx for sharing!

I purchased a new tricks 14’ but found it was too unstable for paddling with my dog and also for fishing in. I returned for a 14’ classic which feels quite big but after a trip or two with the dog and landing some fish it really feels like I made the right choice. To each his own but I feel the new tricks boats aren’t really for fishing. By the way…the cherry trim is gorgeous in my very humble opinion. Also, they make the classics in the carbon kevlar green color now.

I wouldn’t recommend a NT for paddling with a dog but fishing out of them is no problem in my opinion. Glad you like your Hornbeck!

How would you compare to any kayaks you have owned as far as the oaddling exoerience goes?

Very similar to my Perception Carolina 13.5
