Take me home, to the place I belong......Thanks for this - I began, in about 1960 with the 0-6-0 green tank goods set. That little engine ran and ran and ran, until eventually it simple fell to pieces. Last year I managed to reassemble both the green sets. Bliss. Thank you.

With all of those beautiful trainsets, how did HD not come out on top. Triang was a distant second for quality.

2016! Yes, that was my first electric set. And, I just bought it again. Found a set right here in Australia, in box with all parts and tracks, and complete. So totally chuffed to find that. It will be the set I pass onto my daughter, it will be our family's legacy.

Great video, takes me back to 1962/3 when I had a Deltic set for my 13th birthday including 2/11d return (15p) train fare to Cuttriss's model shop at Doncaster to collect it! I remember that Saturday afternoon well, they were playing the delayed FA Cup final late in the year after the very severe winter, most people were indoors watching the match on TV making for a quiet Saturday. I'm not rivet counting but it didn't have the Royal Scot name boards which was incorrect in the set shown anyway as the Deltics were only running on the ECML. Meccano must have been scaling down production by then and maybe missed out the name boards through lack of stock or to save some production cost. Oh boy what happy memories from 60 years ago. Thank you so much for posting this.

I gotta say, as someone who collects model trains from all over the world, Hornby Dublo/Wrenn locos are easily some of the most beautifully well made models I've come across. They're built like actual tanks; you can't seem to kill them!

Ah.......! Brings back so many happy memories as a small boy, scouring the HD catalogue choosing the next Christmas or birthday present! I got the Talisman set and I’ve still got the loco and coaches. Still runs sweetly. Thanks for publishing this.

yes the catalogues were great viewing and added to the excitement as Christmas or birthday approached, your Talisman shows how well made the Dublo train sets are - as they say on the box realistic reliable and guaranteed!

Beautiful train sets. Unfortunately it was too little, too lat. I had had 10 years of 3-rail by this time and to switch was not going to happen. I loved my Hornby-Dublo and I have most of my 3-rail equipment to this day, but never kept up the hobby in adulthood (now 77). Thanks for the memories though.

I think Hornby Dublos demise was the price compared to Triang, who didn't want HD??? It was 1959 and my big brother who was,10 took me train spotting, we used to go to Harringay and see the A4s running. On the way home was a roy shop with a huge triang and HD model railway, I always wanted Golden Fleeces with the crimson and cream coaches?

yes that was indeed a factor in the demise of Hornby Dublo. A belief held by the executives that a quality product would sell regardless of price and lack of a proper strategy towards the competition such as Triang in a changing toy market all contributed to the sale of the Meccano company to Triang in 1964.
