HORNBY | GWR, Class 802/1 Train Pack - Era 11 (R3967)

British Rail Class 802 AT300 trains are bi-mode multiple-unit passenger trains built by Hitachi for Great Western Railway, Hull Trains and TransPennine Express Trains.

Based on the design of the Hitachi A-train, Class 802s are part of the Hitachi AT300 product family. Each train operating company has provided a distinguishing livery and brand, in the case of GWR, units are branded ‘IET’s or ‘Intercity Express Trains’. This Pack contains 5 of the 9 units that make up a Class 802/1 unit. The additional 4 coaches are available separately as part of coach pack R40351.

Would be great if it worked out of the box, the loco is not capable of hauling the whole 9 coach train even after lubricating the wheels and adding weights to the power car. I look forward to your response to my email regards to receiving a product which is not fit for purpose and how you plan to fix this “ready to run” model. I have posted a video on my KZbin channel so you can see the issue first hand.

That is most disappointing, I was considering getting the nine car train and coach pack. Is this a defect or the design. MY Hornby 225 can easily haul 9 coaches and more.

Don't get me wrong, hornby, your 800s look great and all, but who has £500 to through at one 5 car train?

Same person with £470ish quid to spend on an accurascale 37 and 5 MK2s ? Its all about the same price y'know. £170 for the loco, 5x£60 for the coaches bump this up to £570 to get sound which is very much what this 5 car unit costs with sound 🤷‍♂️ Same person with £495 to spend on an accurascale class 31 and 5 suburban Mk1s? Same person with the £455 to get themselves a rapido GWR 44XX sound fitted with 2 B set carriages isn't far off getting a 5 coach train... Same person with £460 to get a cavalex class 56 and two 3 packs of TEA wagons isn't. (None sound DCC class 56 by the way, you want bells and whistles then jack that up to £560) Same person with £500 for a new tooled bachmann 25 and 5 mk1 coaches from them as well. You fancy a rake of 5 Heljan IWB cargo wagons and I dunno, a class 47 or class 86 to pull them. RRP that'll be shockingly, about £500. You fancy a Dapol large prarie with DCC sound and 5 toplight carriages? That'll be £638 at RRP. A new dapol 14XX without sound and 2 autocoaches to accompany it? Why that'll be about £530 for analogue £565 for DCC and £640 for sound fitted if purchased at RRP for 1 small tank engine and 2 carriages which to put it in perspective for just £3 more you could get a 5 car set of coronation coaches and a sound fitted main range A4 from hornby (2 articulated coronation sets at £140, obseration car £75, A4 £218, DCC decoder pack with speaker £70 = £643) looking at all this it would appear the big rip off of british modelling is actually Dapol 🤔 Really, this isn't a particularly costly model for a 5 coach set. Looking at the big picture. If you go back and run the numbers using old pricing data and wage statistics for the last sorta 20 years about a weeks wage for the lowest full time earner in the economy is pretty normal for a train of this size of relatively recent tooling and that's about where this sits today, it costs roughly a week of minimum wage work taxes aside. But 🤫 don't let the youtubers know this it'll stop them talking up the price for the click bait value of seeing them get indignant about it.

It looks awful negotiating the curves why all the gaps between the carriages & wobbling with stuttering,surely they can see the issues or don't they care.

​@trainskitsetc exactly like you say I would of thought that radius 4 would be a better one for a starter set "train set" as most people run it on the floor so space isn't much of a concern and then the trains would run better and look more visually appealing even if they used 3rd radius
