Hornby HM7000/6000 loco sounds are amazing but are they as good as the 1983 Hornby sound Generator?

The hot topic at the moment appears to be the Hornby Hm7000 decoder and the associated sounds that load to it, so I thought it would be fun to walk back 40 years and look at the Hornby sounds of 1983.
lets compare the sounds on the latest app to those 'authentic' sounds of the Hornby sound generator.

The worry is, back then it wasn't bad, as a youngster in the 80's I loved the sound generator......

Credit where it's due, the old beepers doesn't sound too far off from a peanut-style whistle or a diesel two-tone. Digital sounds can be amazing, but I get just as much enjoyment out of the electromechanical air whistle I have in a little building beside the tracks on my layout as I do piping in sounds over a bluetooth speaker or running a modern sound-fitted loco.

I've recently got one of these but when linked and wired correctly to the track it causes a short circuit and the loco fails to move unless its disconnected.

Oh that's a shame, I guess some sort of short inside, the adjuster on my one no longer works, probably the age.

Have you tried a Bluetooth cube speaker with the hm6000? Runs behind the loco and gives almost on board sound.

@@dustyshelfcollectables I'm dc only as just too much stock to convert. The hm6000 is not bad but slightest short like a triang loco over insulfrog points trips it whereas a gaugemaster can take that momentory spark etc. Plus as with the hm7000 you fmdont get the feel of a control knob. If you could get a Bluetooth handheld with a proper knob I'd be keen to explore it more.

Brilliant. I prefer the old but I am old. I like the simple tone generator, playing a sample from a phone is meh, anyone can do that. But some electronics for a tone generator? Pure magic voodoo.

@@dustyshelfcollectables I love all of the old Triang stuff. More imaginative and better for play than what we have today. Anyway, great channel!
