Your not wrong, but they changed it because the half sleeper used to regularly snap, owing to rough treatment, as they were designed to be taken apart regularly when the the carpet was needed for foot traffic!

Ah, happy days. The loop of track on the carpet and the inevitable moment either a parent or a pet would enter the room and not looking where they're going, step onto the rails.

I guess compromises are inevitable with set track, I’ve settled for Kato and got used to it’s foibles. But it strikes me if someone combined the half sleeper approach of System 6 with the built-in ballast of the Kato design any fragility would be gone and you’d have the best of both worlds.

Steve, You've hit the nail on the head. I'm actually surprised that Kato didn't adopt that design in the first place as it seems obvious really. Who knows, maybe one day one of the track manufacturers will actually do it.

@@JAMESDEMU-RailwayModeller Actually, I've just been painting rail on some Kato concrete track sections and noticed they do indeed have half sleepers!

Ah, well then@@capitallinesI didnt know they did that. Im assuming theyve adjusted their tooling and my bits must be older so still have the 'double sleeper' undervthe joints appearance. I'll look out for what you've got in the future.

@@JAMESDEMU-RailwayModeller Don't expect too much, the range seems to be a mix. Most of my concrete sleepered Kato has half sleepers, apart from the longest double straights which still give double sleepers. As far as I can tell, all the wooden sleepered track still matches your samples. I'll stop now, before I write a thesis :)

Thank you. Just a shame system six uses steel rail otherwise I imagine it would still be one of the most popular choices for set track amongst those who use it.

Try ebay. I got that one years ago from a now closed model shop. There's usually quite a lot available on ebay and they're not expensive.
