These have loads of potential. For small layouts as they are, and I have kitbashed them into fairly repectable old time Irish six-wheelers. Some people also permanetly couple them to small wheelbase locos and add pick-ups to the wheels to get over dead frog points. Loads of oppertunity in them.

Thanks for your comment! I will first look into changing the D-couplers but maybe also search on how to lower the wagons. Making them a bit lower will make them look better I think.

These fantasy carriages originate from the mid 1970s and have been produced up to today in many different liveries - I tried cataloguing the different styles but found it very hard to list them all. I have quite a few of these, the most common colours are what you have, a kind of GWR livery. R016 refers to a Triang BR Brake van - I think that original chassis was made to create these coaches. There is a track cleaning version which uses a lower and more proportionate chassis - some articles online talk about making this conversion. In any case, they are perfect for a small tight radius layout!

Hi Ben, thanks for all the interesting information! I have seen old pictures of comparable 2-axle coaches with four compartments, but indeed these two seem to be a fantasy and a toy instead of an accurate model. I don't really care as they fit very well on my mini layout. I am still waiting for the roof of the building here to be changed. When that will be done I can find a more permanent place for the two layouts and probably make a loose connection between them so trains could take a bit more if a run and bring passengers from the USSR to the UK or back 😊

@@ben222b Yes, That neighbourhood was called Moscou after a Russian regiment that came to fight Napoleon (I had to consult Wikipedia, I thought the social soviet style buildings there were the reason of the name). I think the real Moscow is a bit prettier though 🙂

Hi, Erik! The little wagons are nice, quite classy for a toy-ish alike vehicle. I don't know what to say about couplings, I have not any idea, sorry. Regarding the height of the base.... maybe replacing the wheels with some of a smaller diameter would lower it a little? Supposing your wagons have some large diameter... (If you have even 9 or 10 mm plastic ones, you could try a bit) Anyway, good acquisition for the British layout, thanks for sharing! / Chris

One option is to make a converter wagon with Hornby D Tension Lock Coupling at one end and whatever coupling you want at the other end. Tri-ang brought out a couple of versions of these to link to Hornby Dublo rolling stock in the mid 60's. R.578 and R.577A. I seem to remeber that the couplings were screwed on? A cheap Tri-ang Hornby break car would complete the set. Happy Modelling

Thank you for the information. What type of break car would go best with a small passenger train? Does it have to be a brake coach or could it be a brake van as for a freight train? Greetings from Belgium 🙋♂Erik

They are great little coaches indeed. I think they are based on 4 compartment 2-axle coaches.

Hi Erik, these are quite good for your English layout and would not need lowering if being pulled by a 00 Loco. Fitting European couplings should be fairly easy for you once the D couplers are removed as your good at modifying rolling stock. I agree with you that adding some weight will improve them. Cheers, Paul. 👍👍🙏

@@railway187 Hi Erik, I am bidding on 3 of these 4 wheel coaches in British Southern Railways green. that will give me a total of 5 to run on my urban line. I also have these in LMS Maroon but changed the wheels to Lima ones as they kept derailing. Thats a good idea to add compartments and interior as you make close ups of your trains they will look very nice. I hope your vision is much better now. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏

@@paulvozman842 My vision is rather bad, but I have heard it can take over a month for it to be stabilised. So probably nothing to worry about. I have to start working again next week, that might be a challenge. I am looking forward to seeing your new coaches!

I'll show you how you could replace the D-rings with fixed European couplers in a video with one of my modified toy range Jouef goods wagons. I'm also wondering how we could make an adapter, to avoid having to change these British couplings.

Если такие вагоны были распространены в Европе, почему бы им не существовать в Британии?

Но это не моя эпоха, и к ним нужны соответсвующие эпохе локомотивы. какие-то безкабинные открытые паровозы на огромных колесах)))
