(1973-75) with the R.229
Pullman Cars that Hornby Railways initially introduced to the catalogue in 1974.
All dates approximate.

Thanks Oscar for a fantastic running session with a look at the various Pullman cars, and the gloss green Oliver Cromwell looked gorgeous. It must take a lot of time to set up and film a session like this with so many models running so thank you again, it really is appreciated.

Morning Peter great to hear you enjoyed all the running in the video. Just takes a little time to get everything set up and running as you want it, clean wheels, couplings adjusted, clean track. The Dublo track needs more upkeep than the series 3 and very rewarding when it all behaves once the camera switched on. All the best. Oscar

Got Olly new in 75, still have him. He’s pulled 24 coaches round the club layout easily, and could have taken more if we had them. That motor with 6 traction tyres is a monster combination.

Morning Stephen, terrific to hear you still have your original model from back in 75, it was a great motor and wheel/tyre combination on the handful models they fitted it to in that brief period, quite a bit of cutting to follow. All the best. Oscar

Good morning Oscar What a superb video you have presented us with today. Pullmans, what could be better than rakes of Pullman cars, the noise in your train room must have been deafening combined with the beautiful smell of carbon brushes arcing on the electric motors. This video must have taken a great deal of setting up and is definitely one of your very best! Thank you! 😊 David

In 2018 it was the Pullman Coaches ( IBIS & Car 93) along with the Tornado Engine that rekindled my current intrest in model railway.; I would like to get a third coach but I am wary about the chances of a clour match / clash. But even a short rake of just two looks great acelerating out of curve. Marvellous.

I only have two Hornby Pullman coaches of 1970's era. I have always questioned their makers since they have no makers markings until now since they were purchased unboxed.

Morning Oscar . Great video playing trains . Love it . £10.45 probably is the initial price of Oliver Cromwell . I got mine at Christmas 1975 , she still runs well. I do remember the Black 9F was £9.95 and Evening Star and Oliver Cromwell were a bit more expensive ! In these days 50p was probably a weeks pocket money . You are correct on Pullman colours . I think they did vary batch on batch . I have a Lucille that is almost orange ! By mid 80s it seemed to have settled down to proper umber and cream and maybe the lining changed too . It was the time they had the Orient Express .

Gosh Oscar, I was so overcome watching all of those trains that I almost forgot to comment? What a wonderful running session.. So many terrific trains all running at once? I have no idea where to start, so I'll just say WOW !!! Thank you for showing us all of these.. (Blue Pullman included.. Although, I think that you are right? It is the loudest train on the layout today)?

Morning Oscar, you were indeed a noisy article today with all those trains running at once lol. Great to see all the different Pullman variations, amazing how many detail differences there are between them. Another variation on the theme would be the original Graham Farish Pullmans, different details again on those. Did you notice that the photograph of the "New" Lucille parlour car in the '74 catalogue is actually a mock up using the original Tri-ang model re-worked? This was possibly due to the model being still in development as the catalogue went to print, subsequent issues illustrating to correct version. I have one of the first issues of "Lucille" still sealed in it's box from new, along with another that has seen some track time. Another enjoyable start to Sunday, Regards to you and Roberta from deepest Glawwwwwsterrrr.

Great video this morning Oscar, that 7mt Oliver Cromwell a very nice locomotive, I actually have the silver seal model myself of Oliver Cromwell myself, those pullmans looked great running with it, one thing I will say though is it’s a bit strange for me seeing the older pullman coaches at the moment because recently one of my new additions was a rake of the later hornby pullmans that all have the light up table lamps when power is applied to the track. Great video and running session overall here Oscar, keep up the great work.

Hi Oscar. I used to have some of the 1980's Pullmans, which ran on plastic wheels with the rims picked out in white. I now have four of the current Hornby Pullmans with lighting. They are a bit too heavy for some of my older locomotives and are happiest on 3rd radius curves, and they highlight any stretch of track which is not as level as it should be. So I have to employ double-heading or a banker! Reminds me of Exeter St Davids station, when the Merchant Navy which had brought the Atlantic Coast Express from Waterloo, was replaced by a light pacific, which needed a banker to take the ACE on to the west. Kindest regards.

Enjoyable running session. You've got it all running very smoothly with no dodgy point motors to spoil the fun! I would like to suggest you operate the layout to a timetable with station announcements instead of having it all run around aimlessly! Thanks for uploading.

Hi Oscar thank you for another lovely video. The “compensated” bogie on the Hornby Dublin Pullman is a Gresley (LNER) design and dates that model to between 61 and 63, the BR bogies are on HD Pullmans from 63 to 65. Aries incidentally is a Kitchen first whereas the Hornby models of the types you’ve shown are all either parlour or parlour brake types. As so much of the Pullman experience, so I am only told sadly, is about the dining with 1 kitchen car to every 3 parlour or brake cars in a typical train it’s a surprise that Hornby didn’t make another kitchen car till 2002.

Thanks Oscar, the Pullmans are fascinating, my Hornby coaches date from the early 90's and have the name transfer options, including the brake coach, they did have white rimmed plastic wheels but I have changed them all for silver seal and they run better, I have several of the Golden Arrow coaches, which are lovely, I run these with a Wrenn blue grey brake and a couple of their blue grey parlour coaches. It's a good thing Wrenn continued production of the Hornby Dublo Pullmans, they really broadened the range, with various name options, including the Brighton Belle, they are such good looking coaches.

Hi Oscar, Lovely Running Sesh, tho it Sounded like it Gave you a Bit of A Workout 😁- I’ve Decided my Layout needs some Pullmans and they Have taken my interest recently, with some Quite Amazing Quality Models Available but with a Price-tag to Match, tho I’m sure there will be some to suit my needs. OC looks Fab in the Gloss Finish and Great to See Long Rakes at Pace on the Layout. Thanks for Posting 👍🏻

Massive fun as always Oscar. The Dublo pullmans with the compensated bogies came in one of the West country sets with 34005 and 3 pullmans plus track possibly , and were actually based on Gresley's bogie design for the LNER. Not sure if they were available as singles though. Might look nice behind an A4 pacific?

The box for R233 is wrong as it can't be a Pullman brake first. It's actually Pullman brake third. On first class have names. Third class Pullman's were all Car XXX with numbers.

The newer modern Pullman coaches are a lot better, because the lamps inside light up. I hate Western Courier with a vengeance, wish he'd been kept hidden from view. I don't like the Midland Pullman train either. You'd do better to replace him with a BR Blue & Grey HST from the same era, which is more my style. If you can smell a steamy's motor, it's a bad sign. This leads to smoke coming from the motor, which is not good. Take care the motor doesn't explode when the steamy is running. Time for a full upgrade to Hornby, Bachmann, Dapol and other manufacturers, who make better and longer-lasting models, except Heljan. Hornby are slipping slightly, but do give the models a try. Tender-driven models are on the way out, they don't run as well as they used to.

It is Oscar’s railway, not yours. Who cares what you hate. I collect Lionel trains ,some of which are over 100 years old. I can’t stand today’s trains but I’m not going to tell you not to enjoy your trains.

I need to keep an eye out for exploding motors! The thing is these models have already lasted 50 or 60 years and if looked after will probably last indefinitely. As the previous reply said it's each to their own.
