This is the fun side of railway modelling that we need more of. Triple heading with 2 Lord Westwoods leading the pack will surely get the rivet counters fuming.

Hornby charging a 5th of a weeks average income for a loco in a ficticious livery from years old tooling and doing a 10% price hike on it between 1973 and 1974 dropping the plated wheel feature as the price went up to boot... these days that would be a meme on level with the beatles or coke sets. 😂 thank god we didn't have pithy youtube reviewers back then eh. Nice model and layout setup 😊 could have hours of fun with that

The Lord Westwood Set Would have been an Awesome Gift to Receive, everything included to make the Ultimate Train set - I love the Simplicity of the Sound box Tender,and the Contrast of the Complicated and Expensive business of Putting Sound Gizmos into a Locomotives today, to eventually Switch them off when the Novelty dissipates ☺️ Fab Double Header and Power demo. Great episode Many Thanks 👍🏻

Yes Oscar, I had the same problem with Bristol Castle and WR coaches with Nylon wheelsets. I swapped them out for all metal wheels and it made a huge difference. Actually, the "chuff, chuff " sounds quite good!

Good morning Oscar. Excellent video to start the day. As noted previously, Albert Hall was one of my first Triang Hornby locomotives when I found out the Class 37 and the InterCity set was no longer available in 1968. Lord Westwood was utterley fictitious and indeed 25555 was the Margate factory phone number. The catalogue writers in 1974 described the model in the curious language of the time as carrying on unashamedly...

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. I've just watched your excellent video. Well, what can I say, you have excelled yourself yet again. Another piece of excellence, your red GWR locomotives look amazing. It's interesting to see how Hornby change locomotive parts over the years, as with the wheels on the red locomotives. But it's not only the look of your layout, it's the sound of your layout that takes me back to my young days, it's just pure magic in sound and vision. Well it's Sunday morning and the time has just gone 09. 10 am and that means it's time for my cup of tea and my toasted tea cake. And may I say a good morning to everyone else who watches your wonderful railway as well. We are all so privileged to be able to enjoy watching your railway. I've just made my cup of tea and toasted my tea cake and and I am going to watch your video again Oscar. Well, until next time I will wish you a peaceful and safe week ahead Oscar and I hope your family are well too. My very best wishes. 👍🚂🚃☕

Good morning Martin I'm running late again this week getting round to reading through the comments, it's just coming up to 6 o'clock and I've just made a cup of tea myself and it's very nice and quiet around the house at this time. It's been a very busy week. Have been very relaxed over the weekend so far and planning to spend the morning at the allotment before it gets too hot. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching and the very kind words. Take care. Oscar

Morning Oscar, I'm very behind this week, I'm not sure where time has gone. That is a very impressive engine, liking the Lord Westwood, and that was great fun seeing both the double header and the finishing with the triple header, see your just a big kid at heart!! That is something my grandson would do, making as long a train as possible, but it's good fun to do every now and again. If you get a chance maybe you could make up a goods train as advertised in the 1973 catalogue that would have been an great train, anyone would have loved to own. Anyway take care Oscar see you on the next one, Eddy xxx

Both Lord Westwood models appear to be in great condition and ran superbly together. Normally I find the sound boxes annoying but today it sounded great, I'm glad you left it working for most of the video. Quite amazing to see all the different methods of attaching the wheels to the bogies. Pin point seems to be universal now though and to my knowledge Tri-ang pioneered that. Thank you for a great Sunday morning video on what has proven to be a wet day.

The Lord Westwoods with the non-plated wheels have probably had a chassis change from an earlier Hall (there's probably an early BR Hall body on a later chassis somewhere!). I've seen this happen with the GWR pannier, which should always have plated wheels, but were changed for a Jinty chassis that had plain wheels. Lots of secondhand locos seen at toy and train fairs are 'bitsas'.

Hi Oscar, That Johnson 3F and coaches reminds me of the first train set I was bought as a child. The Old Smokey set. What you are running is very similar. The set had a luggage van but it was green with red doors. The coach was a full corridor coach in blood and custard. The engine though was very special. It had the first ever factory done weathering on an RTR engine. Pity they only did the engine and not the tender though. Brought back some very nice childhood memories.

Hi Oscar Remarkably long production run for the Ore Wagon, starting in 1658! :-) The Operating Ore Wagon set was another one of those coveted action models that appeared in 1970's catalogues that I could never afford. I have since acquired 6 ore wagons and the discharge bridge and tried to crowbar it into the plan for my Dublo layout but it just doesn't fit in. A bit like the lift bridge, you need loads of space and perhaps a dedicated project to make it work. I really appreciated seeing it in action on your previous layout. I ended up making an operating coal tippler in the style of an Airfix kit and that works very well. Thanks for another interesting video. Guy

@oscarpaisley 2 күн бұрын
Thanks for looking in guy great he enjoyed the video, it's amazing how much space some of these items take up, I had hoped to get the operating mail set incorporated but didn't really think about it at the time and now there isn't really the space on any of the straight track to fit the pick up and drop off points comfortably in. I think these are very attractive for the series 3 and standard track versions with their little platforms and advertising boards they are much nicer solution than the later actuating ramp you could fit between the rails with clip fit collection bin and pick up point. All the best. Oscar

Charlie will love this video? He is always one for running multiple locos with long trains.. On his 9' X 4' layout, sometimes the loco can see the end of it's own train? We have some coaches with pin-point axles, and he has a Britannia pulling a late TC Mail coach in British colours and 6 other blue and cream coaches... (Not sure if these are Tri-ang-Hornby or Mainline models)? This rake looks quite an impressive train on his smaller layout too.. It's a big load, but Britannia handles it well.. The Hornby Dublo coaches look great at the start of the video.. Their Bogies are quite different to the Tri-ang ones with 'off-set' pivot points? Very interesting to look at.. Great video as usual.. Nice to hear Mr. Snooze get mentioned as well. I'll show Charlie this vid tomorrow.. Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for looking in. Hope Charlie enjoys the video. The Dublo bogies are quite an interesting design just like Tri-ang they seem to have tried a couple of different variations in design. But their plastic wheel models was being very quiet to run always seem to develop quite a lot of friction. All the best. Oscar

Lord Western is strange in Red Livery, was it prophetic of things to come aka Hogwarts Express. Simple stuff Oscar but Horny did so much for introducing people to model trains. Looking back I didn't care if some would run with something else, if I liked it I bought it or asked for it for Christmas.

Wonderful nostalgia. I remember being tempted by a 2nd hand Lord Westwood in the late 1970s but didn't buy as I really preferred more prototypical GW and WR models and already had an Albert Hall with its chuff, plus a lovely Wrenn Castle amongst my collection. I sometimes wonder if this model wasn't the inspiration for the Hogwarts Express, ironically something which has resulted in a preserved Hall being shipped to Japan. I hope they take good care of it.

Odd fact. When Triang did the United Dairies milk wagon they did it wrong. The Dublo had three axles like the real thing. In real life all milk tankers from 1931 on had three axles. I have just started to collect Trix HO and their 3 rail will run on Hornby Dublo as does the obscure 3 rail Vollon et Brun which was a French company once owned by Lines Bros. I have plenty of SNCF stuff. One thing i miss on your railway is the overhead catenary as i run E3001 and Electra. Trix had their own overhead system as did the French company and i run their BoBo electric. Nice to see vintage stuff

Hi thanks for looking in and the info. It's very much appreciated. I haven't attended to put a catenary on this railway, It certainly won't go on the outer line of series 3 but if I get the time it's possible to have it on the inner series 3 Line and some other siding, hopefully I will get around to this as time moves on, it will be nice to run the locomotives with overhead pick up. All the best. Oscar

Thanks Oscar, once Dublo introduced 2 rail track the plastic wheels were neccesary, but I do feel the type used were also a cost cutter as, I expect, the super detail, wagons and coaches were very costly to develop and manufacture, the original compensated bogies received some bad reviews early days and were changed to a rigid type by 1962, as you say the coaches are heavy and not as free running as say Triang's10" coaches with pin points, but very lovely looking, I dare say some Dublo collectors would say "never bettered" !
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 күн бұрын
Good morning Paul, thanks for looking in and the info, they are a lovely looking items with the printing on the tin plate sides, plastic roofs and internal details and they definitely do run a lot quieter, recently acquired some SR corridor coaches and they have the rigid type bogies these came along around 1962 they do run a little freer than ones ones with compensated bogies. Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Great intro footage as always and striking pair of Lord Westwoods, even more so as a triple header and why not. I always find the chuff chuff sound quite pleasing to begin with but it quite quickly wears off. Not alone with that one I think 🤔. Interesting overview of the carriage bogies. I’ve recently been ‘trying’ to address the issue of storing engines and rolling stock, boxed items are OK but unboxed is a problem, any suggestions welcome. Thanks again for a most enjoyable 30 mins. Gordon
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 күн бұрын
Good morning Gordon great to hear you enjoyed the video with the triple header, some of my unboxed locomotives are wrapped in kitchen towel then bubble wrapped, I'm trying to get around to getting them all into their own individual cardboard boxes rather than lean leaving them laying on top of each other in a large cardboard box but it all takes up a lot of space, I've made my own boxes on occasion but this can be incredibly time-consuming, I've bought boxes which just need folding into shape once they have arrived by post these turn out to be just under two pound each for 10 once delivered they do the job very well, I like to wrap stuff with kitchen towel as even models that have been lightly oiled when packed away for any length of time the oil tends to seep spread and causes problems with decals and lining. For small wagons I just wrap in kitchen towel and use those individual little policy bags with Ziploc's and keeping boxes the air within these tents to provide quite nice protection when you get multiples altogether in the box, coaches again, kitchen towel, small piece of bubble wrap and these stack quite nicely in cardboard boxes. Hope that's have some help. All the best. Oscar

Hi there Oscar ,, i got 1 athe earlier type lord westwwod's without the plated wheels but when i got it the condition of it was really poor and looked like some kids have played smashup derbies with it as the loco's was cracked and broken bits all over the place but of all things it had a really good motor in it so im going to use it as a wrecker as the chassis is ok too but just about every thing else is shagged. I didnt get the chuff chuff tender with it but i do have a chuff chuff tender on a Britania i bought a few years ago from the UK. I think I paid around 38 pounds as a goer and it does work good. It has the smoke unit in it and it seems to work good too. I recently put some fotos of the loco to pick the guru's brains on wether the Britannia id gotten was all original and turned out that it was all correct except for the front pony truck as it had a mark 2 coupler on it. It turns out I had prevoiusly bought an old brittania (in bits) that I'd bought and it had the correct pony truck on it so thats now on it now , so im happy that it all correct and completed. I will be removing the chuff chuff out of the tender though just like you have as it would do my head in having to listen to that repetitive raucous. I am not usually a stickler for correctness on anything trains but i do plan to run it and i have seen the mark 3 couplers seem way more reliable than the mark 2 coupelrs as there 1 thing that gripes me and that is self uncoupling carriages when you run them. I love the triple heading at the end of your video too that was awesome. Cheers from John in Australia.

Hi again Oscar, Charlie has seen the video now (its Tuesday afternoon in Tasmania).. He loved the triple-header as I expected.. But he only uses Tri-ang R 42 controllers on his layout.. So If he tries it with 3 early locos, the "overload cut-out button" will probably pop up? 2 locos on the same track is usually their limit? We both love your channel.. Rob & Charlie..
