For anyone who doesn't have the luxury of space for that huge dream layout (like 90% of us), the Hornby Trakmat layout is one of the best. Nice work Duncan.
@filmtajm354 жыл бұрын
The layout looks deceively clean and simple, but with closer inspection, that's not the case. It's not only two trains running around in a circle in opposite directions. For example, it takes a lot of thought, planning and shunting to get the locomotive at the train station to connect with the wagons on the top side line with only one train or locomotive allowed on the same track at the same time and with two other locomotives on the layout, it's a challenge. Even more so to shift the order of the wagons. All in all, a very interesting and challenging layout in it's simplicity and will entertain for a lifetime. Thank you for sharing.

Hi can I ask. I have just bought the R8217 trackmat and all accessories for starting. Is your build straight onto the baseboard and painted etc. or did you build on top of trackmat. My apologies for probs a silly question as I am new to model rail. Would like to know best way to build. My thinking would be straight onto plywood baseboard
@dunking44 Жыл бұрын
I used mdf and built straight on to it my layout wasn't exactly like the track mat, hope this helps, good luck...

Hi - beginner question: Can you provide the wiring layout you used to get all of this working (innner/outer loops, sidings etc). Do you use DC? Is this using one or two controllers and do you have the lay out divided into individually powered blocks?
@dunking443 жыл бұрын
2 controllers with insulated fishplates were the track crosses over from inner to outer, the layout is DC 👍
@Xyndernox3 жыл бұрын
if you dont mind me asking so many years after this layout was finished, were you using dcc in this video or did you figure out a way to power the rail individually with analogue
@dunking443 жыл бұрын
Individually with analogue, where the track crosses over you isolate with insulated fishplates which allows you to use two controllers..
@Xyndernox3 жыл бұрын
@@dunking44 oh thank you, that's a clever method of running multiple trains on an analogue set, I'll be sure to look into it for my set. Thanks again

Hi Duncan wonder if you could give a beginner some help here ... I've been watching all your videos and I've recently gone and bought the Hornby track pack set up A through to F...... Like your Duncan's folly ... I've fitted One Link wire it came with track pack C Now I've added packs E and F the Sidings when I switch a track it all Cuts out power Do I need to to buy more Link wires for the sidings to stop it cutting out Or do I need point clips for all the switch track Its DC so far but was thinking of going DCC..... If I go DCC will point clips solve all the issues and the whole track becomes live without using a link wire ?? Trying to get it all working with my son any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated .. Watching your videos inspired us to start our first layout ever total beginners Thanks in advance
@dunking446 жыл бұрын
Hi, DCC with point clips will work when you change to DCC, in the meantime if you have the 2 oval tracks you will need plastic rail joiners that go in the middle of the crossover from outer to the inner track then you can used 2 controllers, the power has to be cut in the middle to stop the whole thing shorting out... I hope this helps you, good luck👍🚂
@tfergy16 жыл бұрын
Brilliant thanks Duncan il get some joiners for now before moving onto the DCC cheers mate appreciate the help it's been frustrating so far but seeing yours in operation I need to get it done it's brilliant

Hey mate, is the mat any bigger than the other version? The one you get with the box sets? Want to get the extension mat but don’t know how much bigger it is from the normal one.
@dunking446 жыл бұрын
My track on the main board is set to the size of the trakmat but my baseboard is 6 foot 6" long by 4 foot I kept it longer for more scenery etc? I don't think you get trakmat extension mats mine is 5 foot by 2 foot that's the size I chose!!! Good luck with your layout 👍🚂👌
