Just watched the video. Here in the states, “watch makers” hide from the public. They only do the easy jobs. It’s rare to find one who’ll tackle an unusual watch. He’s lucky to find an enicar expert.

Nice work on a very nice watch. I only discovered Enicar watches a few months ago (early 2022) and have the magnificent "Time For A Change" book and I recently purchased a non-running Seapearl which is waiting on my bench for an overhaul. Before I knew anything about watches, I did unfortunately purchase a "Mumbai special" Enicar off eBay - oh well, live and learn. I have been looking at prices for Enicar watches like the Ops, GMT, JET, etc, etc, and they are all well out of my price range. Even a really beat up, damaged Sherpa Ops (not sure which mark) went for over US$600 on eBay.

Would you happen to know where I can buy an AR1126 mainspring and barrel? I really need the barrel but would like to buy it pre-loaded. Thank you for your help
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 8 ай бұрын
I believe pretty much all the mainsprings for the enicars (1120, 1140, 166 families) are the same. I doubt you will find one with a spring inside a barrel as they didn’t come like that. I would have thought you can find one on eBay for example
@RickStamler
@RickStamler 8 ай бұрын
I don’t mind buying a mainspring barrel separately and installing it myself. I am doing this project for a guy. My main gig is Hamilton Electric but he asked if I’d do it and I agreed. It’s come out really nice but there is an issue with the mainspring barrel. I put a new spring in it but the cap won’t stay on it. It’s all chewed up inside someone hacked it up before I got it. I think the cap is pressing the mainspring but it won’t run even 24hrs on a full wind. Pretty low amplitude as well. Bottom line is I need a new barrel. If you have info on what barrels will work for the 1126 I’d greatly appreciate it. I thankful you replied Thank you!

Great detail and comments during repairs. Question, to get started in this, would you have a manual , pdf’s, diagrams, to follow to get everything back together? What is a best practice for this? It sounds like you have done plenty of this brand that your comfortable with, but what do we first timers do?
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, Many thanks for the comments, super appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. There really is limited amount of documentation out there concerning Enicar but as you mentioned it is a brand that I am very familiar with. If I'm honest because we are fortunate enough to live in a digital age I would recommend taking photos before (and during) you dismantle a watch that you are not familiar with as you could actually use the images as reference points. This of course only gets you so far other than practice of course so I would recommend doing both of these. Hope this helps HB

I recently got my grandpa's enicar watch. I've been trying so hard to find some info about it but can't seem to find any watch that looks similar to mine on the internet. So, I have no idea what's inside the watch or what reference number it is. The watch means a lot to me but it's so difficult to find any info on it.

great Vid. I worked on this movement and remember that quick date change spring well, it pinged on me 3 times and each time i managed to find it!! the orientation of the quick date finger was a bit confusing at first. The watch i was working on was a sherpa 320 and managed to break the glass pressing it back in after cleaning the case. Do you know where one can be sourced along with a red gasket? As said great vid and a new subscriber here!!!!
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the comments Carl, Yeah it’s the same movement in the 320. You must have mega vision to find that spring as it’s the smallest I’ve ever seen lol Regarding the glass I think they are mineral and oval on those 320 Sherpas. That’s a hard one I’m sorry to say, I’ve never seen any :(

A very, very beautiful watch and great video. Is that a genuine compressor case? Unlike modern cases that look like compressors but aren't...

Yes it is a genuine one made by EPSA in the 1960’s. Enicar used these bayonet case designs on most of their higher end diver watches

Hey sir… love your vids and just discovered your channel. If you’d be kind enough to maybe answer a tech question on my Vulcain ? The winding stem is stuck in the winding clutch. Soaking it now maybe to loosen it up but it’s really in there. Maybe a viewer can advise. Thanks you!! Ps I’ve been restoring an Enicar Ultrasonic. Love the watch
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the comments Walther, nice to hear you have been working on an Enicar 👍🏼👍🏼 I'm assuming your problem with the sliding pinion and winding stem is rust :( I had an Omega a while back with the same issue and it sucked! I stripped the whole movement apart from the pinion and stem and soaked it in a rust remover for a while then just had to try some force. I used an old pair of tweezers to hold the sliding pinion while pulling on the stem bit by bit. It took quite a while but I did get it out. Obviously both parts needed to be replaced. I'm curious if others have tips on this issue.
@walther9161
@walther9161 2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank thank you for the reply I’ll let it soak and see. Yes I took the entire movement apart to get to the front and the keyless works. I’m new to this fascinating world of watches as a hobbyist… I have a bunch of old movements I’m playing with😊 I’ll keep checking back to see if others have any suggestions as well. Thanks again!!
@HorologyBiology

I know that Bergeon sell a rust remover but I don’t believe it’s something that you can leave it soaking in for a long time. Have a look for it on Google 💪🏻💪🏻

What I've been noticing is that people with beat up vintage watches are increasingly turning to "advanced hobbyist" watchmakers because the "real" watchmakers (including the manufacturers) won't touch them. It seems the money for them is in quick turn and burn servicing and repair of contemporary pieces. I guess the time and effort required to resurrect a vintage watch isn't cost effective for them.
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right with what you said. I have heard this many times now from people. The problem is a lot of the big player companies (Swatch group for example) won’t entertain it as like you mentioned, the financial gain isn’t viable.
@excessemail2344
@excessemail2344 Жыл бұрын
There is another issue. I work in high end auto repair. If some heat-baked 30 year old plastic piece breaks while the vehicle is being repaired, the owner inevitably wants the facility to cover it. They don't care that age and neglect on their part is why it broke, they feel that if it broke in your hands, you've got to pay for it. I don't want their money, and I don't want their cars in my facility. I'm guessing watches are the same.

Great vid! We do appreciate them. Checkout YT analytics, see what % view to the end, good indication. Do you like your crystal press? I have one of these and always wish for a lottery win to purchase something significantly better. Do you use v105 and v106 to lubricate auto works and rotor bearings?
@HorologyBiology

Many thanks for the comment. I think I will have more luck finding a full detailed explanation of how the Pyramids were built from trying to understand how YT seriously gather this data! I don't mind the crystal press, it works fine for simple press fit crystals. I also have a Robur press which works great for the standard style of crystals. It's funny you should mention v105 & v106 as I literally just received 2 10ml pots in the mail this week. I was always under the impression that these are for newer watches and as I mainly do vintage I never bothered. Recently someone highly recommended it to me for vintage autos also so I bought some to give it a shot.
