I was lucky enough to be there! Tickets were offered for sale only the people outside of the USA, I flew over from London aged then just 25 years old! It was one of the most memorable and exciting experiences of my life

I thought this concert was for an all-Japanese audience?
@mafweiss13 жыл бұрын
@@Pogouldangeliwitz Deffo not, all tickets were sold via agencies as travel packages to worldwide fans first, then any unsold were offered to US fans.

@@mafweiss1 My bad, I think I confused this with another Horowitz concert! Just checked in Glenn Plaskins biography: the concert you attended was indeed offered to international admirers because at that time Horowitz wouldn't travel abroad (he was afraid of jetlag; changed his mind 4 years later). 1200 "packages" were sold, 140 Japanese fans paid 1740$ for theirs. I hope yours wasn't that expensive, even if one Horowitz is worth thousands of Bang Bangs and alikes.

@@Pogouldangeliwitz The price wasnt too bad. Mind you I think likely my parents heIped with the cost as I was just 25 at the time, and I went with my younger brother too. We had great seats around 15 rows back in the stalls, central though just not quite keyboard side. A few years later, when Horowitz came to London, I queued all night and was third in the line for tickets. In the filmed first recital, I can be seen in the front row of the stalls in conspicuous white jacket. Another truly memorable day!

Amazing find, a live CHOPIN CONCERT and stupendously performed by Vladimir Horowitz, that tender and dynamic touch he possesses, he touches the soul with his superb playing.

Horowitz was definitely in "Good Form" for this concert! He had the vitality and daring and power associated with his younger years even though he was 73 in this recital. Even though he has played these pieces many time in the past some his best performances of them were on this day!

I love horowitz but I do think he pounds the shit out of the Polonaise Fantaisie...
@martinmysteres13842 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's possible with a fantaisie which is also a polonaise... after all "fantaisie" means freedom and imagination !
