I work security at a local SCCA road course and its a continuous problem with people running towards wrecks in an attempt to get a video. Generally speaking its not the professional photographers that we have issues with. But when everybody has a camera in their pocket, suddenly everybody is a photographer and they will often put themselves in dangerous situations as their surroundings reduce to the size of a cell phone screen. Anytime there is a big wreck, you will be able to find several angles of it on youtube by the time the race day is done. And rarely will they edit out the screams, cries, or injuries.

We had just had a heated conversation with our 14 yr old daughter and her friend on why they where not going to go stand down on the right side of the Big End. And my words where not even dry, And this happens. It was tuff to watch. The fact that NO ONE was seriously injured or killed is amazing. The kids races are always a hoot. And Bill does a fantastic job of doing the MC on it. Thanks to all that helped make this race happen. Keeping this old track alive is something we all have to help out with. Fact is this, They sure aren't opening any new one's. So we better save the ones we have.

Those old style metal crash barriers are totally worthless and this crash shows exactly why. Really bad stuff can happen when a car leaves the race track. A modern concrete barrier would have kept the car on the track. Very fortunate the car didn’t take out some spectators.

Hard to control that, cecil has walls and a top sportsmen car went over that through the fence and landed where our motorhome was parked 5 mins before, we had pulled out and was passing them as they launched. I will never park next to the track again

When 2-3k lb vehicles go out of control anything they hit short of a 6’ vertical wall can catapult the car up and over it, granted guard rails aint the safest but neither is no prep....safety is under the drivers foot and sometimes you have to let a pass go and come back another day, once the car is upset back off and load up. I learned the hard way and its hard to not fight to the end but it hurts worse with this result and still didnt win, glad everybody got to go home!!

I used to race the 300ft jeep and truck drags on dirt. We still had some bad accidents, but we always had a volunteer FD and squad on site. The brush truck was always at the shutdown line. I was on a VFD for years. If you let them take donations at the gate they will show up every race. We was never paid, but we always sent the rescue truck and brush truck with a 300gal water tank. Plus we had gear and guys trained to cut people out. I’m not trying to cause drama, but a golf cart with a few fire extinguishers is not a rescue team. Most fairgrounds we raced at said there insurance required the FD and Squad be on site for every event. I’m glad everyone lived through this accident. One big Lawsuit could shut down a small track… We all want the sport safe as possible. That was a hell of a run Billy. The S-10 is rollin… And great job on the camera Tommy.

I'm going to sit on my soapbox here. I have never seen so many of these no time event when they weren't ready for the worse. What's it take to have a dozen fire extinguishers ready to go? Stake a couple mid track at the end of the track at the start line and the rest in back of a mule that is sitting on the start line ready to go. Now I'm not say this as nobody, I spent over a dozen years working a a track official. Somebody please get organized before someone doesn't walk away.

There should be no guard rails just grassy field, just after like the 330 mark and just don't have anybody or anything close to the track after that point. That way when someone does lose it at speed they don't get hurt, the car shouldn't really get hurt and everything is good.... Car just slides out in the field...jjs airport races are like that.

I’m very thankful everyone is ok. I am concerned how close the fans are around the burnout box and starting line. It’s just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. All it takes is twisting the lugs off a wheel or a motor coming loose at the starting line and slinging parts out the sides when one blows up . To many chances being taken .

We built a drag strip in west tx back in 02, we had to have ems and law enforcement there any time we raced, i guess these street race style events dont have too? I havent heard if hes ok either.

Yes, that needs to stop. There's no reason for anyone to be that far down the track, too much potential for bad stuff to happen. I hate seeing people on the inside of the barriers past the start line also, another horrific tragedy just waiting to happen.

I had that thought too.. at the beginning of the video there is a woman stepping out in front to get pictures while cars are rolling the burnout. Seen too many hook a tire, break an axle… could lead to a lifetime of regrets

This is why "no prep" on the race track is just dumb. Just prep the surface and get out there and run. It's a lot safer. Plus everyone's out there putting down traction juice anyway. That's not "no prep". And get rid of the flashlight start, too. You're on the track. Use the tree. BTW, props to my man with the fire extinguisher. He was on a pass for sure.

Listen, I don't mind this type of outlaw/no prep/back-half type of racing, but even basic safety needs to be considered. Everyone got EXTREMELY lucky that no one got more seriously injured or killed. And 50 spectators running down the track isn't any better. Unless you are trained EMS/FIRE/First Aid or track personnel. You need to keep clear. Period!

Yeah, the cars are always evolving but not the tracks. Some of these tracks are from a day when competitive cars has 3-400hp now it’s normal to have a 1000+ more and still rely on guard rails and let people hang out around them.
