There was a TV movie in the summer of 1984 about the first modern Olympics of 1896. The Greek band was rehearsing the national anthems of each participating country and for the U.S. they played 'Yankee Doodle.' Historical fallacy: Hitler actually waved to Jessie Owens as he passed mch as he did for all the athletes. Jessie Owens was the only athlete to have the leader of his own country not acknowledge his achievement, even Hitler acknowledged it without much anger (that we know of). Hell, owens wasn't even invited to shake the presidents hand afterwards, still had to sit at the back of the bus and had to enter the party for medalists in America through the service entrance.

I'm surprised that they neglected to add in the song that Hitler did congratulate and shake Mr. Owen's hand for his victories, going further, Hitler gave Mr. Owens a signed photograph of the hand shack, which apparently he cherished quite dearly. On the other hand the American president couldn't be bothered to even send a message of congratulations to Mr. Owens. But maybe Mr. Owens summed it up best by saying "Hitler didn't snub me-it was our president who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram." during a public speech in the US.
@Tareltonlives4 жыл бұрын
They didn't shake hands; they just waved at each other. Hitler passed it off as "oh, Africans are just physically stronger", while Owens was more upset about Roosevelt snubbing him, and thus became the biggest support for Alf Landon (fiscally conservative, socially liberal) in the 36 election.
