We treated our pond in May with 5 pails of Damit....had 10 pails but the wind picked up too much to put the rest out. It was quite a circus with painter suits and even bought a Pond Prowler plastic boat to get out in the middle for even application. It seems to be sealing the bottom where it was more sand than clay and the water clarity is much better. It did kill thousands of frogs that got caught in the slime....we don't have fish yet.

Hey the stuff works, esp. on seeps. My new pond was leaking 12 inches every 24 hrs after we kept pumping it full from a creek. I tried the 15 liter pail and after 4 days now losing 3 inches every 24 hrs, huge difference. I still have a hole on the back side leaking around 5 gals per minute, I just ordered another bag, hope it finally stops the leak.

Bentonite clay is a natural sealer that works well if it remains moist or wet. You could drain the pond, get sacks of dry clay, put out a layer and fill it back up. How much to use, where to buy it, that is another issue, but it is an alternative for comparison.
@____________________________.x
@____________________________.x 2 жыл бұрын
This product apparently has a finite lifetime of 5 years, so yeh I’m thinking bentonite clay is a better solution? But this is cheap and easier to apply, and possibly the fissures will self seal over time if the outflow rate is reduced? An interesting consideration though.

Several people are talking about bentonite clay we was told by our local ag extension office to spread bentonite in our pond to stop the leak so we did and we applied it as we were told and it was a total failure. It might work if the pond was drained and dried up then till in the bentonite and pack it then refill the pond that might possibly work.

welcome to the ag extension office...surprised they didn't hand you 14 pamplets and tell ya to read the "pond book" they provide....I've not found one way the ag extension office can be helpful yet...AT ALL!! Very frustrating! When I bough the farm I went over there and sat down with the extension agent...I asked.."what are folks farming in this county that makes money".....crickets!! An ag extension agent should be able to tell you what's working in the country and what's not working in my opinion

I’ve seen a couple of other videos where people use this and it worked for them. Hopefully it’ll work good for you. Another thing I’ve seen people do with the coupons is fill them with organics, grass clippings and hay which I guess once it breaks down basically turns to Clay. But they’ll put a lot of grass clippings in hay and leaves in the pond and after a few years it seals it up. I was researching this about a year ago but I haven’t done it myself so I can’t tell you but the stuff you’re using I’ve seen work in two or three videos and it worked well for everyone who used it

Is there any concern that this will have an effect to the spring feeding the pond?
@____________________________.x
@____________________________.x 2 жыл бұрын
The pressure of the spring feeding the pond is greater that the level of the water that the pond held, so no viscous fluid product will hold back that kind of pressure. It’s only not leaking out in reverse because the majority of the pond floor is solid and its surface area is hugely greater (remember you measure pressure in PSI, and the spring feed is a few inches in diameter versus a hundred square yards of pond water pushing down)

@@brentallen15 it looks like it stays in it's slime condition and seeps down into fissures, a bit like tyre sealant. The website gives a 5 year life, I'd imagine that if nothing changes then it's going to be good for a lot longer as clay silt will have replaced the degraded polymer

Hello Josh, my dad built a pond 2 years before he built his house and it was ground fed and he put walleye and perch and bass and bluegill and the patio was 2' away from the edge of the pond and dad would always feed the fish when he was grilling lunch or supper on the grill and you could take a piece of bread and the fish would eat it out of your hands. But Dad passed away 5 years ago and I should ask my stepmom if she is having any problems with the depths of the pond as dad had it setup for the house for drawing water needs and he had a reverse osmosis in the basement so you could drink the water along with bathing and washing dishes and washing clothes but when it was dry out he often had to suck water from the creek nearby 200' ft away to raise the water table up in the fall so it would be high enough to get through the winter cuz the pump froze up cause the water table was to low but never had a problem after that when he filled the pond after that and when they had lots of water he had a over full pipe he could control the water depth of the pond and he had 5' ft around the pond to keep the weeds down and he spent as much time on the pond as a farmer would spend farming 40 acres and you could go up stairs of the house and look at the pond and see the bottom of the pond in the middle which was 25' deep and he had it so it was clear blue. The pond was 2 acres big. But I don't know what the situation is now because the pond was his Only source of water for the whole house and he didn't want to dig a well because of costs. I need to talk to my stepmom and see what is going on with the pond now. Thanks for the information Josh, I will have to pass it on.

I tried everything I tried chemicals I tried but with different kinds of dirt on it and packing it nothing seemed to work, finally, one of my neighbors an older man told me he had upon like it when he was younger and what he did was just put a fence around it and put some hogs in the fence. What I didn't figure I had much to lose so I tried it, it took several years I think three years or four years, but it was a deep pond, but they kept rooting around down in the bottom where the mud hole was started off with then as the water came up they just kept rooting around it and they, sure enough, sealed it. Just in case your chemicals don't work.

If it ever did come down too needing too rebuild the dam! You can use your skid steer and do it yourself and save a ton of money. I built a one for a customer acouple years back with a skid steer because it’s all I could get back too site other then a mini excavator because they didn’t want trees cut or cleared too get too the area.. I just walked in the dam in 4-8 inch lifts and had a compaction test done and it was like I used a roller but only used the skid steer too compact the dam.

it would take me 2 years to rebuild this with the skidsteer...need a big excavator to move this amount of dirt..skid steer on a project this big is like loading a dumptruck full of gravel with a spatula my friend...trust me I've learned it's better to hire bigger equipment in the long run

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer 100% bigger is always better but I’m saying a project that big could easily be done in 1-2 weeks. I do grading and dig ponds and mostly basements.

I have a pond that was fine until my neighbor bulldozed about 1.5' of soil away on his property which is about 50yards away from the pond. Since then the pond will not hold more than a out half what it used to. This has caused the grasses to grow up and it can't be used anymore. Would this product work to seal the bottom (live in southern georgia. Have 2' of sandy soil then about 1 foot of blueish grey clay followed by 2 ft of red clay. When the pond was dug, they broke thru the red clay and the neighbor removing the topsoil allows the pond to drain through the breaks in the clay).

Did you find that the Cornish Cross from Meyer was of lesser genetic quality than that of McMurray? We got two shipments from Meyer this year and had multiple chicks that never grew up. We have never had that issue from McMurray. Thank you for your opinion on your experience.

never grew up?? You mead died? Not sure what ya mean....I do believe that most of the cornish X chicks from around the country all come from the same place...I could be wrong

@swiftcreekranch4828 2 жыл бұрын
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer No they didnt die at all actually. 53% of our order at 10 weeks old was at about 4lbs. 12% of our order at 10 weeks old lived but never grew larger than 3lbs, some even under 2lbs. Identical conditions for all Cornish from Meyer. We haven’t seen those types of poor numbers from McMurray. Have you seen consistency or inconsistency or did we just get a bad batch from Meyer?

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer it's a heck of a lot more environmental than any chemicals of ANY kind. and if there is a hole in your pond it will be dry up to it ,they root and dig filling in the holes and packing the clay to seal it. sure seems natural to me.
