It is one of the dilemmas in human society as far as death penalty is concerned. If you were the immediate family members of the prisoners to be executed, what would you feel ? On the other hand, if you were the immediate family members of the victims, you would very much feel differently.

Saya sempat melawat penjara Pudu sebelum dirobohkan. Lawat jugu bilik gantung, sepi dan sejuk. Kagum dengan bahan binaan, kayu, besi yang amat berkualiti tinggi. Tak pernah rasa papan kayu sekeras sebegitu, ketuk pun tak berbunyi. Nokia biasa sahaja.

Everybody talks about whether it deters, I don't know if it deters or not, but I know one thing. People who are hanged never re-offend. Since the UK abolished the death penalty in 1965, 1000s of lifers have gone on to kill again after being released on parole, 30 between 2001 and 2011 alone. Right now one of the murderers of Lee Rigby is costing the taxpayer 45,000 pounds a year to keep locked up and has spent that time radicalising other inmates and attacking and trying to kill prison warders. There is no sane rational reason for keeping dangerous murderers alive, and I can guarantee that however many innocent people have been executed due to a failure of the justice system, this figure will be dwarfed by the amount of people murdered by paroled murderers, at least three times a year if the period between 2001-2011 is taken as a general average. And those are just murders, there are many more instances of rapes, violent assaults and other crimes as well that could have been avoided if they had been given a measured drop and a sudden stop like they ought to have been given.

I found that people that do not support death penalty, lack sympathy for criminal's victims. Instead, these people see the criminal as the victim. If you have sympathy for the criminal's families. Why you do not have sympathy for the victim's families ? These people, who oppose death penalty, are just hypocrites. The research in USA about death penalty is flaw. If you look at the FBI files documentaries, you will heard these words very frequently - "The murder suspect is an ex-convict, who have histories of violent". If these violent criminals are given the death penalty instead of parole. The number of murder victims would have reduce significantly in USA. Many innocent people do not have to die. Death penalty is the solution. Don't see death penalty as evil when you enjoy the benefits of death penalty. Without death penalty, there will be more murder cases in society if there are more murderers roaming the street.

They used the British Long Drop system, hence the table of drops which calculates the length of drop required to break the neck. Unconsciousness is instant and guaranteed provided the procedure is followed to the letter. The noose is a halter with a running eye never a 'hangman knot'. The halter eye is positioned under the jaw to the side to dislocated the vertebrae which then sever the spinal chord. It's about as instant as a guillotine and a lot less messy. The body is left for 30 mins for nerve movement to cease. No one survives a correctly executed long drop hanging. The rope itself is measured for the drop then stretched with a sand bag weighing rhe same as the prisoner and left to dangle to stretch. It's then remeasured the rope is attached by a shackle through a steel whipped in eye to the chain which is secured to a steel or oak beam. At the other end of the rope is the noose. As described it uses a running eye and has a leather covering in the bight to stop the skin being broken by the coarse hemp. This system.had been perfected by the 1880s and was deployed across the Empire. Executioners were trained at Wandsworth in London. After Irish independence, the British Executioners would travel to Ireland to carry out Irish State executions as Ireland didn't train its own Executioners.

Not true on the electric chair. Five minutes are allowed to elapse after the current ceases before the physician comes out to check for a pulse and report death. Thereafter, the curtains in front of the witness room are drawn and the inmate is promptly removed from the chair. He is taken to the adjacent room where sand bags are applied to the extremities for a few minutes (to prevent the joints from fusing in a seated position). After that, they are put into a body bag and taken by Office of Medical Examiner ambulance to the central office for autopsy. That was the protocol for electrocution in Virginia.

There are two sides of a coin. One side belongs to the criminal and the other side the victim. The execution of the caught criminals can be seen and usually very fast, without suffering lengthy pain. However, the execution of the victim especially those done covertly (different from those shooting in the public where death occurs almost immediately), we cannot witness the fear, the tortured pain and whatever feeling that I can't find the right words to describe. We can only look at the pictures of the victims if published in newspaper but usually pixelated and have to visualize and imagine how much the victims suffered before they died. Imagine how fearful Kevin Morais was. Was he begging to the killers, was he crying and in deep pain? We only knew he was cemented in an oil drum. Was he beaten up and tortured and put in the drum while still alive? What about Altantuya. Was she begging to be spared her and the unborn in her stomach? Was she crying frantically and in deep fear and pain? We knew she must be very frightening but we can't see it and we cannot really feel it the way the victims felt. But we knew it was very frightening to be in Kevin's and Altantuya's position. Can you imagine if you or your loved one such as your wife or husband or your children is/are the victim(s). Justice must PREVAIL. We must have death penalty to prevent more killing as some criminals are not remorseful. The benefits of death penalty outweigh the cons.

Pros: > The possibility of death sentence can passively deter crime. > Gives some closure to the victims family. > Gives a reason for angry crowds to not be vigilantes and kill a suspected criminal on the spot; allowing the accused to at least defend themself in court. > Last resort, if somehow the criminal is simply too violent nd cannot be rehabilitated or let back into society, yet is sane and cannot be locked in a mental institution. Cons: > Traumatises the judge and doctor

So hanging innocent people saves the lives of innocent people? How does that work. Obviously the US will have the lowest murder rate in the western hemisphere won’t it as it has the best deterrent? Much lower murder rate than Europe which has abolished the death sentence? We know the answer to both questions. You illustrate my point which is that people who advocate the death sentence do so because they rather like the idea of an execution whereas life imprisonment is too boring. But they cite the deterrent angle to justify it. Total crap.

Except it doesn't work as a deterrent. All it does is brutalize and desensitize the public. And it puts the USA in the same league as nations like Iraq, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, China, Bahrain, to name but a few. I live in a country that did away with capital punishment fifty years ago. We don't need it, we don't miss it and we don't want it back. Also in that half-century, at least ten people I know of who would have otherwise been candidates for execution, have subsequently been found innocent, thanks to new (usually DNA) evidence. In two cases I know of, exculpatory information had been deliberately ignored at the time by police and prosecutors. Plus of course, DNA evidence which wasn't available at the time, has overturned numerous bad convictions. Maybe you don't mind the notion of executing innocent people, but I find it pretty godawful. PS: Where I live, the per-capita murder rate has been falling for all the years that have elapsed since capital punishment was abolished.

Curious how death penalty is welcomed in the US which has a far higher murder rate than Europe where the Death Penalty has been abolished. Curious how even Russia has abolished the Death Penalty. Seems to me that the Death Penalty does not really serve as a deterrent but rather just satisfies the blood lust of some societies. Even a moron could see that if the US introduced serious gun law then the murder rate would go down but they like the drama of mass shootings and the following spectacle of an execution. With other countries it’s just a question of time before they complete their journey and evolve into a fully civilised society. Until then they rank as third world countries like Iran, Iraq, and so on. Anyone disagree? Of course you do!!!!!

yeah but a lot of trauma to the body + quite a bit of blood. The swift + clean kill if you will is obviously too try + make it quick not just for the condemned but for the people participating in carrying out the sentence. The less violence + blood and gore of a execution is too not impose a lot of mental anguish on the staff charged with carrying out the execution, that's why the USA tried to go to the lethal injection, clean, almost clinical, no blood, no chopping off of heads, no trauma like the firing squad or the electric chair but now it's getting harder and harder to get the drugs necessary to carry out the lethal injection so states are again looking at older forms of executions and hanging if done correctly is supposed to to pretty painless with not a ton of violence to the body.

Retired Appellate Court judge Mah Weng Kwai recalled his experience during his early days as a Magistrate, where he witnessed two brothers, who were convicted of murdering a police officer in Jalan Chow Kit, in 1983, were HANGED. He revealed this at a forum on the abolishment of capital punishment last night. The brothers were handcuffed and had white hoods covering their faces, as prison officers escorted them to the execution room at the Pudu prison. The noose was then placed around the brothers' necks, before the executioner pulled a lever, which caused the platform below the convicts' legs to open up, causing in them to be HANGED from their necks. "It was the loudest 'bang' I heard in my life. But despite the loud bang, it was total silence from them (the brothers)," Mah recalled the execution. The brothers' bodies, however, were not removed immediately, Mah said, adding that they were left hanging for about half an hour, before a doctor certified that they were medically dead. FIFY. People are "hanged" not "hung".

I did some research that during judical hanging, some prisoner's heart keep on beating although there is already brain death (medical term that the body could no longer function on its own as the brain is dead) So they left the body hanging for 30-60 minutes. And by the time guards take down the dead body, more than 90 percent by that time, the deceased's heart beat would stopped beating. The intention is not to humiliate or torture the victim but medical and legal reason.
