I think it's odd to lead with his postcareer struggles as a sloppy addict. Is it somehow relevant to a 51 year claim of negligence? The connection between Namath's troubles and a football camp threw is pretty thin. But maybe that's the whole point and it symbolizes the attachment of liability to someone who agreed to lend his name to a camp and pose for pictures. Haven't read the lawsuit complaint so it'd provide context if TYTsport included allegations, if any, that Namath was deeply involved with the camp or had some knowledge of this predator.

As someone who has suffered sexual abuse from age 7 to 11, I understand why it can take so long to come forward. My abuser came from a family that was well respected in the community. His father was a high school biology and physics teacher, and was raising five kids on his own. I was threatened with harm to me and my family if I told anyone. So for 44 years I kept it pushed down so far that I really didn't remember, but it found a way and resurfaced. When I finally worked up the nerve to report to authorities, I was told that the statue of limitations had expired. This guy also went on to become a minister!!, which gave him access to many children!! I was allowed to file a report and the law has since been changed, but only retro to 25 years. This man attended each of my parents funerals. He was finally arrested on recent charges and jailed. So now I am in the midst of finding ways to heal and get my life back.

Might I make a suggestion? I rehabbed two kids via martial arts. They lack confidence and are afraid and sometimes cannot stand men touching them- very understandable. I have mixed canine therapy with it as well. I am in no way a medical professional but I have used it twice to help teenage boys and it worked. It's also a positive way to release the rage. But I did get help from a psychiatrist student of mine and advice. I prefer judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as they are so effective and have a good reputation. Good luck to you!

This can't be any more of a non-story. I don't doubt the victim by any means, it just seems like making it public does nothing for anyone and serves no purpose. Can we talk about how Joe Namath is the most overrated Quarterback in the history of the sport? He got into the Hall Of Fame for a single (very questionable) game and the media coverage of "The Guarantee" which was literally a drunk Namath angrily guaranteeing a win to reporters. Namath threw 220 interceptions in 140 games (only 173 TDs) and his passer rating was so low historically, he never achieved a season as high as 12 other quarterbacks in the 1960's had for their career that also played in said decade (1970's only makes that number even more pathetic).
@danielwilliams173 Жыл бұрын
It does something if the victim thinks it does. This guy deserves justice, and it's not for us to say what form justice should take. We should just support him in whatever he wants to do and keep our mouths shut otherwise. People couldn't talk about these things back in the day, so he's probably been carrying this burden for his entire life. I hope he gets the justice and closure he's looking for and is finally able to find peace. I also think it takes enormous strength (more strength than I, and probably you, could ever have) for a man to come forward and talk openly about this. Given how I know men think about these things, I would imagine it's even harder for a man in this kind of situation than it is for a woman, which is already unfathomably difficult. If I were this guy's son or family member, I would so proud of him and I would make sure I told him every single day.
@yox465 Жыл бұрын
In Namath case, this is a case of going after the deepest pocket. With the exception of guns, it's the way our society works and has nothing to do with personal action. I remember when I was a kid and all the chicken hawks that latched on to the kids that looked like they'd make it in sport. The chicken hawks are in religion. They're in sports. They're in everything and they've always been. Fortunately, they're the one group that hasn't been normalized by the internet.

How did they track that this kid was part of the camp vs being somebody's son or nephew that got in based on connections. How do we know the abuser didn't present him in that way? @mhartan Жыл бұрын
This take is tired and ill informed. The nature of the NFL's passing game was entirely different than now. Due to rules changes and strategic changes, passers and receivers are protected and high efficiency is the expectation. You have to compare Namath to his peers not to today's players. Namath was a star then and deservedly so. The game was then based on lower completion percentages and longer completions. It came out the same. Check out the fact that Namath and Tom Brady have the same career yards per attempt, 7.4, which is a truer guage than completion percentages. As for his TD/Interception ratio, that suffered in Namath's later years. As for Unitas being injured, you don't know anything. Unitas missed nearly the entire season and his backup Earl Morrall went 13-1 in the regular season and was the league MVP. Unitas was brought in later in the Super Bowl as a last ditch attempt to win. And, BTW, the NFL/AFL merger was a consequence of Namath's Super Bowl win.

@@michaeldonnan6767 Tell that BS to the people who were repeatedly violated in the most heinous ways imaginable. Unless you’ve been through it yourself, you cannot possibly fathom the trauma. I’ve been through far less than these victims in the form of getting my a$$ whooped by my Dad with his leather belt & there’s zero confusion about my memories over that. People like you are the reason why so many sexual assault victims keep that sh#t buried inside out of fear of not being taken seriously or flat out dismissed.

He hasn't made any "mistake". People really need to understand the way tabloids work. Because of the Spanish visit, boom, they publish a pile of lies and faked photos to sell magazines. Frederik and Mary have one the happiest of royal marriages of their generation. I would say much better than Felipe's and Letizia's. Mary hasn't had plastic surgery, stopped wearing her wedding ring etc. Mary has worked hard to learn a notoriously difficult language, has always worked hard and has good relationships with everybody, etc. Don't fall for fake stories!

Sure enough everybody's heart goes out to that twelve year old boy who was victimized by a sick and twisted individual. But how come this man, the former victim, has made it all the way through life, has had by all appearances what everyone would agree is a highly successful life, has come up with what I'm sure he believes is a fantastic opportunity. Now, when he's preparing for retirement, now is when he's supposedly feeling the effects of what happened some fifty years ago. I don't know, but this sure sounds like a bit of a stretch. Seems to me this man took responsibility for his actions over all that time and now wants to what - give Joe Namath all his financial earnings because Mr. Namath was the one who was responsible for him and his decisions for the past fifty years. Huh?

@ford289cid7 Жыл бұрын
Just because Paterno knew doesn't mean Namath knew. Paterno actually _ran_ Penn State's program, nothing escaped his control. Joe was in his late twenties, was drinking heavily and possibly just hung around and spread good vibes while the others ran the show.

If he was there with the kid every day, and knew the kid was bunking with the coach,.. and didn't know, he would have to be very dumb. And btw,...who are these people that constantly show up to defend people for this crap ? How many wrong cases have been brought ??
