The image is also very reminiscent of a funeral or burial. Am I the only one having this association?

I always thought Bacon's imagery was less political and more personal. He had a terrifying and completely unnatural childhood filled with brutality.

"...drunk-tank pink." I have never been in a drunk-tank, although I have struggled to keep it between the ditches a time or two. So, are drunk-tanks actually painted in this Pepto-Bismol pink as a rule, or is this an arcane reference, known but to those persons with familiarity beyond mere Grumbacher/Winsor & Newton deluxe oils?

I now know that MoMA exhibits Francis bacon's work, I first heard about him in that web documentary:brush with violence, he truly was a distressing artist, and was quite good at it, wish I had more time examining and studying his art, that would be a achievement for me

Peppiatt stated: "I didn't dare go and knock." But why not? Why couldn't Peppiatt just go and knock on Giacometti's door and talk to him? I was looking at my most recent sculptures and it was obvious thatt hey were far superior to the sculptures of Giacometti which are so embarrassingly bad, and no one really likes them, but art critics have to pretend to becuase they are obliged to just as they pretend to like de Kooning because they are obliged to. I am still waiting for Peppiatt to knock on my door but I don't think he dare knock: but it is his loss, not mine.

You have to tread carefully when trying to intellectualize Bacon, he was no do-gooder and this painting - I promise you - is less "Guernica" and more Grand Guignol. He's out to shock, not comment, although commentary may be there, it's secondary. On his own admission this began as a bird lighting on a field then through a fortnight of hard drinking became what we see here. The three window blinds are taken from a picture of Hitler's Berghof (I've seen some say his bunker, but the bunker had no windows). The microphones are straight from a pic of Chamberlain announcing the declaration of war, and Chamberlain wore boutonniéres like the yellow flower. Chamberlain had been dead six years when Bacon began working on this painting, I just think Bacon had some pictures laying around, same is his popes. the terrifying cousin to this painting though I believe his popes scream off the canvas whereas this painting growls at you. Hitler, Chamberlain... six of one, a half-dozen of the other to Bacon. War is the butcher shop, they are the butchers.

These art critics and commentators are so dull. They talk shit, link to politics and other nonsense. Better enjoy art without help of middlemen.
