You could certainly do a short Sci Fi story with a concept like this. Imagine a story about the invention of a seemingly useless one-way portal to an endless dark void with nothing in it that later gains commercial traction as people discover that you can use it for disposal. It's seemingly infinite with zero environmental impact, out of sight out of mind. It becomes a common practice to have one in every city. Pollutants, toxic waste, and hazardous materials are tossed in without a care. Landfills and garbage islands are a thing of the past, and distressingly even some unscrupulous contractors are just dumping mountains of dug up soil and other construction waste into portals. And then 50-100 years later garbage and rubble start raining from the sky as it's discovered that those "portals to nowhere" were actually portals to the future.

And people go into these zones to find strange stuff at the risk of their own life, to sell and also advance humanity. Oh right, just remembered, it's called Roadside Picnic. Very interesting read.

One thing that's noticed is the incredible waste produced in throwing the garbage away. Ten pieces of small garbage go into the machine, and give you two bags. So, you can only remove five pieces of small garbage at a time, in these full sized garbage bags. And then, only six bags go into the bag dumpster, which takes several garbage rain cycles for the drone to remove and replace a dumpster that isn't even barely full of bags that aren't even barely full.

Is it anomalous in nature? Does it react to anything or behave differently than anything normally created in our world? Depending on what this "Trash" is comprised of, does that mean the possibility of taking advantage of what could potentially be an opportunity for infinite amounts of resources to utilize? I have many questions.
@firestorm53712 жыл бұрын
In reality an anomaly like this would be actually rather useful, nearly infinite resources.

The most realistic part of this game is how the very, _very_ important garbage collectors, who work all night every night, hardly get paid for their services.

As bad as the situation in game is- if you think of it there is a silver lining! They have hover tech so them having spacer level tech is not that hard to believe. As long as the garbage is not coming from other places on Earth this provides this society with essentially unlimited recycled resources to colonize the stars AND find better solution to other resource problems. Though like manly said it's clearly a statement on garbage and pollution, maybe my take is just an optimist viewpoint.

This developer sure loves their ducks.

What a depressing world. It's not nightmarish or evil, but it is still more or less doomed. You can't get rid of that much garbage in so little time, it's a losing battle for space. Eventually this whole planet is just going to be a dumpster.

I kinda wanna see this made into a full-fledged game, where you get to see the source of the garbage and possibly destroy it

Feels like a comment about how we're always being told to recycle and not litter, meanwhile big ol' corporations are throwing out tons and tons of trash without regard for where it ends up.

They should do what silent hill did and make it really foggy. It would hide the fact that you can't see things from a certain distance, plus I feel like it would fit in this filthy dystopian situation

Whoever made this clearly never met anyone in waste disposal. Garbage collectors get paid shockingly well.

It's not a story about real life. It's explaining the situation in the game.

I like games like these. They help me get some insight into what other jobs are like as well as making it an playable experience.

Is nobody gonna mention the number jumping up an extra time at 14:27 or am I going insane?

it'd be great if it was fleshed out in a way that you could build stuff outta trash too for upgrades or ways to make things easier. You could even have it where you could find alien tech too and make weapons or the such. Have traders asking for specific things, scavengers who try to take things from you.

Btw you could say that the man need garbage because he got like a machine to process it and replenish the boat you'll take
