I thought for sure the guy was going to get to the bottom of the meat pit and there wouldn't be a way to 'return' and we would realize this is like the 5millionth time he's done this whole song and dance. But it is implied that our expedition guy is a clone too, by Vos at the end scenario. So a lot of people on earth have already been cloned. It's a terrifying concept, that this meat planet lures people in to harvest it's flesh because hungry, and then it turns around and turns the planet and its people eating it, into another meat planet. And that is how it reproduces....

I love how the first guy and the last guy have 2 different ideas on what it means to be human. That's pretty interesting. In the movies about clones there are these few kinds of clone tropes. The most common one is the one with the mindset of the first guy and this type is often the antagonist that commits identity theft refusing the fact they aren't the original. Then there's the second type which has same believes as the last guy, believing in the concept of the person as a whole rather than the individuality of every clone or the original. This type is second most common clone trope and it's another antagonist who convinces other clones to form an army and start a rebellion against the original person. And finally, the third and the rarest is the type that's a "wholesome" version of the first guy. The clone believes in individuality but instead of stealing identity, decides to leave and go a seperate way, also trying to change their appearance to not be associated with the original. Therefore, technically turning into their own individual person, like a twin, and not a clone. Their origin doesn't matter, only the path they take does which reminds me of the very first Pokémon movie where Mewtwo in the end comes to the same conclusion.
@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588
@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 Жыл бұрын
@@Kyumifun The wholesome archetype reminds me of the endings of The Sixth Day and Living With Myself. In the latter, the clone and the original put aside their differences, accepted each other as their own separate individual, and presumably went on to have a polygamous relationship with their wife, who was okay with that. It was a fun show, and I wish it was revived for a second season.

I do want to argue that the first perspective, that the clone "is not me" does not require a belief in the soul. I, too believe a clone of me would not be me, yet I hold no spiritual or religious beliefs whatsoever. The other reason one can come to this conclusion is the belief that consciousness needs an origin point. In my _personal_ belief, that point would be the brain. A cloned brain is a new brain with a new consciousness. If I die, my consciousness doesn't take over the clone's body like a driver getting in a car. I'm dead. Completely dead. Irreversibly dead. The clone is a new person who just happens to behave and think and act identically to how I would have. To everyone else it's as if I'm still there, but to me, well. I have no perspective with which to view or perceive the situation. I'm dead. ANYWHO you could be completely right about how the devs intended the perspective to be understood, I just thought I'd throw my idea of personhood and individuality into the ring

The whole "Send the Clone Home" thing reminds me of the movie "Moon". There they have a single worker on a lunar base. Every five years they replace the current worker with another clone, and kill the previous one on the pretext of 'sending him home'. Additionally, the idea of harvesting from a massive creature is reminiscent of the Mystery Flesh Park creepypasta. It is also a bit reminicent of "Salt In Wounds", A 3rd party D&D setting where an entire city is based around harvesting a giant, regenerating kaiju monster. Both of them describe how the creature's useful for many uses, and how people get trapped and absorbed into it.

Many people seem to comment the fact that they send "regular humans" instead of clones to these recovery missions, but they seem to forget an important part of the plot... Remember what the guy trapped in the meat said? "dont tell my family what happened, or my clone"... which means clones have NO MEMORY of them being trapped in the meat planet... WHICH MEANS, the main character may be a clone already, but Ingesticorp makes him think he's an original... Heck, for all we know, he may have already been cloned hundreds of times.

While it's an interesting concept to go recover the DNA of missing crew members, as you were reading the intro, I couldn't help thinking, "Why not take DNA samples _as soon as they're hired (or right before they go on the mission),_ so you don't have to send someone else, just use what's on file?" I mean, sure, then the game wouldn't happen (or it'd happen differently), but, well...I always look for the most _practical_ option. Actually, if they can clone people, can't they clone sheep and cows...?

considering you're told to harvest at least 50 grams of muscle im guessing the cloning system isn't very efficient and needs a lot more DNA samples than just some hair, and it would be very suspicious to literally ask your workers to give up a chunk of their flesh...bnot to mention the cloning thing is done as a coverup when they die so even just asking for DNA samples at all might be suspicious which is why they only do it once they can't be saved
@BuzzMandrill
@BuzzMandrill Жыл бұрын
You're on the right track, but you need to think about it even further. If the company could just clone people so casually, then it makes no sense to hire more then one person. Pay someone to give you their tissue, clone as many employees (slaves) as you need. I agree with you that the premise of the game makes no sense. Other than that, pretty cool game.

Your brain fills in the gaps. Something that early 3D can do really well. It's detailed enough that you understand what it's supposed to be, but undetailed enough to that you do the rest yourself. And your own mind can create the worst horror, because you yourself know best what scares you. That also explains why there aren't many horror movies set in bright daylight. If it's dark and you only see glimpses of the monster, you start imagining it in a way that no prop department can match.

That doesn't make sense. 🤔 If labs on Earth can clone, and there's a food shortage on Earth, why not just clone animals? Even if say, there's no animals left, you can still clone humans as a source of food. Call it Protein-H. So what's the problem? Game sounds interesting but the premise for exploring the meat plant falls flat.

I also thought that the enterprise waiting for the miners to die before collecting DNA was a bit weird. I was thinking of what could be the reason of such course of action. Maybe they can’t do it beforehand because they’d have to report it and that would raise suspicion from the government or another authority? In that case they’d probably take the samples after because they could claim that the recovery expedition has another goal and they could take the samples without any type of record.

Weird, this game has the potential to be really creepy and terrifying and sad but for me it kinda misses the mark. Probably partially because of the PS1 style graphics

@@ChainikB that's the thing - for me it would've been much more horrific if the overall visual style of the game made me feel more connected to the people who were stranded. The game "Discover my Body" by Yames is like a perfect example in my mind of making that work
@Profile__1
@Profile__1 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think it's the lack of sound effects and real animation. It unfortunately lands itself in an awkward spot for me where the graphics aren't good enough to be scary visually, but they're also not BAD enough to let my imagination take over and for analog horror to register. Also, I typically hate horror fiction that is TOO ambiguous with its story and horror elements. After a certain point, it stops becoming an "unknowable, unseeable" horror and instead just feels like they had no idea what they wanted to go for.
@TracksWithDax
@TracksWithDax Жыл бұрын
@@Profile__1 I think that explains it! If they were viscerally detailed, then it could be scary (probably not). If it was really worked up in the lo-quality style, but also with immersibe graphics and animation (especially when the survivors are being eaten by the 'meat') then is could be really gross and scary/sad. But I agree. I would actually love to see the developer revisit the idea because it has potential

Sometimes I wish I could turn my brain off to enjoy stories like this, but so many things didn’t make sense to me. Are telling me this society has accomplished, intergalactic travel, neural scanning, cloning, and bodily modification, and yet can’t just send androids and or drones to mine instead of humans? And low building materials aren’t an excuse because you can’t tell me cloning is less costly than making machines especially when Earth is low on food resources. Clones would need nutrients to grow and even if Earth was low on building materials they could just mine asteroids which should be possible if they can fly to the edge of the galaxy to mine a meat planet.

The reason why they don't send clones to harvest meat is because clones have deformities. At 2:20 Guy jokes about being as blind as a clone, confirming that blindness is a relatively common side-effect of cloning--the families are happy to have their loved ones back, even if they are blind. He also mentions that it's better to extract bone than muscle. As a planet of meat, it's a lot quicker/easier to infect the muscle as opposed to absorbing and infecting the bone. The meat planet is a hive-mind entity, every part of it feels everything else, both pain and pleasure. John Stuart is a clone, but either has been chosen not to have deformities, or somehow didn't exhibit them. He is only 27; he will go back to Earth, reproduce, and spread the infection. The number of meat-people will grow over generations until finally they become the majority, and then the hive-mind will take over and they will choose to become another meat planet. But that's just my theory.
