I know this wasn't meant for that, but I would legit watch a show about our main character. Her doing her craft to various customers, the consequences, the scenarios with this exact atmosphere...nothing too flashy, or crazy, or even anything that escalates past the subtle nature of the magic as its shown, because it's really good.

This is what I understood from it: The young lady is naturally gifted and practices witchcraft from which she earns money. The guy brings her clients. The first client we meet wants to know about a future business deal. She touches him and has a vision of the deal going badly and of her client getting stabbed. She shares this vision with him exactly as she sees it and that is what impresses him so much (he was probably skeptical of her abilities, said he expected a “little old lady”). The psychic refuses the next client saying she is tired. In the morning, her helper asks her what the birds are saying alluding to more of her gifts. She says they simply want to go somewhere warmer. He also mentions putting the person she refused to see on some list (a blacklist possibly of ppl she refuses to work with) but the psychic insists it’s fine and she was just tired. We then meet another client, a young girl “Saf” who brings a lock of hair possibly from an unfaithful boyfriend as the helper says “it’s about loyalty” when Saf says she doesn’t want “him” hurt. The psychic hexes the disloyal person by putting his hair in a jar with other ingredients, sealing it and having the jar buried so it’ll take effect. The psychic has another guy helping her who says he has buried so many of these hex jars. The next client is an older man who wants to speak to his deceased wife. She seemingly acts as a medium to allow this conversation to happen. This causes the lights to go out while a woman appears in the room with the psychic. A senior person in this witchcraft business shows up to tell the psychic that they don’t consort with the dead because it’s not worth it. We realize that the woman who appeared behind the psychic (interrupting her attempt to reach the dead) was actually the psychic’s own sister “Bea” who is psychic is as well and was thus able to find her witchy sister. Bea shows up in the flesh, knocking on the door. The second helper and the psychic grab weapons before they answer the door (clearly no one visits them other than clients). Bea tells the psychic their Mom is concerned about her while the psychic spreads salt on the floor as though she is going to cast a spell on her own sister. The psychic says she could teach Bea (witchcraft) and that Bea would be good at it but it is clear that Bea does not agree with the witchcraft and business side of all of this although she too is gifted. It seems that her sister was also the client she refused to see in the beginning. The psychic reveals she was just joking with the salt and hugs her sister. It seems like she may reconcile with her estranged family but we then see the second helper going outside to bury something (probably another hex jar) while the birds fly overhead, signifying that things haven’t really changed yet. She is still practicing witchcraft. She is the gutterwitch.

I think the witchcraft is window dressing that allows for a profit, her gift is her psychic ability....the reason I came to this conclusion is that few moments with her sister, the salt circle & the way she laughed....then her sister asks her if it was playacting & she answered probably (paraphrasing here, don't quite recall word for word) I think the hex jars are smoke & mirrors too.....the medium/speaking to the dead part was very real and that's what triggered the other talented psychic to reprimand her.....in other words, stick with the frothy theatrical side, don't delve into the uncontrollable darkness. Jmo, loved reading yours ;)

Her sister is already dead. She came through when we was conjuring the man's wife. It's not worth it, per the head witch, because so many others come through too. The mom spoken about has already passed over too. It's interesting about the geese. I used to use the geese flying overhead like that on an overcast day as a lead in for hypnosis sessions with clients. As they came in, you would send up all that was weighing you down. Then as they fly directly overhead, you thank them for their help. As they fly away, they take all the negative things with them; your bad habits, tension, worries, regrets, etc. My clients found it very profound. So did I.

It is, though some of the Things she does are definitely black magick and therefore not "allowed" by our ethics. But to help the guy see his dead wife she would either have to be a really powerful witch (probably a bloodwitch with direct roots either in the woodbane or the burnhides clan) or a medium. I for myself can speak with dead people when I hold a seance and a Family Member or friend or whatever is present, I can even see the people I knew well before they died, but I could probably study til I've surpassed my greatgrandmas Age at death (she's 104 now, but she's fitter than many people in their 20s I know. She's gonna her Really old.) and still I'd never be able to make others see Dead people.

I really loved this film. It's so cool to see a witch featured with authenticity in a movie. She's probably an urban witch. Using basic stuff and practicing inside the city. Pretty cool. No fancy crystals or elaborated altar. It's what it's like besides Pinterest witchy aesthetic posts. It's simple, powerful, and the witch can use basic items to cast spells. One only need their spirit and focus to practice witchcraft. Items and tools are useful, and they're here to channel energy but you don't NEED super fancy stuff

@observationsfromthefencepo72073 жыл бұрын
I am glad I watched this twice as for me it made more sense. A young woman who practices witchcraft in the modern world makes a living selling her services. Instead of living in the woods, she lives with two roommates in low income housing. She has a broken washer outside her apartment. Her two roommates her get clients. I think she also has psychic powers as she can see the future (evidenced by the how she sees her client Jay get stabbed). She can set hexes and she can summoon the dead. She is part of a group as a fellow witch came to chastise her for messing with tbe dead. (A code of ethics for witches?) She has visions such as a roommate dying and seeing her sister before she is there. She also seems to have a connection with her sister who in my opinion has psychic powers she does not want to lose. The sad thing I saw is that even with all her powers the witch seems to be unhappy and miserable as if she is trapped in her gutterwitch lifestyle. Her two roommates and fellow witch also seem to be miserable. Flying geese can represent a changing of the season and hopefully there is a change on the horizon for the gutterwitch. That's my interpretation. The acting was great and the gutter environment had the right amount of squalor. This was enjoyable and a different take on witchcraft. Many Thanks to Harry Baker, the cast, and crew. Excellent work. Peace.

Clearly the sister came through when she was doing the summoning of the man's dead wife.. The sister is invisible to the guy with the gun. The reason the sister was freaking out about the salt is that's how you bind spirits, trap them, etc. Ed burying the jar is her keeping the spirit of the sister from coming around again. This is why the other Witch was cautioning her against messing with the dead; opening that door allows things you want in, but like any door while it's open, other things may force their way in as well. Overall a very good film about the perils of taking the left-handed path.

Really enjoyed this, Harry! Such a lot of incredible detail in a short time. There's a lot of wonderful talent here and I think it's great that people are asking for this to be a series. Nice work!

It took me several minutes after watching this before I knew exactly what I thought of it. Nice... SPOILERS! The atmosphere was so well done, the mystery and revelation were brilliantly balanced. This is what they mean when they say "Show, don't tell". Give just enough clues, just enough answers, then redirect. It all felt very believable, and not too dark, but definitely not light. A Witch who has bills to pay. I always dread the "This should be a full-length movie!" comments, but with this short, it feels justified. The writing, direction, acting, audio, editing, the whole production - fantastic! Kudos to all involved! :)

Confused people asking for the plot, I think the title is the plot. Just the daily life of her, reality can be scary too.
