Like so many horror stories, this fails in the end, because the nephew ran away before knowing whether or not his uncle had succeeded. He APPEARED to have succeeded, but in a typical story, the apparent success would be revealed to have been a monstrous and catastrophic failure. For all we know, though, the aunt and uncle lived happily ever after.
@hanster.gun.34382 жыл бұрын
@@christosvoskresye it wasn’t like the uncle did anything bad (except murdering his wife but he brought her back and wouldn’t have even thought of it if he wasn’t confident) so there’s really not much karmic justice
@christosvoskresye Жыл бұрын
@@hanster.gun.3438 Is this the first horror story you have ever heard? Or are you being sarcastic? All he did wrong was to murder his wife and dabble in the occult! That ALWAYS leads to a happy ending, eh?

@David Smith Any substance that is introduced into one's self carries risk. Pipe smoking does carry less lung issues as it isn't inhaled into the lungs but oral issues are elevated obviously depending usage. I don't smoke daily and have gone long stretches without a pipe. I do tend to have a pipe while listening to audio drama like Horrorbabble. That's my opinion and how I see it.

This brings to mind an episode of Fringe in which a man had been obsessed with a young woman (who did not seem to have known him), but she had died in an accident, and various of her organs and tissues had been transplanted into others. He hunted down and killed the recipients, harvesting her organs and reassembling her, and he succeeded in reanimating the corpse, but "what came back was not her," as he sadly discovered. This story only takes us up to the last commercial break.

Great narration as always, and Rosenquest's descriptive abilities are amazing. But I fail to understand the 'horror'. Rosenquest very clearly lays out the situation and feelings of the soul and vitality as pure and unadulterated consciousness, and the immortality is described as literally just coming back with mind and body intact without any issues. The ritual requires no blood, no sacrifice other than a bit of time, no vile acts. Yet the main character is utterly horrified. Further, the MC never explains that they think its an afront to god which could explain their apprehension. Just very strange what was seen as fearful back then.

Not sure about this being a horror story. I mean sure, the narrator found out about his uncle discovering new, upsetting fetishes, but he *did* read the man's diary, and apparently there was no terrible consequence for messing with the natural order of reality whatsoever beyond a huge candle budget and maybe explaining to the neighbours. It would've been a horror story if the narrator didn't know until the reunited pair started gaslighting him into believing he'd hallucinated the past few months, but...maybe that's a bit psychological for a '30s ghoul mag.
@johannageisel53902 жыл бұрын
Yes, the ending was a letdown. It thought that either she would return horribly changed and possibly devour her husband, or she would not return at all and the uncle would be driven to madness from the realization that he had killed his wife for nothing.
