Bill Paxton (Aliens, Predator 2) directed this gem and really had an eye for staging scenes. Like the rest of you, I still remember parts of this film vividly two decades later. What's really odd is that the movie is foreboding and dark but ends on an upbeat note as the son takes on his father's responsibilities.

I remember watching this movie as a kid. I fking loved it. It was one of these movie where it stuck in your head but you didnt know the title of the movie. So you search for it in hopes of finding it again, telling all your friends and everybody. (Was before internet)

The question that I had was: What if Dad Meiks was always under a demonic influence disguised as an angel of light? While the people he was after were certainly bad, the purpose of the demonic entity might have always been to exacerbate and continue the spiral of murderous negativity in the world, from which it fed upon (after all, Fenton's insanity was probably triggered by trauma, as he would not have become a serial killer if it wasn't for the twisted turn of events induced by the strange entity). I thought about it, but unfortunately the movie gives you enough clues about the higher purpose of Dad Meiks' rampage of justice. For example, blood never stained their clothes after the killings except when they murdered a normal person (an unfortunate and undesired event caused by Fenton's disbelief). So in that case, what was the lesson here regarding Fenton's skepticism? That disbelief, lack of faith, attachment to the laws and customs of men, the inability to connect with the divine are signs of... diabolical influence.

@@redubar I guess the confusing part for me was, did his visions come from God or maybe, an evil source? He's obviously protected, so I'm assuming God. -Why did God take so long to put the serial killer brother on the list? -Having someone kill for you feels evil to me. Would God really do that? -Why sneak around and take the, "demons" somewhere else to be destroyed? He's protected. Cameras and eye witnesses don't work on him? -How powerful is this protection? What if the president ended up on his list? Or does he have others who do the same in their own jurisdiction? - I'm also assuming if he has children of his own, he'd kill them, if told to by his higher power. -Would his older son still have become a serial killer, if his father didn't do what he did infront of him? I still love this movie. It's actually one of my favorites in it's genre.

terrible review...u left out the entire part where his father knows fenton is a demon....u did not review this film, u just did a scene by scene account of the movie...u are NOT EXPLAINING THE REASONS BEHIND ALL OF THIS and the religious context.....i saw the movie a bunch of times...there's no point to this entire review.... sorry man
