Thank you to everyone who watched this during, or after the premiere. I really like this premiere feature and will definitely do it more with other videos. I hope you enjoyed HOTR as a whole throughout this month. This was the first time I've done a mini-series like this, so I apologise if it's not perfect. I'm certainly planning on doing more audio stories after this and possibly, for next Halloween. Another thanks to all the voice actors who took part in these videos. They wouldn't work as well as they did, if it weren't for your performances. I'll be making an update video soon discussing what is to come for the rest of this year and 2019 (e.g. future IFRS episodes). Until then, thank you for watching and Happy Halloween!

Here is what I imagine to be, the Story of Boulder. Once, many Centuries ago, in the Century of 1500 BC ( BCE ), during the Ancient Sudrian times on Sodor. Their was this Sudrian Tribesmen who was a bit of a Nut Case in his tribe. He loves rocks, a little to much for his own good. He loves rocks so much, he wanted to make a way he could become one, be one with the Stones. He decided to take a Giant Boulder, on top of one of the Mountains and craft it into a stone he can become. He found a viable Boulder, and he started to chisel away until the Boulder was perfectly Round. After his craft was complete, he started doing rituals so that he can become the Boulder he rounded. The years past, and the rituals went on. This crazy man did manage to have Children, so he can pass down his knowledge of stones, however, he Kept the rituals to himself. He kept on doing them until the day he Died. After he died, his spirit came to possess the Boulder he had done those rituals around so many times. After the Man Became Boulder, he used his Ghostly magic to Ward off all other Sudrian Tribes from the area, and finally the Man ( Now Boulder) was at peace. Over 1000 Years Passed, and nothing changed in that time for Boulder, that was, Until the Plate Way was built. The people came to mine the Copper out of the mountains and that didn’t settle to well with Boulder for he felt that His Perch deserved to remain Untouched and left alone. He started to use his Ghosty magic to scare the miners away, and it did, for a Short Time. The Plate way was ripped up and Boulder felt that he accomplished his goal, and fell back to sleep, but that nap was short lived for soon after the Plate Way was ripped up, The Skarloey Railway was built. Seeing the new intruders ( Skarloey & Rheneas) made Boulder extremely furious. He did his Ghosty magic more, but that didn’t stop the Mining. Boulder realized that it was going to take a lot more then Ghost tricks to get the miners to Scram, so Boulder went on the Offensive, and destroyed the workmen’s Hut. Boulder was pleased that the Mines were closed after this. Out of view from Everyone, he climbed up the Mountain and went back up to his Perch, and went back to sleep. Then the Events of this Video happened. Boulder saw that more people came and their was a Whole Load of New engines, and that made Boulder more angry than Ever. When the rain came, Rusty came to inspect, then Rusty looked up, he thought he saw a Face on Boulder. Boulder was looking down at Rusty, disgusted at his presence. Then Boulder threw a rock down at Rusty as a way to tell him “Go away, I want to Be Alone”, so Rusty Left. Later, while Thumper was drilling, Boulder finally decided that Enough was Enough and he was going to make the Engines and all the People leave for Good. He rolled down the mountain and Terrorized the Railway and the Engines. He crashed into the engine shed and used his magic to cause a blaze. When Boulder heard the Thin Controller say “We should have left this part of the island alone”, Boulder was finally happy. But, then Boulder was moved to the Hill, and now he Sighs for his Perch that he used to stand on Proud, Silent and Alone.

“There it lay, like a oppressive sentinel over all of us, smooth and shaped, it couldn’t of been natural, the stone could only of been melded by human hands. There was an air of uneasiness around the site, we felt something looking upon our backs as we worked, we all did even if we didn’t admit it and kept brushing it off. But it could be felt, on breaks we nary talked, something was watching us and we all knew where it came from. I looked up at the Boulder, maybe it was just the tension getting to me, but I swore, I saw a face in that stone. Every small shift of dirt from above us felt like a threat, a warning of what’s to come if we didn’t stop and leave. Then, it finally happened, all those threats culminating. It was only thanks to divine providence that no was was killed. The Master Controller was right, there’s something not right with that place.”

This is a good story, but I think it would have made the boulder more mysterious and frightening if you added the scene with Rusty driving backwards away from Boulder and stopped at a junction where the driver would say “We’ll stop here until the Boulder passes by” and Rusty would think he would be save, but then start getting worried again when he doesn’t see it pass by, and after they mysteriously hear and see Boulder behind them, Rusty would be terrified that not only was he being chased again, but also that it unnaturally appeared behind them and chases them, and it would have been nice to hear the line “Oh no, it’s heading right for us” down at the transfer yard where it heads to Sir Handle and Duncan
@narrowgauge97175 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. The main reason I didn't include that scene was because It never really made sense to me. I understand there's a lot of mystery to the boulder, but the fact that it magically appeared behind Rusty always felt weird.
@blueranger71075 жыл бұрын
Yeah, because without that scene, how do you explain that Rusty was going from backwards to forward, but if you wanted to edit or rewrite/reupload this story, would you include that scene now that you know that?

You know...? Since this is set in 1972 and the episode you adapted it from was made in 1998, I have a possible theory, that maybe sometime before season 5 made an air, Britt Alcroft with some of her production staff perhaps learnt of the events from only Skarloey & Rusty, and promised not to reveal too much if the episode ever aired, perhaps finding the story as horrifying and worth altering to avoid frightening the audience too much, regardless of age. Think that's possible anyone...?

It is only really now that I came to watch this in its entirety, and I was not dissapointed. I do not usually like to change existing stories as others do because 1: It diminshes the purity of the original work, and 2: It puts a restraint on my sense of creativity. However this is one time it works because the original was a story of thin ends, and the additions and adjustments actually added more weight to the overall story rather than deter from them; they made sense considering the ideas and placements established with the concerned characters in prior sources. I did not really think the Ward Fell mines would be the ideal location on the Sodor map to place the boulder; I was going with the idea of setting it up at Ulfstead just off Thomas's branch line with a special narrow-gauge line going up into the mountain quarry, thus also justifying Thomas and Percy's presence as per the episode. The TV series does seem to imply the latter in a way but not directly. Still this alternate take really makes a lot of sense in my mind, and the presentation pays off whilst keeping the key moments from the original episode intact. As such I can safely say this would be my choice of a definite take of "Rusty and the Boulder" without a doubt. Regards, Samuel Farris.
