The man who actually performed all the stunts you see here; the trick riding and Roman riding was a man by the name of Tad Griffith! He was unbelievable! I grew up in the rodeo business and I can remember him back in the 80’s! He had a dress act in rodeo, kind of like your halftime show at a football game! They would play a Marty Robbins gunfighter ballad and the spotlight would shine on Tad riding into the arena, acting out the scenes in the song, stage props, stunts and all! It was a major production on the road and I’ve never seen anything like it since!

Tad was *SO* dope. :) And you know what else?! Just the details he put into attempting to "match" Antonio's style with his reactions, smiles, intensity, etc. were PERFECT. That's something that some stunt guys might not care about or have the ability (or hours) to do. This kind of film is what happens when EVERYONE is a professional, everyone is dedicated, and no one is acting like a narcissistic, underqualified diva. Something that's less likely to happen today. :/

I don’t know if it was Antonio Banderas, or a stunt man during this whole chase scene, but all those moves he did, whether it was flipping backwards on the horse, standing up on two horses at once, etc., that takes an incredible amount of strength and balance. Kudos.

I've heard this rumor for years, but I don't think it's true. There are lots of phenomenal stunts in this movie, including the one you mentioned. Some of the stunts ARE him but stunt riders train for years, sometimes decades, and Antonio Banderas simply doesn't have the training and practice to accomplish most of the things here. It doesn't take away anything from his skill to know that they used stunt performers for a lot of it.

The stunt work in this film was as legendary as the masked muchacho himself. :) And the entire cast and crew were absolutely phenomenal. Too bad they do not make films like this anymore. Heaven knows, if a super wealthy director wanted to do so, I definitely have some AAA-grade material. Yes, it's true (although it's not a Zorro film). 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨

Another reason this scene is so brilliantly done in addition to there being no dialogue, is the fact that the audience in the film at this point recognizes the last guy to get knocked out. He is a nameless recurring character face, yet there is enough build up at this point in the film that that once he is down, everyone starts cheering. Unlike, some of the muscle characters in the early Indiana Jones films, who show up for one scene , fight , and then go down.

Nobody ever talks about his hat, lmao. He's wearing it until he falls down, during which it completely falls from his back. He hears the patrolmen coming and makes for the bushes, but never picks up his hat, which is why it is missing during the chase. Did he not have time to take it with him, did he just not care, or is it a movie mistake? I guess we can only wonder, haha.
