guys when a horse chokes. its only blocking their aesophagus (i have no idea how to spell that) so they can still breath. the will not asphixiate thats why vets say wait 10 mins

Maybe the vet was on its way and they were taping him to help others know what this is..?? Anyway this is what my 5yr old boy was doing. I gave him a small chunk of hay that was stuck together and hes swallowed a large portion of it too quick. He rolled over once, then got down on his front legs and stretched. After about 30mins I called the vet but 50mins on and it cleared up on its own so I was lucky to call off the vet in time. I kept an eye on him though and when I told the vet that it was a false alarm they didnt say anything about them having to come out regardless. Once he showed signs of being normal again he was pretty much fine from then on. Some helpful tips I read: When a horse is choking like this they can still breath its not like in humans. To dislodge it they put a narrow hose up their nose and blow out the obstruction. Sometimes they have to sedate the horse to relax the muscles so it can pass through. If it hasnt yet passed naturally a choking horse can be at risk of developing aspiration pneumonia, as it is so easy to accidentally inhale a bit of food or icky gooey saliva during the time when the horse cannot swallow.

Horses cannot vomit unless their stomach has ruptured. The vet had to flush out this horse with water to remove the choke (too much hay in throat from eating too fast).

So horses almost can't physically vomit because of the cut off valve muscle but when they do it's almost always because the stomach has ruptured and unfortunately they die...

I film sessions of my horse having seizures. I feel so bad doing it but I cannot help my horse at that time (apart from ensure he is in safe surroundings) and video footage is hugely helpful for the vet.

This is a life-threatening condition called "choke,"where a horse gets food stuck in their esophagus. The food can then swell to the point that it blocks their airway. Since a horse can't vomit, they can't clear their esophagus, they just cough up whatever they can.
