Horse Choking

I just had this happen to my horse. July 3. Called 7 vets, none available. I just 50cc of olive oil in mouth. Lifted up head by halter, then massaged the blockage as I could feel it. 30 minutes later it was all gone. Learned something that day

It depends. The horse has probably something stuck in the throat, so it isn’t far down.

Probably not because horses can’t puke. Actually it’s physically impossible for horses to puke. But if a horse does puke or if stuff coming out of its mouth, it is probably about to die.

There’s not much you do initially. When we called our clients horse in to our vet they said to wait 10 minutes, give sedative (we had it on hand, otherwise they would have come immediately), and call them back and let them know if he was still choking. We rubbed his neck the whole time after sending his owner a video and letting her know the vet was on route. Our vet is at least 40 minutes from the time we call her to her arriving.

Nathaly Barajas no horses cant throw up this is what happens when you're pellets have beet pulp in them and they soak up all the water in there throat and they call it choke but they can breath it can be very serious it can lead to a deadly form of ammonia and dehydration because they cant drink
