That isn't just a doggie. It is a very special doggie, it is a Lurcher. It will catch you rabbits, hares, squirrels, pigeons, sometimes a duck. Very important for your survival diet. And to have two Lurchers is such a treat. I trained two Lurchers to hunt and retrieve for the guns, hard work, but I did it.

She's got a couple of good horses there, the coloured particularly. Good set of harness on that wagon horse too, notice she puts the hames on separately otherwise the collar is too heavy to lift, but no blinkers on the bridles! Them wheels are too small on that wagon I'd get some artillery wheels on there, horse would be pulling from higher up then as splinter bar would come up a fair bit in height then. Good on her, bloody hard on yer own.

@@charlierumoldboi3939 I seriously considered it, spent a year or two living in a caravan, came to the conclusion a semi nomadic life style would work better for some. Winter's, it's not the cold it's the damp in the UK, trying to keep things dry with dogs and kids was difficult, washed clothes would take days to dry, thank god for a wood burner which I fitted in the caravan, but even then it was hard, sheltered communual space needed, for people to gather and so children not constantly playing in mud.

My great grands were travelers in England/Ireland. They came to the US and, more or less, settled but for continuing to work for Bostocks Circus. I can see that working with animals and the traveling made that employment an obvious choice. I wonder how many travelers exist from generations of the same?

@Tiffany Patton I agree. I think if you've got a small piece of land with a twin horse stables on it & a wooden portaloo & somewhere to store a flat bed trailer, also somewhere to keep going back to for a few nights each week in-between travelling around a bit, this life can actually be quite slow pace & rewarding. And you live a bill free lifestyle & learn a lot about yourself. We're actually thinking about getting two bowtop wagons, a small plot of land, two Percheron horses & living life exactly like this. Fed up of living in houses with loads of bills all the time, it's not living but feels like existing & relying on things too much. We want to live a low budget eco friendly lifestyle where we have to enjoy simple things in life. You've got to want to do it.

Underneath boosts his confidence, makes him feel more secure when traffic passes, eventually he will walk alongside the waggon when hes good & ready. Its a way of training but without all the usual methods of command with reward . Shes not taking any chances of him getting hurt or hit by a vehicle .Most do but (not all vehicles slow down or give a wide berth as they pass. hes learning & until he does hes tied up so he dont run into oncoming traffic. Most dogs rather be out & about & on the go than cooped up inside.

It's a tough life, especially if she is on her own. But - once 'living free' i should imagine you would never want to give it up. I've only experienced the feeling as a mum going camping in a camper with my kids...lovely for a while to just park on the beach where allowed & let the kids loose, but then I was on holiday so I could enjoy the 'free as a bird' feeling without having to earn money while doing that. However you soon start to miss 'home comforts', especially bathrooms & running water ! Then there's the damp in UK - that can get to your bones....those mudddy horses are showing hard hard it is to deal with ! God luck to this young woman tho !

It looks attached with a harness, it's probably the safest place for it to walk as it likely runs out in the road / can't be trusted in traffic. I did wonder why it wasn't sitting on the cart at the back, then realized exercise is better for it, dogs love to walk for miles!

Well, classified as horse drawn vehicle not surprisingly. They are of course a very old way of moving around here and there are a few bridleways that they can use but cars cannot (a much disputed area).

What's a curb chain? I don't know what that is, but I do know what a bitless bridle is. Are you talk'n traditional, or new age? Cuz the new age ones can hurt more than the traditional ones, I've heard. The new age ones I think hurt the horses nose and rubs a lot causing bold spots/rashes.

England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland literally spent centuries trying to expel and deport them, yet still some remain. The general reputation of Travellers among the British population has always been extremely poor. So bad, in fact, that in the latter-half of the 18th Century, it was a serious criminal offence for an Englishman or woman to have converse with a Traveller; to the extent of an Assize record of a 14-year old girl being executed for doing so. Jane Austen, in Emma, even has them appear in a brief scene that makes little sense if you aren't aware of this dangerous legal existence.

Many choose this lifestyle in the US using RVs. Sadly RVs quit working and they end up living on the side of the road homeless. They should make it possible for people to ride the US in horses. Some people just don't like the sedentary life

I thinks its a lot more cost effective to get your RV or camper fixed than it is to keep horses. But yea America isnt very easy to traverse without a car of some sort, which should change.
@CHLOCHLOLP

@Tiffany Patton if you cant drive a car you probably cant ride a horse in public traffic. i dont think having service animals is a bad idea, that just wasnt related to my point. Im talking about using them for general transportation, which should be more acessible to disabled people, but i feel like most people arent comfortable riding horses in this period in time, let alone someone with a physical disability. I think that specific transport and publics transport needs to accommodate them better and be more accessible, in the form of busses, because its a lot easier and cheaper to transport many disabled or special needs people on a bus than it is on a horse and buggy. personally if i were physically disabled id rather have a special bus than ride a horse to wherever im trying to get lol, not that i dont like them, but that seems extremely inconvenient for most people, especially if you live in the suburbs or city.

You can still use horse carriages on public roads in the US (the Amish use them all the time), the only legal requirements are that you must have a slow-moving-vehicle sign (an orange triangle) on the back of the carriage and the carriage must fit in one lane.

@@punchedboredorcountersunk3248 No offence, but it took me a while to work out that "servial" (as you spelt it) was meant to be survival and not servile, as I was interpreting it. Didn't know what you meant at first. If you live in the UK I don't think that is a way to remain free in a totalitarian state. On our current trajectory the worst case scenatio won't alllow for for bands of homless itinerant travellers in a small - ish nation covered with CCTV & ANPR cameras. Plus, "home owners" have always been at least mistrustful of travellers. Travellers are easily kettled and funnelled to wherever the stasi want them. Such as repurposed military bases with razor wire facing inwards. I think more people are going to try this life over the next ten years, and some might find a way to make it work in their favor (in Scotland and Wales - maybe). But I think the powers that be will come down on it hard if thousands of people did start living in vans, buses, trucks and caravans again. If you know or remember what happened to the "Peace Convoy" under Thatcher?
