@@AndreaDingbatt feet issues really do cause problems. I made my boy barefoot and correcting the damage done by dumb ferriers took years. His arthritis is gone, his lameness gone, even his back is so much better. I really hope they get someone to restore the health of his hooves.

Horses won't mentally process in complex ways like homo sapiens. They have sensory processing. But the horse may likely either enjoy the feeling or feel a strange sensation and by instinct or not, just walk away for a bit. They're not going to be thinking "oh this is really going to help me on the final furlong on my next stretch run." 😂😂

It’s amazing how the horse learns that it does feel good. We used to have a veterinary that did chiro adjustments on our horses and after the first couple of times they totally understood what was happening and would actually get in position for the vet without any direction from us at all. My old gelding, god rest his soul, could actually be turned out loose in the driveway with no halter and he would go right up to her truck tailgate and stand next to it for his back and hips. Horses know when it feels good.

It's amazing how gentle horses can be... He's obviously not feeling good and is in some good pain, he could just demolish u so easily but he just let's you do your thing

Standardbreds typically have long careers and race with their toplines inverted by over-check reins, bracing against the bit. This guy’s been in pain for most of his life. You really got your cardio workout helping this guy, and it was so interesting to watch him relaxing more and more in response to your (to him) strange requests as you went along. That’s got to be one of the longest “lick and chews” I’ve ever seen at the end. I really appreciate your explanations of the relationships between bone, ligaments, and muscles as you go along. Also, your explanation about what a horse’s at-rest stance should look like and what it tells you about where the horse hurts. In a world divided by hatred and fear, you provide a bright spot of caring and hope. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

Verbal = only from human side, but communication goes both ways. That said, new research has just found that when elephants rumble, they are addressing eachother. They seem to be calling eachother by names, the way humans do. Was published on the 10th, in Nature. First author Pardo. U of Colorado, I think it said.

@@brittlemons1 Thank you. If I understand it correctly, horses don’t cry when they hurt, they just get tense and maybe blink or twitch, and anything that relaxes them is relief from pain.

@@carolr5925 If a horse is injured or in pain or discomfort they show it with ears pinned when we touch that area, snip at us, make a loud almost screech like noise or try to warn us with their hoofs. Horses cry out when getting the attention of other horses, hear their favorite person, when food/hay is being distributed or they make a sharp noise when pissed off or injured/in discomfort

I volunteer for a equine therapy group, and I am practicing your method on our horses that are donated to us for helping people with life struggles. Most of my patients had a stellar career and are at the twilight of their careers, everyone of them have issues that I've been trying to ease their suffering. A lot seem to have right hind leg/hip, left front leg and neck pain. Thank you for helping me help them, to help people who are less fortunate in life.

@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen I think this Jersey horse had a hock problem(which is common with Standardbred horses) on his left hind which would throw him off diagonally upfront plus he'd put more weight on the right hind so you might want to look into angles of the feet Etc..... they will wear their feet peculiarly due to the pain they are feeling elsewhere..... and it may have all started with the hock I learned that from working with a cold laser

I love seeing how work Dr. Doug, even as you are showing us how the pieces fit together in your diagnosis rather rapidly, you are allowing Jersey to set the pace. I will always love this channel. My hip popped out of empathy while I watched this. Also accidently experienced some unintentional asmr, which hasn't happened since my mom used to trace her finger on my face to make me sleep as a kid. This man has real MEDICINE in his soul. Thank you for helping him 💙 I work with and own many standardbreds , I feel like they hold so much more stress or tension in there pole and necks and rear end like hips and stifles, then other breeds I've been around or owned , have you ever noticed that ? I need to work on more different breeds to give you an answer. Generally almost every horse has much stress and tension behind or at their poll. Although the poll area is relatively small compared to some of the horse’s other muscles, it is key to his freedom and ease of movement. Thanks for sharing Kristi.

What I've noticed with the Standardbred breed is they breed them with longer backs ( so they don't hit) which is more conducive to back trouble their vertebrae are out of alignment Etc it's like a set of Christmas tree lights when one light's out the rest of them don't work....

@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen I've got a filly that is 21 years old this year that had a wreck going over a pipe fence landed on her head as a yearling and her heads been on Crooked ever since and twice now she has had like an epileptic fit when she hit something on her head! Either I'm not strong enough or I haven't got the right action to get it back in in alignment..... when this fit happened the first time I thought she'd hit her head on a tree limb this last time was about a week ago and it was total mud when I was feeding her I think she hit her head on the ring on the feed tub and she did the same thing and she fell in the mud and I thought she was going to go through the fence but when she got up this time she took off running like a bat out of hell screaming her head off I guess it scared her but I couldn't find anything wrong but our main was flipped over on the proper right side this time but her heads still on crooked and now it's flipped over on the left side.... she is sixteen two hands and weighs about 1,100 pounds so it's not exactly safe when she does this....

I've worked with standardbred's & thoroughbreds and I feel the Standardbred Horseman are much better and more knowledgeable than the thoroughbred people it's almost like they don't "ever" look at their feet.... they know nothing about their backs and they breed them with white feet, white legs, white eyes.... three things that will not possibly make them a good racing animal the only thing bad with the standardbreds is they have such long backs so you've got to be a chiropractor to keep them in line and Train BUT at least they do train them they don't just take them one time around the racetrack and put them back in the stall.....

I have watched a fair number of your video’s, and I have to say, this is one of the most challenging video’s where you worked, extremely hard with this horse. I am a massage therapist (for people and some dogs). And I love you working with horses. I also watch your body mechanic’s and thinking this is a workout for you. I like how you used your head for more contact (and your energy work) with the horse! Excellent job! You can tell by the girl that spoke, not sure she is the owner or volunteer but both she and I know you made a difference to this horse! Good Bless!
